Post by: Van Cruncheon on April 15, 2009, 11:53:35 PM
it is like a sassy, cruel 8-color attractive Jewish woman squirting 3d dungeon crawling yidd-coozle in my gaming mouth and anus

I'd be playing this right now if stores would carry the damn thing. I've been reading it's old school balls hard. Just the way I like it.  :punch

Totally forgot about this game, I need to get this... I'm so used to being mollycoddled by the DS DQ remakes that I'm not sure if I'm ready for an asskicking tho.

I'm going to have to give this game a fail.  The UI is just too bad.  Is there really no way to change equipment unless you are inside of the dungeon?  I have tried every button in the item store and town and inn to no avail.  What makes this even worse is that weapons don't have stats aside from the armor class modifier, so you have no idea whether the weapon you are buying will do more damage than the one you currently have equipped (aside from the price of the new weapon and an enigmatic class-by-class indicator that doesn't appear to make consistent sense).

There are other bad UI quirks.  Why the reliance on the LR buttons to switch members?  No big deal, but it's not a very good idea and it isn't very intuitive.  Why is the item menu a crude scrolldown menu, like a list of commands, rather than something that makes efficient use of screen real estate?  Why does the map blow compared to EO?

I love the art and the engine and the colors, but this is a rather questionably designed game, and not in the EO oldskool sense.  I'd not pay for this one if I were you.

EDIT:  Newly confirmed terrible design decisions:

-Enemy levels scale to yours, so grinding doesn't do much good.
-Possibly even worse, some prices scale as well.

I have a feeling it might just be during the first few floors, just so it isn't overwhelmingly difficult at the very beginning.  It still kills feelings of progress because grinding is slooooooooooooow.  It took about 1.5-2 hours to get all my duders to level 3.

wow there's level scaling, fuck this game

and yes buying equipment is terribly annoying when you don't know how effective it will be, what's also worse is that some equipment might fit your character but might remove the character's spellcasting abilities, for example, and there is seemingly no way to guess what will happen, you're doomed to a lot of trial-and-error

honestly if you want that old Wizardry feeling you're better off getting the fan translated version of the Japanese Super Famicom port of Wizardry 1-2-3

I kinda feel bad for mentioning this, because I really get the feeling it might just be on the first floor.  It's definitely there though--after gaining a level or two, stronger (and a few new) monsters appear right at the beginning of the dungeon, and the "old" monsters hit a lot more often and do a lot more damage, even if you get better armor.

Wow, they gave me a mage with 1 HP. I'm liking the descriptions of things and the game's weird sense of humor. Music is pretty good so far and is pretty rockin on the character creation screen.

I love the art style, but I've never been into wizardry style dungeon crawlers.   Everything I've read makes this game sound like getting your dick gnawed off by a rabid badger with slightly dull teeth.

it lets devs cop out of balancing their game area by area
