Sweet. Have it in-hand. Instruction booklet hints at a lot of cool stuff. It looks like it's close to Saint's Row 2- You do a variety if mini-missions to unlock story missions. There are also "gangs". Multiplay looks AWESOME. There's a mode wheere one team trys to knock downa huge building and the otehr team tries to keep it together. Some local multi modes look cool, too. Whole package looks awesome.
Rveiews are starting to post and they're universally positive

It is very close to Saint's Row-- the Ultor Corporation is even present in both games! In fact when you finish the third DLC #2 mission in SR2,:lolspoiler (click to show/hide)your character even tells the Ultor Exec "You can go to MARS for all I care!"[close]
I know Volition does both games, but is it the same team on both titles? Going by the demo, RFG pretty much tops SR2 in my book. Tighter control, better game play, and more-detailed visuals. It's going to top SR2 and be the best sandbox "GTA" game yet, IMO. I am completely pumped up to get this tuesday.
Also: Character and weapon UPGRADES
Tribes multiplayer...what.
If this is true I'll rent this game from the superior gamerang service.
I remember Red Faction when it was a FPS and a great one at that :/.
Tell me more about the collectibles. Are they on your map/radar at all or do you have no help finding them? How is the in-game stat tracking?

I haven't checked the in-game stats yet, bit the Multiplayer stats are really comprehensive.
Collectibles come in a few forms: Propaganda billboards to be knocked down (250), big blocks of black ore to be mined (300), radio tags that tell the past of ULTOR (35) (And unlock something? I only found one, but it told me that if I found 2 more it'd unlock the location of something) and supply crates to be BLOWED UP (250).
They're not on the radar (You might be able to get an upgrade for this), but in a lot of case sthey're highly visible. Sometimes they're hidden in a valley or something. It'll take some work to get them all.

Thank you, sir. I can't wait to pick this one up tomorrow.

360 version here. What are the differences?
I played the demo, and it's pretty, but there wasn't a lot of destruction, and no geomod: am I doing it wrong?

Picked up the 360 version today, got rid of Sacred 2 among other games, but RFG is so much more satisfying so whatever. The clerk also gave me the pre-order bonus, a 125-page handbook with artwork, character designs, weapon info, a preview of the strategy guide, and a comic. Nice, but nothing worth pursuing if you miss out on it.
The game is similar to Saint's Row in that you've got various points of interest marked on the map, and along the way, you'll also run into civilians/fellow guerillas who need your help taking out EDF soldiers. You get "rep" by helping out in these fights and destroying EDF territory, which then enables you to be able to do missions, much like doing activities in Saint's Row 2 does. It's much more serious in tone than SR2 though; no kookiness to be found and nothing too crazy; you're just taking out buildings and structures, but it's all done so damn well. Haven't tried Wrecking Crew or multiplayer yet.I played the demo, and it's pretty, but there wasn't a lot of destruction, and no geomod: am I doing it wrong?
You can't do anything to the ground or tunnel through rocks, but you can take out any buildings or other structures. I don't know if guns will work (at least not the ones you start with), but your trusty hammer and charges will do the trick. You can also drive vehicles into buildings and as GilloD says, in the demo once you get the walker, you can literally just walk through everything and destroy anything in your path!

Very. Did you miss the point where they give you a giant robot and let you smash buildings?
Anyone up for MP later? I got STOMPED by 3 dudes running as a team yesterday. I'd love to be on the other end of that equation
ps3 or 360 version
i've seen a little screen tearing in my 360 version (definitely less than saints row 2), but no aliasing issues
Do the missions have a time limit as in the demo?
Are there a number of unique MP modes, and are people playing them?
Volition put a lot of effort into bringing the core Saints Row 2 experience into the online MP, but whenever I go online it's nothing but free-for-all deathmatch. :-/
does anyone have this on PS3?
i'd like to try a multiplayer match out before we record the show tonight
I'm starting to tire a bit of the formula. Destruction is fun enough, but the actual combat is both infuriating and dull, and the EDF is just a Shai-Gen clone through and through. I'm having the most fun just driving a mined vehicle through a building and blowing it up, but that's only fun for so long. The nano rifle makes long distance deconstruction possible, so that's a plus. Another plus is that the world they have created feels plausible, in all its Mars craziness.
When do I get the next walker? I just cleared Dust, and I'm roaming around Oasis right now.
While I love this game, and I mean love, I suck at it so bad.
My worthless, weak thumbs are completely incapable of aiming with any sort of accuracy or consistency. It drives me nuts. I get owned left and right by dudes I should have killed, but didn't because these worthless sausages can't push a stick in any sort of useful fashion.
after i did one timed building destruction i said to myself "well, that's enough of that."
do you have to do any more, or are they all optional
installing this game does shit for the long loading times you will deal with when retrying over and over
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH it feels so good to do a transporter within 5 tenths of a second.
Pro Goal: 2:20:00
My time: 2:19:39
i've beaten the game, got every collectable, etc. i just need 5 more guerilla missions. but they are convoy/radio missions. theres no set way to get those to spawn. i could be looking at hours of just sitting around.
i will try online since it is a game with developers day tonight.
there are some maps posted on x360a, they might be removed though by now
there is also a great radio tag list on gamefaqs. some guy posted a bunch of pics.

Just liberated Dust. This game is all kinds of awesome. Best mission so far was the one where you break into the EDF base, jack the walker, destroy everything in sight, get on truck and fend off ATVs. So cool.
Anarchy - gay
Team Anarchy - awesome
Capture the Flag - shit
You cant even reset the flag when you walk over it. How fucking STUPID is that.
Yep. Team Anarchy didn't have my tearing my dick off after 3 minutes so it is the best mode.
Sorry I have already decided. Team Anarchy or bust. Btw, if you want to boost the gay ass map achievement and the explode a flyer let me know. I'm not interested in playing up to 100k XP, etc. I will probably play up to 10k, since I already have 1.4k after just 11 matches.
i don't like multiplayer gaming period. and i hate multiplayer achievements.
Bringing down that huge bridge between Dust and the Bandlands gave me a boner. Seriously.
Well I'm just gonna play up to 10,000 then send it back. Hopefully I can find a boosting party. There is a method to get upwards to 400 XP per match.

I'm selling my copy. Uh, 40$ free shipping? PM me.

It's $40 at newegg. Try going lower.
srsly has anyone beat the Dust demo mission with 9 rockets under pro time. i'm about to break my own wall
I've not got there yet. The one I'm having trouble with now is the one in Carson's northwest corner. Not the construction mech, but the bunker destruction with only the remote charges and hammer with a 00:20 Pro time limit. I've got it down to 24-26 seconds, but that just means I'm missing the key of the puzzle.
Rented this last night and played for about an hour. Can you only throw 2 charges at a time?

They are pretty much all on YouTube if you're having problems, but for that one, you need to go around to the side and throw the remote charge in a gap in the structure near the 2nd floor, which will bring it down in one explosion if you do it right, no hammer required.
I beat it this past weekend. Fun game, but I could never get the sneaking mechanics to work. I could sneak up behind a guard and nail him with the sledge, but as soon as he was killed all of the other guards were alerted to my position. SMH. I thought the sledge was supposed to be a silent weapon :-\
I can't tell if you're joking or not. ???I should have specified that the guards were alerted, regardless of their proximity to my position. I didn't want to play the entire game sneaking around anyways (i played it much more juggernaut style), but everytime I tried a subversive approach it didn't work like I thought it should.
I'm getting the hang of things and it's pretty cool. At least there always seems to be a vehicle to drive from here and there. Destruction animations are cool. Makes me have to find the building weak points and exploit them for massive damage.
n00b question:
When would the upgrade to pick up scrap metal while driving be handy?

This is your best friend. The sledgehammer is a versatile, non-threatening weapon that can smash through just about anything - and no ammo needed. Its (sic) silent, powerful attack makes it ideal for thinning EDF ranks without raising the alarm. So much for that theory.

Destruction Master missions are the best. They should put out DLC that just adds a buttload more of them.

Badlands had so many stupid transporter missions.

Fuck yes. The best is when they say "take it to a safe house" but ITS NOT THE ONE RIGHT NEXT TO THE MISSION START.
