Finally beat the game.. spent a good 2 hours yesterday trying to beat the last mission with no luck. Tried it one time today and beat it :\

Got 240 or so of the supply boxes.. guess I might use one of those guides to find the other 10  :lol

Amazing SP game, not feeling the MP too much though.

How in the hell did you get the last missions?  I'm stuck at 100/104 and I dread the thought of sitting in multiple sections of each area just waiting for a mission to activate.

Just liberated Dust.  This game is all kinds of awesome.  Best mission so far was the one where you break into the EDF base, jack the walker, destroy everything in sight, get on truck and fend off ATVs.  So cool.

The multiplayer is mostly great.  I've put in about 10 hours and I've enjoyed myself about 90% of the time.  Siege mode is fantastic.  Are you making these determinations after playing one match?

Yep. Team Anarchy didn't have my tearing my dick off after 3 minutes so it is the best mode.

Any mode in any game can be shit on a bad map with shitty teammates?  You have to give these things more time.  Siege mode is great, and it's one of the things that makes Red Faction different from other shooters.

Sorry I have already decided. Team Anarchy or bust. Btw, if you want to boost the gay ass map achievement and the explode a flyer let me know. I'm not interested in playing up to 100k XP, etc. I will probably play up to 10k, since I already have 1.4k after just 11 matches.

I'll help you out since you went to all the trouble of making the guerrilla action maps.  That was cool of you.  I'll be online tomorrow.

I still think your attitude kind of sucks towards the game :/  Relax and have fun with it!

I don't like multiplayer achievements either, especially then they make you grind a lot, so I never do them unless I like the game.  Never.  I only bother with multiplayer modes in a few games, and that's usually when I can play with my RL friends.  I can't imagine playing multiplayer just to get achievements.  There are plenty of points out there to get.  If you don't like it, just skip it :/

Bringing down that huge bridge between Dust and the Bandlands gave me a boner.  Seriously.

I want to do that so badly, but it makes a few of the Transporter Pro missions impossible, and I'm not done with them yet.  I think I decided I'm going to do them after all.

BEST GAME OF 2009 SO FAR

My friend and I did that (CTF on Quarantine) for a little bit to get some of the achievements, which was kind of fun since we were just shooting the shit.  But then we played online for reals for a few hours and had a blast.  I'll get the 10,000 XP and 8 hidden challenges achievements, but I doubt I'll come close to 100k or 250 ranked matches played/won.  I hate how unbalanced these multiplayer achievements are - you can get a lot immediately and then nothing for dozens of hours.  They should have designed it with a few more carrots along the way.

ending was fairly meh. i expected some huge major destructible set piece but i just had to fight a tank then destroy some hatch door. would have been cool if they had this giant citadel that you had to systematically take down and then got to see it come down in awesome slow motion.

thats kind of my biggest problem with the game. it doesn't take it's own hook far enough. i

Started this today. It's awesome. I'm nearabouts to saying FUCKAWESOME, but am not 100% sold on the "HEY THIS SHIT IS GETTING REAL. DROP WHATEVER YOU'RE DOING AND COME ACROSS THE MAP" mechanic for some guerilla actions. I'm on my way to try a Demolition trial again, and I've been called to intercept a caravan AND go be someone's gunner... I'm a busy little terrorist.

It's either a lot harder than Saints Row 2, or I'm doing something wrong. Trying to jack a military car is not as easy as walking up and opening the door. There's that electricity rifle that electrocutes people IN cars, that's pretty sweet, but if there is already more than one car in the area, they're not shy about driving over me, rolling back and forth, smashing me between each other, and otherwise really messing me up. Also, hey, no invulnerability when getting into a car, so that can be kind of tense. Maybe one of the upgrades will let me slide into an open window, Duke of Hazzard style. Driving seems a little more fun than SR2 because it's slightly less tight than SR2 but not as "realistic" as GTA IV's sloppy model. But what I really like is just going over the organic terrain and getting big air. Hopefully there are races, but no Unique Jumps. I hate those things.

I just liberated Carson, and honestly I'm a little overwhelmed with how much space seems opened up and how many jobs are available. The game looks huge right now, and I'm really looking forward to it.

srsly has anyone beat the Dust demo mission with 9 rockets under pro time. i'm about to break my own wall

I've not got there yet. The one I'm having trouble with now is the one in Carson's northwest corner. Not the construction mech, but the bunker destruction with only the remote charges and hammer with a 00:20 Pro time limit. I've got it down to 24-26 seconds, but that just means I'm missing the key of the puzzle.

They are pretty much all on YouTube if you're having problems, but for that one, you need to go around to the side and throw the remote charge in a gap in the structure near the 2nd floor, which will bring it down in one explosion if you do it right, no hammer required.

I beat it this past weekend. Fun game, but I could never get the sneaking mechanics to work. I could sneak up behind a guard and nail him with the sledge, but as soon as he was killed all of the other guards were alerted to my position. SMH. I thought the sledge was supposed to be a silent weapon  :-\

Thanks -- actually, the one I'm trying to get is a single-story bunker, 2nd from top-leftmost Demo minigame in Carson. And I got it; I figured out that if I put the bombs lower on the structure, its weight would work a little faster to initiate the CRITICAL state. Got an 18 second time!

Now I'm just trying to figure the Dust one, where it's a low flat building you only can use a hammer on. Pro-time is 1:00 and my best is still 1:09. :-( I'll give YouTube a shot if I can't suss the problem out in the next five or ten tries, thanks for the tip.

I should have specified that the guards were alerted, regardless of their proximity to my position. I didn't want to play the entire game sneaking around anyways (i played it much more juggernaut style), but everytime I tried a subversive approach it didn't work like I thought it should.

Ah. Well, I can't fault you for wanting to try various means of finishing missions in a game which is this open. It's crazy how much nutty stuff you can try in this, and have it pay off.

But if you want to forgive the game within the context of game fiction, you could allow that the EDF troops have some kind of medical alert beacon bracelet which goes off when they are smashed with a hammer. The bracelet reads "Allergic to hammers."

...In other news, I cleared the bunker in 00:18 seconds (w00t!) and even managed to get through the hammer-only Pro time 00:55 Demo in Dust. The latter was worse, as it requires fast movement, and it's way too easy to get hung up on a junk chair or bookcase, or lose track of the camera. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to clear all of them, but so far it's been a very engaging challenge.

I'm getting the hang of things and it's pretty cool. At least there always seems to be a vehicle to drive from here and there. Destruction animations are cool. Makes me have to find the building weak points and exploit them for massive damage.

n00b question:

When would the upgrade to pick up scrap metal while driving be handy?

What demi said.

Basically cars=armor and if you're in a hot area with scrap, being able to tool around in it with a car, well, it pays for itself pretty quickly. You'll be happy with it the first time you don't have to flee from an area without picking stuff up.

I figured out why this game is so exciting for me: it's basically everything I'd hoped for from Mercs 2, after that game failed to deliver the goods:

It's one-against-many, has excellent, oppressive bad guys, challenging gameplay with reasonable (but not omniscient) AI, loads of interesting destruction which can aid in finishing the mission creatively, physics-toy like driving model with lots of off-road. I'm SO happy I finished Mercs 2 before starting this, because this is the worthy successor to Mercenaries.
