FUGLY!
As for the UMD games there will* be a way(Japan only :lol) to transfer it to memory stick or a code(for download).Machines that eat up UMDs...
Apparently Sony is not too happy to do it,but bu bu bu what about UMD, journalist questions are stronger
*from a good source...but rumor until confirmed
Can't believe this is real, it looks so fucking awful.
even the screen is smaller. smh
3.8" screen (PSP currently has 4.3" screen. The DSi got a .5 inch bigger screen, PSP Go gets .5 inch smaller screen lol)
I can't believe they made a circular groove for a second analog but they put two semi-circle buttons in it :rofl
My dad has a Ps3 at the house but I wouldn't mind getting one for myself when I move out for school.

then you are not replacing one, you're buying one for yourself
i'm talking about the people who get all excited to drop an extra four hundred bones on something because it is a little smaller
on second thought the nub placement is slighlty similar to how it looks on a dual shockthat's what I thought too, which is to say that it is shitty

I bought a DSi while having a DS Lite :teehee
One hilarious thing I just realized is that they let you slide the screen, but other than L/R, you have no control over the actions. If you want to use media or even use the browser, you still need to open the device up. Good jon, sony.
and it's releasing in fall. Gran Turismo PSP most likely launching with it. It's considered a premium product and may not cost less than the current PSP.

i'm saving the rest of my ranting for the borecast, but those are good points
i take it there is no touch screen to compensate?

someone with photoshop skillz fix this:
move the nub parallel to the right direction button, add a second parallel to the square
place the start/select in the freed space underneath
QuoteIts like its just one feature away from being a PSP phone (i.e the actual phone capability)
It has bluetooth so maybe Skype will come pre-loaded?
sony fans are going to despise me after the next show
i'm taking notes
Call it an abortion of handheld design.
The fucking NGAGE looks more appealing.

LOOKS TOTALLY SWEET DUDES, BUY CONFIRMED
This looks like a Tapwave Zodiac. I'm off to google.
it looks like the device may use a propriety cable instead of usb 2.0.ffs As someone else mentioned, its as if they're trying to fail.
Sony needs to cut their losses and GTFO of the handheld business. Make that the videogame business, period actually. You guys had a good run, but they're looking more and more like the late SEGA days. This thing doesn't even play existing games, unless with a transfer? This thing seems like a Sony shot in the dark to cut down on piracy, by having download only games.
Ugh No, even with this idiotic redesign, I'm still grateful for having another handheld besides by DS. Can you imagine how fucking horrible it would've been if only we had the DS this gen?
List Wars?! Did I hear list wars!?
Let me find that piece of paper brb
That was for Hollywood who had the audacity to post a list of the PSP's upcoming releases :P
If anything it's clear that companies were holding off on announcing games until the announcement of redesign debut.spoiler (click to show/hide)Motorstorm, LBP, and Assasin's Creed. Ok, I'm done.[close]
Looks awful
boooo, guess I'm sticking with my PSP-1000
I want to make veronica belmont feel uncomfortable, with my penis
Aren't both DSi screen touch based? That didn't break the older games! And the fucking DSi was BC with existing DS games!
This is a half assed attempt at a PSP2 anyone that thinks differently is a tool. They're rushing it out to compete with the DSi and it just wont work.
someone on gaf also noticed that there is no longer a battery slot. No more removable battery.

Yeah, I saw it coming since this the whole idea of this redesign is to battle piracy. No more pandora.
and if you bought TV out cables for the PSP, you can't use them on this new PSP Go.
I'm starting to believe that Sony's goal was to fuck up

Not really. All of you guys speak baselessly on un-official pictures and the likes. Just because it looks cramped doesn't mean it is. The GBA SP looked terrible and cramped yet it played fine.

The GBASP played all of your existing gba (and gb) games. This won't play any existing disc based psp games, this it's shit.
I'm glad i'm not a nerd anymore who actually cares what happens at these conferences.
Then don't bitch when we bitch about all the SHITTY things Sony does.
Early adopters???? The fucking system has been out since 2004 with several hardware revisions already! There are hundreds of disc based games out. This is like the PS3 slim not running any existing games. How the fuck can you defend this shit?
Ban/leper that filth.
Anyone who thinks this redesign is good is a fanboy and/or an idiot. A lot of design aesthetics are being violated here: tacky white border, silver screws, depressed buttons, etc. Not only that but there is no UMD slot, no battery slot, nothing; this effectively pisses on those PSP owners who wanted to upgrade to a newer system.I'll give you that; the aethestic aren't best, even with Sony's pedigree. But, good riddance to the UMD slot and many consumer electronics have non removable rechargeable batteries. They probably did this to avoid any hacking exploits.
Sony has their head firmly entrenched in their ass this generation.

Who cares? The DS Lite can't play GBA games. Like Sony said, this device isn't for the early adapters.

the fuck?
it's more like a new model X360 not playing X360 disk games.
Seriously, no matter how much you love/hate the idea behind this design, it's exremely idiotic for then not have any type of transfer tool. I know someone is going to bring up the "but what if people start renting and transferring games" argument, but I don't care. Having to buy this new model but still needing the older PSP around for whenever I wanna play older games just defeats the purpose of portability or "GO!" as Sony likes to put it.

Redesign chatter aside, it bothers me that people are defending Sony's removal of the UMD slot. It *is* alienating the current user base and it's basically telling all the stores carrying PSP games to effectively fuck off. If they have a solution, like a UMD-ripping device or a way to download every game I've purchased previously, then no problem.
A lot of people still don't have the ability (or knowledge, lol) to be able to download large files so quickly and/or easily, and unlike say, the iPhone, I doubt new downloadable PSP games are going to be priced at around $1-$10 each. $30-$40 download-only 200mb-1+gb portable game titles don't strike me as a particularly appealing way to spike sales.
QuoteWhatever, it's not surprising to see EB is still MS fanboys.
and it's good to see that in Playstation land anything remotely negative to with Sony is always attempted to be palmed off as some sort of fanboy slim.
I have bought 5 PSPs over time, there's fucking 7 in the house right this second (including the wifes) and in excess of 200 UMD based fucking games.
The delusional "it's sony , they said it's for the best, i will fall in line with their PR message straight from the mothership like a mindless fucking drone" attitude is fucking infuriating. If you can't see ANY of the negative points of this machine.... then tsk.
just goes to show some people will defend anything to justify whatever laughable sense of loyalty they have bouncing alongside the wasps in their brain
It's not really fair to judge the distribution model or how they will deal with existing UMD games yet. All we know is that there is a proprietary port on the bottom of the device. No word if there is or isn't going to be some way to play UMD games. That stuff is going to be shown on Tuesday.
$200 ass fucking edition psp or a $200 iPhone with cheaper games? RIP Sony.
- Incompatible with existing accessories. Again, we don't know this yet

QuoteAs Sony said, this isn't a new PSP, it's to go alongside the PSP 3000. Who gives a flying fuck if you can't play your UMD's on it if PSP 3000's are still going to be sold?
....
so....
there's a whole slew of sony fans outside the XX million who already invested in PSP's who are just waiting in the wings for an internet redesign?
or Sony are going to expect some of that fanbase to buy another machine with the same abilities in a redesign but without the software base they either bought or pirated?
sounds completely fucking dumb to me and exactly the sort of thinking that is fucking sony up.
All that said, transfer tool would be awesoem for UMDs but i doubt it'll happen as that opens up the danger of someone hacking the licensing tool and backwards engineering this and they end up with no sales again.
I wonder what the price will be?QuoteCan't play UMD software. We don't know this yet, unless you mean UMD's.the lack of a UMD slot makes it a bit tricky and creating a UMD transfer tool is a security risk, so until something is announced, we shall see. At the moment , and because i've heard nothing else, i cannot see how this can play UMD games or movies at the moment.

Hey idiot, I paid $200 for my iPhone two weeks ago. Research your trolling.
(I got the 8gig since I already have a 120gig iPod fattie)
Tiger Woods on Iphone looks better than the psp one, has superior controls, and is $10. PSP fails.
- Can't play UMD software. We don't know this yet, unless you mean UMD's.
- Battery is internal, which means changing it is going to require some surgery. Who gives a shit? Almost any handheld gaming device within the past 8 years has internal batteries
- New form factor might make it less comfortable for some. We don't know this yet.
- Incompatible with existing accessories. Again, we don't know this yet
- More difficult to access controls for media functions while the machine is closed, leaving the machine open while using it as a music player would obviously be stupid. Again, we don't know this yet.
1. Yes, I meant UMDs. I think that's pretty obvious, but I guess I might have to go a bit slower here, seeing the way you've responded.
2. Most handheld gaming devices have internal batteries, that's true. But inaccessible batteries? No, not really.
3. That's why I said "might", and I think it's a safe assumption, as absolutely no device is perfect for everyone. Interestingly you didn't use this logic to address my listing of this point in the positive column, but hey - whatever, man.
4. Yes, we do. You can visually eyeball the ports and connections this machine has. They're different.
5. Yes, we do. You can eyeball the buttons on the machine. When it's closed, it has three accessible buttons. Maybe it comes with a remote? I don't know. You can get a remote for the existing PSP, though, without losing those buttons.
And yes dur hur hur the PSP 3000 will be sold alongside it. But that has nothing at all to do with what I'm asking, which is why *anyone* would choose the GO over the 3k.
The only one I have is the TV out cable. It uses the little horizontal bar thing next to the headphone jack.Ah the TV Out cable not working sucks, but I highly doubt they'd take that feature out.
Hey Methodis, did you spin this hard for the DSi, too?

Let me hi-jack this thread and ask you fine Evilborians a question; is the DSi worth it yet? :/

S'cuse ma iggorance senior, but what's a propriety port?
The fanboys keep failing to address the fact that this redesign fucks over the PSP's existing userbase. They might find it to be cold and lonely by setting those bridges on fire. Not really sure what incentives Go would offer to bring the gamers to the yard. Gran Turismo and Metal Gear won't really cut it. Even fewer incentives to make PSP users ditch their previous models and disc games for this new model. Except for those who have a lot of money and not a lot of common sense.
You can still play DS games on a DSi, so it's better than this new psp.Meh, it can't play my favorite DS game though, Rheumatoid Arthritis Hero :(

if i upgrade to a dsi, i can take all the games i already own to the DSi.
i don't presonally see the point and i haven't upgraded.
However, if i did want a PSP Go! because i liked the design/it's thin/etc then i would have (until it's announced otherwise) no way to play the games i have already bought.
Also, i have four (yes i know) batteries for my PSP for long flights and travel. Again, yeah, you're right - i don't have to upgrade because PSP3000 etc etc, but isn't that exactly the point? if people are already saying "oh you own a PSP but you have this qualm? fine, you don't have to upgrade" seems to already spell out that this is going to be a bit of a disaster unless they have a UMD solution.
was this actually announced with a date? because at this point i expect Lord Lucan and Elvis to be on a stage on the mood demoing this at this point.
if it has a mem stick option, then why would they even bother with this.
If they are doing some sort of different lock out on the HDD :/
GUYS GRAND TURISMO AT E3. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOI'll believe it when I see it. Sony was promising a PSP Gran Turismo since the damn thing was revealed five years ago. :maf
ONLY POSSIBLE WITH THE PSP GO!
so what gaming retailer is going to carry this
"sure sony, we'll take your hardware that comes with 5% margin and no software for us to sell. that space was just going to be used for more second hand wii games which we can sell at a higher margin"
wonder if someone like EB is going to say "get fucked"
What I don't understand is why Nintendo and Sony aren't making true successors. I thought the dsi would at least have tilt and a second touchscreen. After the success of the ds and smartphones I figured if the next psp wanted to be relevant they'd incorporate at LEAST a touchscreen.
It took like, 11 years to get a true gameboy successor and thats a sad precedent to follow.
Sony bashing at Evilbore, who would've thought. ::)
Hey Methodis, did you spin this hard for the DSi, too?
New PSP is more like some PSP tard pack...
Soo..why would retailers want to stock a game system they can't sell games for, anyways?
Soo..why would retailers want to stock a game system they can't sell games for, anyways?
The 3000 would still be receiving game releases on UMD's, and they could also stock on game boxes that contains manuals and download vouchers like they did with Patapon 2.

I was interested in Patapon 2, but as soon as it went DDL only, I lost interest.

The DD-only idea must look like such an elegant solution to a lot of problems for the game industry. My gut tells me that killing off the rental/used market is going to have unintended consequences for the overall health of the industry, but I have nothing to back that other than a hypothesis and my previously mentioned gut.

(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.joystiq.com/media/2009/06/psp.go.accessories.060409-1024px.jpg)QuoteSony had a spot in its press-only booth area reserved for showing off the various accessories that will be available for PSP Go when it hits US shelves on October 1. There were cases, wrist straps, Sony-branded screen protectors ... and wait, what was that? Since the handheld doesn't have a standard mini USB port like the PSP-3000, we'll have to buy all new accessories? Sad, but true.
The PSP Go has a new multifunction port on its base (check out the video!) that is used for everything from data transfer to charging to video output. While asking owners of the older model to change a USB cable is not really a big deal, the fact that more expensive existing accessories -- such as component A/V cables, voice headsets and pretty much anything made to work with the 3000 -- are completely incompatible is cringe-worthy. That's not even taking into account third-party add-ons, or things like Sony's own GPS module.
We know Sony is planning a trade-in program for UMD games; somehow we think the company won't be extending the same offer to include cables, peripherals and other accessories.
I just wonder how many of these will be packaged with the Go! (there isn't an official word on that yet)
I can understand why the AV cables won't, but the headset and USB connector should!
The PSP®go System includes:
* PSP®go System (Available in Piano Black or Pearl White)
* USB Cable
* AC Adaptor
Premium Peripherals for the PSP® go
* Composite AV Cable

* Wired Headphones

So it's confirmed that it won't be packaged with a headphone, pouch, or a bare minimum M2 stick? (which is ironic because Sony considers this as a "premium" model, when it only contains the accessories of a "basic" PSP)
They could've at least included the headphones instead of the AC adapter since the USB cable can charge the PSP.
The one nice thing about the TV Out cable for the Go is that you can now use the Dual Shock 3 to play games. Of course there is the problem of not being able to charge while using TV out, but maybe Sony could that out by it's release.
Has that been confirmed? All I can remember was the wild speculation of some fans when it was revealed that the Go! includes Bluetooth connectivity. I have to admit that it's a nifty feature (although it needs way more of the same kind to be justified).
So the 3000 HAS been hacked? No one seems to be talking about it.

Just to be sure, you can't just your old PSP 1k/2k/3k memory sticks with this thing?
If you have a PS3, why in the world would you want to play your PSP games blown up on your HDTV? Especially since the vast majority of PSP games are scaled-down console games. This is a completely useless feature that's just there for the sake of it being there. Typical Sony this generation.

It's already been done once with Resistance Retribution, which IIRC even lets you use both analog sticks on the PS3 pad.
Not every game is on the PS3, either. Dammit, Mattt.

That's the equivalent of $366. So much for launching the thing at the same price the original was at launch (£179). Sucks to be a Euro-Sigarillo.
Why So Expensive?

Retribution would look so, so ugly blown up on any TV over 19". My point is that this completely misses the whole point of the PSP being a portable system. Then again, I thought the Gameboy player was the dumbest thing ever, too.
Game is taking pre-orders at a "guide price" of £230, a significant jump over the average retail price of £100 for the current PSP.
one quick hilarious update about this thing
some sites mentioned that the PSP Go will come with voucher to download Rock Band Unplugged. It turns out that it includes a voucher to download the Rock Band Unplugged demo. But it isn't the same demo that is already on PSN, it's a PSP Go exclusive demo.

Smaller form factor means smaller battery. Same thing happened with the iPhone. The 2g version has a slightly bigger battery. When the 3g came out the form factor was slimmed and a smaller battery was used since the 2g batteries would have not fit in the device.psp go battery life is actually shorter than regular psp
How is that even possible lol
