Title: Street Fighter IV Tournament Thread (RoboJ WINS! ROBOMANIA IS RUNNING WILD)
Post by: bork on June 10, 2009, 02:31:44 PM
ROBO J HAS WON WITH A CLEAN SWEEP!

:bow :bow :bow ROBO J ROBO J ROBO J :bow2 :bow2 :bow2

THE CHAMP IS HERE!

I'd like to thank everyone who took part in this tournament!  I had a blast, and I hope you all did too!   :)  It was sad that we had three players drop out, although in Originalz' case, he was leaving to go on a long vacation, and since he notified me in advance, no problems were had.  It sucks that Banuda Ultra and Jehuty had to be DQ'd, however.  I never did get any messages from them afterward, and haven't seen any message board posts from them (on their site) since early July.  If we do another tournament, I hope the next one will be able to be finished much quicker.   :lol

The final break down:

1. RoboJ

3. Bacchus 7
4. Toonami99

5. Enl
5. Beezy
5. Archie 4208

6. Jehuty (Disqualified)
6. Banuda Ultra (Disqualified)
7. Tiesto
7. Rman

Good games, everyone!

So far that's six on 360 and three on PS3.  I'm sure MoxManiac would be down for PS3, so that's four there.  I know a few people that I'm sure would enter the 360 tourney too.  Let me know if you guys know any people that might be interested in this.

Time won't be an issue, guys.  This is an online tourney, so you get matched up with someone, decide on a time to play your game, and post the results.  No rush, but hopefully people can play their matches within a few days of getting matched up each time.

4. If the players are disconnected, restart the match with the same number of rounds won/lost
5. If a player makes no contact with his opponent within a few days of being paired up, he will be disqualified.

So if those who are DEFINITELY going to take part, post your Xbox Live Gamertag or PSN ID, and the two characters you will use.  The format should be like this:

360 / lyte edge / Chun-Li / Cammy
PSN / lyteedge / Chun-Li / Cammy

Yeah, it's always fun being part of these!  It's a different feeling playing in tourney matches; makes me want to try some of the real ones offline now, although I'm the type that would probably buckle under the pressure of everybody watching.   :-[  I've missed out on the yearly Final Round tourneys here in the ATL and also missed out on the Neo Shodown tourneys that happened in '98 and '99 IIRC.  A lot of the guys that go to these used to come into the game store where I worked and we'd play stuff.  I recognized some of the faces from the last FR this year from there and from GSU.  Very nostalgic!

Most of the online tourney matches I've played have been so intense and often very, very close.  I love matches like that!

Here's the first of two matches I just had tonight in the latest NeoGAF tourney:

The last match (Cammy vs. Cammy) was crazy and slower than usual...we were both very cautious as one fuck-up could lead to the other getting destroyed.  I won this and moved on to the next round in the winners' bracket, but I think PhatSaqs is going to (easily) take the XBL tourney and FindMyFarms will get the PSN one.  FindMyFarms sent MoxManiac to the losers' bracket tonight...I was rooting for you Mox!!   :)

I don't know how much longer I'm going to be playing SF4 "hardcore" though.  I've got 200+ hours put into the arcade, 360, and PS3 versions combined, and am feeling like it may be time to move onto Blaz Blue and KOF XII (I hope the latter is good.  PLEASE BE GOOD); TBH I was never all that big into 3rd Strike and while I like SF4 a whole lot more, there are things about it that I also am not big on.  I kind of don't want to stop playing though; feels like I've come a long way and also still have much, much longer way to go before I get anywhere near Haunts' level, for example, if ever!  I guess basically I'm ready for SF4 Champion Edition!   :lol

There was some shit said about him losing that match to Mike Ross, like "I got haunts'd" and stuff like that.  Completely undeserved since haunts did nothing but help people out and post lots of info in that thread.  Dickheads.

BTW you gonna be in the tourney Archie?  You haven't put down your characters yet!

So I popped in SFIV today to see if I still had it, and man, I just had like 10 matches against some dude named  StoneFace12.

I main exclusively between Ryu and Sagat and so did he. He beat me pretty well in every 5 round match we played.

So finally, he's beating me 9-0 and I think fuck it this ain't worth the hassle and I jokingly pick Sakura. Well to my utter suprise, I actually win that match. Mind blown.

Yeah, sadly I don't think I'll be entering this tournament guys. I mean, I can't even put up a fight with my main against this guy but I win with a complete random? smh

Dont mean to derail the thread but overall KOFXII is a lot of fun. I guess it plays differently than some other KOFs have in the past but man its a  good time, with the custom combos, deadlock system and everything like that. It has its issues just like any other fighting games but I played it a total of like 12 hours in two days if that says anything.

I play Goro / Kyo / Kim. Goro is such a bad ass with his super armor grabs. He will grip anyone, i am still getting used to him though. Kyo is pretty straight forward character, easy combos and stuff. Kim is a little trickier but a lot of fun to play anyway. I may switch him out down the line but for now Ive been doing well with that team.

No reason to stop playing SFIV though. I have heard of a lot of people quitting but to me it seems silly. Just take a break, if you feel like playing, then play, if not then dont.

Yours is the first really positive review I've read from people I trust.  Others are saying it's just kinda "eh" and that players have already dropped it in favor of KOF 2002 UM instead.  I am still going to be all over this though.  I fucking love KOF and finally, finally, FINALLY it's online (outside Japan sans KDDI fee).  I am gonna be playing it nonstop I think.

No reason to stop playing SFIV though. I have heard of a lot of people quitting but to me it seems silly. Just take a break, if you feel like playing, then play, if not then dont.

Well it's because the game is (was?) beginning to get a bit boring to me.  I've put shitloads of time into it and played it for months now, and so parts of it are beginning to get stale.  I always enjoy doing the online tourneys and playing with friends though.  I took a little break for over a week and that helped; also started messing with other characters and that too re-invigorated things, but I want some more variety, and Blaz Blue and KOF XII are just that!  I've also tried to change up my style and go more on the offensive, making more use of FAs.

BTW did you get the game on PS3 too?  I was wondering why you were finally online on PSN after like five months.   :lol

All right guys, GET STARTED ON THE TOURNEY!  Let's make it so that all first round matches must be played by next Tuesday, the 23rd.  A week is way more than enough time!

For me, I'm not a die hard KOF fan so maybe I am a little more open minded. The game is pretty basic over all, but it's still fun to me. The fact CC takes off so much dosent bother me that much since you have 3 fuckin teammates anyway. Seems a lot of ppl think the game is shit becuase of how much damage the CCs do.

My only issue, as I stated, is that it feels unresponsive at times. It usually plays smooth but sometimes I feel I have no control over my character for whatever reason. I think this may be due to the converters (although they dont fuck up on other games) but who knows really. Could be my imagination but the other person I was palying with said the same thing.

...and yeah I got the PS3 version of SFIV about a month ago and finally popped it in the triple the other night to see whats good. Starting from the bottom in Chamionship Mode is hella funny. Playing fools who just got the game. lol.

Slightly changed up brackets since Jehuty is in.  He's going to take my slot and I will sit the first round out if T234 (where are youuuuuuuuuuuu) doesn't respond soon.

Everyone gets two chances in this tourney!  If you lose, you have to the left instead of the right in the brackets.  That's why you're gonna need more than two days in this tourney!

Explain this more clearly.  What do you mean "he promptly kept on going," and is that "0-3" three matches played (three rounds each) total?  If that's the case, you guys didn't even need to play three matches; you only need two matches won to advance.  Or did something else happen?

The same post with the rules was put up elsewhere so that shouldn't be an issue.

Good matches Beezy!

First match was Chun-li (Enl) vs. Dictator (Beezy) which ended 3-1. First round started in the marketplace where Chun began whipping out some vicious combos on the Dictator only to have him make a great comeback in the end. That only fueled her rage for the 2nd round where  she landed a perfect on him. The Dictator fought a better game in the last two rounds but Chun-li had her dead daddy vengence in the end.

The 2nd match was Evil Clone Dictator (Enl) vs. Dictator (Beezy) which ended in 3-0. The round pitted the Dictator against his evil clone on the shores of the firey volcano hell. Poor Dictator didn't realize that his clone knew all his tricks and weaknesses which resulted in him taking a long over due lava bath.

Winner: Enl

Just played robobobobo J, first match lost 0-3, got my ass handed to me. I even went to training mode to see if my controls were fucked up or something. They weren't. Second match was closer, Robo J has really good D, punish, and cross-up. We went 2-2, the fourth round got him with a super izuna drop (I was in the Ultra, and I think he just blocked 'cause no vega fucking saves up for super Izuna lol); I'm sure we were both laughing. He finished the match with a sound beating in round 5.

You have Guile listed as your secondary and I was pretty worried you'd switch over to him.  Played well, that match-up is really terrible for Dictator, and my Sagat isn't anywhere near good enough to rely on.

Title: Street Fighter IV Tournament Thread -- ROUND 2 HAS BEGUN!
Post by: bork on June 29, 2009, 09:38:59 PM
Okay guys, all matches have been played...time to move onto ROUND 2!  Everyone is still in the game; those in the winners' bracket who lose will move to a random spot in the losers' bracket and play again in ROUND 3.  Those of you in the losers' bracket who lose this time around, thanks for playing and better luck next time!

Let's see about having all matches finished by next Tuesday, July 7th.

I'll add Banuda as a friend tomorrow and see if I can get my match done soonish. It's going to be weird going back to this game now that I've had Garou and BlazBlue on my mind.

I lost, 3-1 both matches.
Title: Re: Street Fighter IV Tournament Thread
Post by: Enl on July 04, 2009, 02:53:05 AM
I assume I won the match. I don't think he realized that he had to stick with 2 characters as he chose 3. So I don't know if this counts.

1st round: Chun-li (Enl) vs Balrog (Banuda) 3-0

Total destruction of the boxer. Managed to pull a lot of good combos of on this one.

2nd Round: Dictator (Enl) vs Cammy (Banuda) 2-3

Extremely close match. Most of them ending with a sliver of health. He's got Cammy's summersault toss down to an art.

3rd Round: Dictator (Enl) vs Sagat (Banuda) 3-2

Another set of very close matches. There was a ton of close up tight defense going on. Exchanging rapid back and forths as each of us successfully blocks each other's attacks until the inevitable screw up.

Enl, you get the win officially, but even if you had lost, you'd still be in the winners' bracket...Banuda was only supposed to stick with the two pre-selected characters, so match #2 is disqualified.

Originalz, you're headed to a slot in the losers' bracket now, mayne.

Just played against T234, won the first match 3-1, and the second match was 3-1 as well I think. Was nervous about winning because he's much more completely fucking awesome at dropping those ultimates than I am.

Good game, T234! Sorry I didn't have a mic. Bacchus7, I will see you in your living room (or mine) some time in the next week, with Coors Light. Wednesday night?

(Me)Bison vs (tiesto)Cammy

They were mostly close matches. I've always had problems fighting Cammy with Bison so I lost the 2nd round, but I managed to come back in the last round. Lucky for me, tiesto hasn't faced many Bison players.

That final match was epic, RoboJ. So much sweat was pouring off of me that I got a little too slippery for the contols.

Match I: Chun-li (Enl) vs Dictator (RoboJ) 0-3
Match II: Dictator (Enl) vs Sagat (RoboJ) 3-0
Match III: Dictator (Enl) vs Dictator (RoboJ) 2-3

Winner: RoboJ

Yeah Archie, we had a heated session!   :D  We might be seeing each other again at the end of this tourney!

We had an intense series of matches, guys.  It was my Chun against Archie's Honda.  First match was 2-3 him.  I took a more defensive game and paid for it, but what really got me was flipping over right into his Ultra!  I made sure not to do that again in the next match, and baited him into doing his Ultra with pretty good results.  Second match went 3-0, me.  Our third match was pretty close overall, but I took it 3-1 in the end.  Easily the most challenging match I've had in this tournament!

RoboJ, we're up next!

We had a very close, hectic set of matches!  I used Chun-Li in the first match and Cammy in the second and third matches; break down went 2-3 him, 3-1 me, then 2-3 him!  I thought I had Robo after the second match, but he came back in round 2 of the final match and kicked my ass all over!  It was an awesome bout!   :D :D

Weird bout........first match we disconnected after we had a round apiece and identical health in third round (about 2/5 left). We played again and I beat his Ryu two matches in a row, was easy to punish baited dp's. He picked Guile third match, and that's when I started lagging, I got really lucky and almost perfected him first round, then won second round by the skin of my teeth. We just did best of five three-round matches (idk I wasn't host).

OK, just to make sure everyone left is clear, the matches left to play are:

Beezy Vs. Toonami 99--> Winner vs. Archie 4208

Bacchus7 Vs. Ch1nchila --> Winner Vs. Enl

The winners of the Archie and Enl matches will then play each other, and finally the winner of that match will play against me to decide the winner of the losers' bracket.  Then it's onto the championship round against RoboJ FOR THE BORITO GOLD BRONZE!

RoboJ was M. Bison (Dictator) for all three matches.

I doubt there's enough people here with the PC version for that to work.  Same reason we didn't have a tourney for the PS3 version, and sadly also the reason why I had to get people from outside the forum to join in.  There aren't a lot of fightin' boritos here.

Okay. I actually did accept his friend request days ago. He's on my friendlist, unless Toonami918 is someone else. I didn't respond to his message though. I'll be on Live for the rest of the night. If he doesn't come online before the day is over, then I don't mind being DQed.

Okay, we had our match. He dominated my Bison in the first match 3-0 because I've faced a Gen player before. The second round was close though. He barely won 3-2 with a grab at the end. :(

Were you Bison in the second round too, Beezy?  That's pretty impressive that you came back if so, good job!

NEXT UP IS TOONAMI VS. ARCHIE GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO!!

Bacchus, Ch1nchilla...need updates from you guys.  Please don't make me do a DQ.   :'(

Yeah I was Bison. Literally whoever got the next hit would win the final round and he managed to grab me. Good games.

Here's the skinny...I work 12-13 hour days, and chris just left for the weekend--we tried all week to get it done but I get home by the time he has to sleep--if we play it Tuesday when he gets back and Enl agrees to play the winner of us the day after on Wednesday or on Thursday, can we do that? I told Chris I'd just forfeit because of this week's schedule, but he was having none of it. What say you, Lyte, and Enl, are ye patient?

Most are on 360.

I kind of want to go grab the 360 version after work.

I use the Mad Catz fight pad.  You *NEED* the six-button layout to play this game right.  You might be able to get by with the PS3 pad, but don't even think about trying this game with a regular 360 controller.

Meanwhile, BACK TO THE TOURNEY-- WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU GUYS??

Fuckin' Vegas and shit. More like Gayga. Oh.

I lost. Pillaged in the first round, came back in the second like a boss, lost focus for the final three, was tossed. Bacchus7 will give more in-depth details, I'm sure.

Well, it was like, Vega pulled some cigarillo-hag shit in the first round and was like, "Yo, Ryu, iz you my bitch?" And then Ryu's like "I don't wife 'em up, I dick 'em down" and beat Vega like a claw-handed stepchild in the second round. Only Ryu didn't see the step-dad bear trap that Vega threw behind him in the third round.

Haha, me too!  It feels really awkward playing this game after KOF XII (XII plays smoother [offline of course] and the controls are tighter), so much so that I've started playing SF4 again and playing less of XII as to not get too rusty!

Enl and I played. First match he played Chun Li, Vega won 3-1 if I remember right. Second match he switched it up to Bison and crushed me first two rounds. Then I eked out a couple of my own and built the super meter. Fifth round I went balls to the wall and tried a rolling izuna drop off of a back-handspring and landed it, crucial damage and I got the round.
Title: Re: Street Fighter IV Tournament Thread
Post by: Enl on August 04, 2009, 06:55:43 PM
Enl vs Bacchus 0-2

First match: Chun-li (Enl) vs Claw (Bacchus) (1-3)
Second match: Dictator (Enl) vs Claw (Bacchus) (2-3)

And with that I am done with SFIV for the time being. Back to KoF!

Great games Bacchus! I was never good against decent Vegas. That Bison match was pretty close but you read my moves all too well.

Toonami and I just finished playing. He mains some pretty unfortunate characters for vega match-ups. Beat his Gen 3-0 or 3-1, can't remember, then beat his Rose 3-0.

Well, it's at its end now!  Damn that took fucking forever.   :lol

Lyte Edge Vs. Bacchus7
-----------------------
THE SEMI FINAL MATCH
-----------------------

Lyte Edge wins, 2-0!

-----------------------

Match Breakdown:

Match 1:
I was Chun (almost went with Cammy) and Bacchus picked Vega.  I was fearful going in, since Bacchus has been on a roll, schooling everybody with his Claw.  I basically tried to do my best to shut down his air game with lots of air throws and jumping HKs, and then get close and keep the pressure on when on the ground.  Bacchus took the first round, but then I came back after that and won the first match, 3-1.

Match 2: The rematch; again I almost picked Cammy since Bacchus immediately went for Vega and I thought he might have had something up his sleeve.  This match pretty much went the same as the last one, and I kept the pressure on to win the match 3-0.

I think the key to my winning was getting enough ground throws and air throws in on him, baiting his somersault flip kicks, and getting in some overhead flip kick into EX lightning legs off on him.  Bacchus still got plenty off my life bar every round and there were no matches that were won with more than 25-30% life left.

-----------------------

Now it's time for the finals!  Rematch time against RoboJ!

THE CHAMP IS HERE!

-----------------------
Lyte Edge Vs. RoboJ
-----------------------
THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
-----------------------
WINNERS' BRACKET CHAMP VERSUS LOSERS' BRACKET CHAMP
-----------------------

***RoboJ*** wins, 2-0!

-----------------------

Match Breakdown:

Match 1:
I went with trusty ol' Chun, and RoboJ brought out his awesome, crafty, adaptable Dictator (M. Bison)!  This was a rematch from the final in the winners' bracket, where I was sent to the losers' brackets after a beating from Robo.  Pretty much went the same way as our last battle; Robo was very careful about doing a lot of air stuff, and pretty much shut me down.  I tried doing a few things differently, but ultimately went down, 1-3.

Match 2: This is where things got HEATED!  It started out with RoboJ just crushing my Chun (again) for two rounds straight, but I didn't want the final battle to end like that and came back in the third and fourth rounds!  We fought a hard battle in the final round, and it came down to both of us having around 20% life remaining, but in the end, Robo got me (2-3) with some very aggressive, smart tactics and took the crown to become the first-ever BORE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT STREET FIGHTER CHAMPION!

Congrats again on your victory, you earned it with your incredible Dictator game!   :D

--------------------------

I'd like to thank everyone who took part in this tournament!  I had a blast, and I hope you all did too!   :)  It was sad that we had three players drop out, although in Originalz' case, he was leaving to go on a long vacation, and since he notified me in advance, no problems were had.  It sucks that Banuda Ultra and Jehuty had to be DQ'd, however.  I never did get any messages from them afterward, and haven't seen any message board posts from them (on their site) since early July.  If we do another tournament, I hope the next one will be able to be finished much quicker.   :lol

The final break down:

1. RoboJ
2. Lyte Edge
3. Bacchus 7

5. Enl
5. Beezy
5. Archie 4208
5. Ch1nchila

6. Jehuty (Disqualified)
6. Banuda Ultra (Disqualified)
7. Tiesto
7. Rman

Good games, everyone!
