Okay, I bought some malt vinegar and went to McDonalds to get some fries.
Not bad, not bad.
Preferable to ketchup, which ruins the taste of the fries. Vinegar, however, enhances the taste. Especially if you throw enough on them to make the fries soggy.
It's especially delicious when you've got a decent amount of salt on the fries.
Not bad.
What does fries with mayo taste like? That can't possibly taste good?
-
went to McDonalds to get some fries.
Wtf. At least go to Burger King or something :lol
-
Try some good BBQ sauce.
It's great.
-
You need to get proper mayonnaise for chips.
-
mayo on fries is awesome. really horrible for you, but awesome.
-

McDonalds has the best fries though.
-
You need proper fries first! Thick cut fries (like from boardwalk fries, if they still have those, or Great Steak and Potato Company, 5 Guys, etc.) work best with malt vinegar. The kind with actual skins on them.
and mayo is good to dab on fries, but I prefer mixing mayo and ketchup together. I haven't done that in forever.
I like poutine too. I ate that shit up when I visited Toronto.
-
McDonald's fries are good for shoveling handfuls in your mouth, but that's about it. Just get some thick ones from the supermarket
-
What about wedges?
-
wtf? you dont use fast food fries when doing this fancy bullshit.
-
Wedges and sour cream :drool
-
wtf? you dont use fast food fries when doing this fancy bullshit.
Yes putting vinegar on fries is fancy ::)
-
You need to try it with some decent fries. You have a boardwalk fries or a five guys burgers nearby?
-
wtf? you dont use fast food fries when doing this fancy bullshit.
Yes putting vinegar on fries is fancy ::)
It's disgusting, like everything you Euro shitstains do.
-
What about wedges?
i guess that works...pretty much any potatoes + malt vinegar is good. but when you have nice thick french fries, it's best.
-
Just make some pink sauce with mayo and ketchup, its delicious and it sure as hell beat fucking vinegar.

-
Wouldnt Thousand Island be more appropriate?
-
I am intrigued by curry sauce on chips now. Might make some for dinner.

mayo on fries is awesome. really horrible for you, but awesome.
oil, egg, vinegar = mayonaisse is incredibly GOOD for you.
Maybe not the store bought stuff, but it's ridiculously easy to make if you have the above. If you meant the fries, on the other hand, i agree.

I was talking total fat/caloric content of fries and store-bought mayo. I have never heard of homemade mayo being good for you. I'll have to check it out.
We recently(ish) changed to the kraft olive oil mayo, which tastes far better than typical light mayo but has something like 1/3 the fat.
-
don't want to derail this by ranting about nutrition so i'll leave it here: i never eat low-fat anything.
-
I'd be willing to try olive oil mayo; sounds yummy. But malt vinegar on fries is my favorite.

Whatever, I don't share my pink sauce with nobody. :-*

I just threw up a little bit.
Vinegar = :yuck

I love Vinegar.
Salt + Vinegar = amazing
-
i used to wake up with a shot of apple cider vinegar in the morning. it's not too horrible, actually...like very acidic apple juice. and you wake up right the fuck away! I think i'll start doing that again...
-
I had just actually tried malt vinegar for the first time about a week ago, but it's definitely not for me. Dunno why I held off so long, probably because I don't tend to use regular vinegar that often.
-
Listen to the people Himuro, mcdonalds chips arent good for this and also its not fancy :P

We have a German deli/grocery store that sells curry ketchup. I know you can easily make it at home, but the stuff they sell is so much better.
-
curry ketchup?!
-
curry ketchup?!
Hell yeah curry ketchup!
There is this awesome German pub in Seattle called Feierabend that makes a killer schnitzel sandwich that has sweet hot mustard, apple slaw and curry ketchup on it. It also comes with pommes frites and curry ketchup.
:rock
-
Made some yesterday it was :drool
-
OMG Kosma that looks so good :drool

-
Were you drunk? Kurrywurst is only good when you're drunk. Also, malt vinegar with McDonalds fries? smh
Nah I just had home made thick cut chips with it- since we're becoming all connoisseurs :tophat
-
I can't believe there is a thread about malt vinegar and fries. Didn't you people grow up with fish and chips?
smh
-
Aurthur Treachers' fish and chips. :drool
Sadly they all closed down before I was 10. :'(

I've never gotten the hot mustard one... but wasn't there a honey one? I think I had some honey sauce back when I was a kid but sweet and sour has been the de facto dipping suace for anything McD's related.

Really? No fish and chips for you? Oh well.

I had this spicy curry on rice. It was amazing. It might have kickstarted my love of spicy food.
One European thing I don't get is mayonnaise. It sits heavy and even the texture of it kind of sickens me. Some dumbfuck on GAF thought that Americans were pretty only limited to Miracle Whip for mayonnaise. I can't even remember the last time I had miracle whip. Reminds me of American Cheese and Margarine: some kind of frankenstein concoction. If a fly doesn't want to eat it, I definitely should not eat it.
Regarding fish, if you don't live on the coasts or the great lakes area, it isn't that popular. Either get it flash freeze dried or pay $25 a pound for fresh fish.
-
weird, i had my first currywurst on Sunday at a bierfest. it did not come with fries sadly.
-
America's lack of curry love makes me sad. I got hooked on curry while I was in Australia as a wee lad back in 1989, and then ate it up like crazy during my time in England, Germany, India, Israel and Japan. We have some great Indian places here in Seattle, but still, the acceptance of curry into everyday cooking is nonexistant outside our household.
-
Does Long John Silver sell fish and chips?
I don't remember.

there's a place in chicago that serves french fry wedges with curry sauce. it's good shit.
and Himu- they have fish and they have fries...if I understand this alien euro-speak correctly, that counts as fish and chips.

Down in Cali there are tons of Indian places with decent all-you-can-eat lunch specials. Usually there's dhal and a few veggie curries that are quite nice.
:drool dhal
...but as for that curry ketchup stuff, I've never seen it.

We've got tons of Indian restaurants in Seattle, but I wish that curry was integrated into more dishes outside of Indian restaurants like I saw in Europe, Australia and Japan.

Long John Silver?
:wag
-
I am Indian and only know of it because there is a German guy at work here. Curry sausages and mashed potatoes is pretty good.
-

I hate fish and even I know the best Fish and Chips comes from your local Pizzeria/Grinder place. The ones around here do haddock (and only on Fridays).
-
Fish and Chips is incredibly easy to make, I was eating some this saturday.
-

Ah, yeah. Japan has the "curry doughnut" fried breads and the curry flavored Pringles, etc. Right. YUM. Curry caramel, not so much.
-
I've mostly ignored fish the majority of my life on purpose.
-
fish is pretty great though! Lox and cream cheese :drool
-
my parents' and other black people's obsession with fried catfish basically ruined any optimism I had for eating fish well into my adult years :-X
-
Yeah, Catfish is supposedly very :yuck . My personal history with fish has been mired by the smell of pan fried fish :-X
-
Same here. It's disgusting.
-
99.9% of catfish is mushy and tastes like dirt. Not a good way to get into eating fish.
