wtf, I never heard of this game but those are some good scores! When does this come out?
Right, let's get this out the way once and for all. Darksiders is nothing like God of War. Well, beyond the hitting things and the brightly coloured orbs, that is. And, perhaps, the gargantuan opponents, plus the vast array of weapon and ability upgrades. Okay, it's a little bit like God of War but far less than you probably think it is. There's no getting round the fact that THQ has struggled to paint Vigil Games' epic action adventure as anything beyond a knock-off of Sony's epic exclusive and that's unfortunate as Darksiders is so much more.
As you've probably heard already, a much more accurate comparison is Nintendo's Legend of Zelda series, although it's also fair to say that Vigil has cast its net pretty wide in the name of inspiration. There are plenty of quite open nods to the likes of Legacy of Kain (remember that?), Metroid and Shadow of Colossus too. What's impressive though is that, despite happily cribbing the best parts of videogames from the last decade, Darksiders is so expertly designed, it somehow never feels derivative and the result is a game that's vast, relentlessly imaginative and, above all else, hugely enjoyable.
Your first hour or so with the game might tell a different story though. In terms of scene-setting, it's a fairly uninspired blend of brown urban decay and repetitive button mashing that does little to quell unfavourable comparisons with other titles and certainly doesn't do the proceeding 15+ hours any justice. What that opening sprawl does do though is introduce you to the (very) basics of Darksiders' surprisingly robust fighting engine. While the game eventually opens up and starts doling out new weapons and increasingly elaborate moves in exchange for the souls you'll harvest from enemies along your travels, the actual mechanics of combat change very little throughout.
I wonder why there aren't more Zelda clones. With the decline of the Zelda franchise, it probably wouldn't be that hard to ape Zelda and make it better.
And the game seems to have been in development since like forever.

Joe Madureira.
Joe Madureira is the asshole who did a comic called Battle Chasers which I liked and he never finished because he was too fucking lazy and got addicted to playing video games (no joke).
Any word on differences between versions? Figured I'd make it the send-off game for the 360, but if it's that good it might be worth keeping around for the PS3.
I guess I'll take aliasing over tearing then.
:piss PS360 :piss2
Of course Europeans are going to say it's better on PS3.
True, but they are doing some neat things with the PS3 version that help fix some fuck ups with the system. Like, the game has a mandatory install that runs as you play the game, so no install screen or anything. It's just weird to see anyone put effort into the PS3, especially after Grin did that and it didn't exactly pay off for them.
I wish this was on PC, it looks fun!
One of our points to discuss (other than DLC) is a PC version. Originally we had one planned, then we changed our minds, then it came back, and then went again. As there's been a lot of people asking for a PC version, we need to confer with THQ if a PC would be beneficial to put out there.

haha pretty much.spoiler (click to show/hide)good luck getting 60 for darksiders :-\[close]
Don't worry. This game will flop hard. You'll probably find the game on clearance this month already.
No one knows it's coming. And the few that know will wait for Dante's Inferno or/and GoW3.
It's a shame. Darksiders is probably better than Dante's Inferno.
So is this actually good or awful, it seems verra polarizing
Not that I care, I've got ZENO CLASHHHHHHHH
I never said that. ???
so u can pirate it? lol.

Dude, you totally did. You were talking about how you pirated movies and anime, but you would never pirate video games because of your own interest in working for the industry.
Paying for something or downloading it for free
DECISIONS DECISIONS :rofl

Don't remember saying that. Either way, it's a stupid reason.
Do you have a dS? If so, get PoR.
If you don't have a DS, dl the rom for Aria of Sorrow. I know I rarely ever accept piracy, but when wanting to try something out just to see what it's like, I suggest that move highly.
In fact, that's how I got into CV. I randomly dled AoS and got hooked.
I DON'T PIRATE GAMES
Option 2. I only pirate music and anime. If they're good I'll buy them. However, if I really really like something, like Radiohead...I already know I don't need to pirate in order to know it's good, I'll like it either way.
Only buy, never pirate.
Eh. I'm mixed on it, I rarely ever pirate myself to tell you the truth but when I do it's to try something out and in many cases I'll actually buy the game I pirated. I love games too much to pirate. For things like music, yeah I'm going to pirate because I really don't see myself spending 20 dollars on a cd too often. For games, I usually get my money's worth so I do my best to support the companies and games I cherish.
How much do you think it'll cost when it bombs?

Ignorance of 2nd hand game pricing = pirate confirmed
I'm buying this on PS3, and can only speak of whatever flaws that version has. Give me 12 or so hours to pick it up and try it out. All I've read was that the tearing is terrible in the 360 version and there is none on the PS3 version. No one speaks about the frame rate, so maybe that sucks on the PS3.
I'm playing the X360 version and the tearing is really bad. The worst tearing I've ever seen in a game.
But there's a patch coming out for the X360 version. It'll probably fix the tearing issues.
I guess the embargo for reviews with scores under 8.0 is up

Veteran gamers will want to crank the difficulty on this game.
What is Darksiders? Think God of War meets The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and you'll have a pretty good idea of what it's like.
...Though it's not as good as either of those games
I was hyped because it came out nowhere. I've heard about this game one week ago lol.I'm sure its probably a decent to good game. Who doesn't like the sound of Zelda meets God of War. There just seems to always be a pattern with this type of gamer hype thing trying to manufacture a hidden gem rather than just letting the process happen naturally.
like a Force Unleashed quality action game.
like a Force Unleashed quality action game.
:-\
That's mega discouraging to me.
Where are you currently at in the game, Wrika?
I don't think the game is boring at all, so far...
But I can understand that some people might find this boring. You basically do the same shit again and again.
And I got randomly attacked by some weird skeleton with an accent today. I thought he was a npc I could talk to, so I approached him. The bitch just attacked be. I beat him up of course but he suddenly teleported to another place I guess.
Looks like some secret boss. I wonder where I'll encounter him next. He sounded pretty funny.
So the game is good besides the screen tearing and framerate? That's good, maybe I'll pick this up since they're going to release a patch to help curb these issues.
Oh wow that's lame.
At least I know now why he ran away lol
And yeah, the character has a tiny head. I don't understand this phenomenon in games. Bayonetta also has a needle head.
Yeah, I like that there are no QTE's in battles. I really hate those in GOW. But the combat system in GOW is much more refined and has better animation. The fighting in Darksiders gets boring pretty fast and is really simple. You basically just use the X button all the time.
the combat is at the very least on par with god of bore. hell i'd say it's even better since you only get a single button prompt for a finishing move allowing you to see the cool kill animation without distraction.
Fucking Blockbusters only had the 360 version
So I got Bayonetta instead
True story
Darksiders feels a hell of a lot more like Soul Reaver than Zelda to me.

yup. it's very linear, with no real overworld and only occasional backtracking. it is straight up soul reaver 2.
I don't get the overwhelmingly positive reaction to this game. I get why someone might like it. It's not broken, it looks sort of alright at times if very rarely, there are monsters and you beat them, and whatnot. It's blah, but it's functional blah. But I don't get how such a large group of people can be passionate about it. Is it just Zelda blueballs?
I'm at the end of the game (Destroyer) but I'm using guides to clean up the collecting beforehand.
Some chests are hidden to. So if they show on your map and you don't see them, you have to do something like destory all the hydrants in Crossroads for example.
the upper left champion artifact is located in the area that leads from the choking grounds to the broken stair.
You could, you know, buy it and support an original IP. :P
:teeheeYou could, you know, buy it and support an original IP. :P
That's pushing it.
I thought everyone was saying the worlds are pretty? I didn't like the screenshots, but this gen screenshots are almost worthless.Eh, some areas look pretty good actually, but the game just has a very unpolished feel. It definitely grows on you, though.
I didn't mention it because Saint's Row 2 sucked and was ugly. You hate everything good

I downloaded the demo and my impressions were the same as Himu's.Same here. Plus I got motion sickness for some reason. I shouldn't be getting that in a 3rd person game. Is it because of the framerate?
Was always a rental imo. A few early high reviews come out and people hop on something like it's the new hot shit.
I got an xbox live message from somebody when I logged on trying to pimp the game.
Why do you say it's a B-level game? It's pretty muck reeking of quality across the board, except that it's not particularly original. And if we ding them for that, everything EA produces is B-level.
I can't wait for the sequel. Darksiders is pretty much the culmination of everything my teenage self thought was bad ass in the late 90s. It works out because my tastes haven't changed. It's bloody, loud, excessive, and a blast to play. The voice acting is top notch. Ole Volgim is probably my favorite character. Plus it gets bonus points for having Mark Hamill in its cast.
PC version is $5 on THQ store this weekend, activates on Steam:

This game is motherfucking METAL! The combat is fast, exciting, thrilling, fun and awesome. The story, the themes, the art style, shiiiiit everything tickles my fetishes. If they can somehow add black leather longcoats to it I'd be cumming even more often.
