Japan shocked at this revelation.

The editorializing over this here has been absolutely ludicrous. Yeah, the kid is a punk. But try finding an elite snowboarder who doesn't dress like this, at least in their free time. He's a young kid who will likely go back to obscurity for the next 4 years after the Olympics; let him enjoy playing the star in front of the world's media while he can. Shaun White won gold wearing baggy jeans!

The Japanese have never been too big on swagger...
:japancry
-
At least they don't wear $400 jeans that are so tight you can't even walk in them.
-
I GUESS Shaun White would be obscure if you didnt follow Snowboarding...
-
Baggy jeans help you snowboard better.
Yeah dude, woooooooo! :sonic
-
he looks like the lead singer of Korn in that pic.
-
They are probably all stoned on BC budz too.
-
That young man needs a good spankin'.
-
I'm with the Japanese on this one. If you've been asked to represent your country at the Olympics, the least you can do is properly wear your uniform.
because snowboarding is soooooooooo serious.
-
not that it's got anything to do with my opinion on the topic but weightlifting. How's your clean & jerk? :smug

The first thing I thought about this thread.

Squating 260 lbs isn't exactly the feat of an olympian. :smug
265 :smug
Really, where are you going with this? I can't have an opinion on the Olympics until I've been on the podium? Have you thought this through?

I agree with the business. If you can't properly wear your uniform and represent your nation, you should sod off. There are rules and regulations for a reason.
-
Yes, I understand that there are rules, and that he's representing his country. I understand that he's a punk.
But he DID show up in the uniform. And let's remember that pro snowboarders make most of their money by endorsing snowboarding gear with baggy-ass trousers. Looking the part is key to the kid's income. Looking like a square is going to kill his street cred. All he's doing is wearing something a bit more like what he wears in the actual competition!
If they want him to show up (with his talent), it behooves the Ski Association to compromise a bit on their regulations as well. You think Shaun White didn't get a great big whopping pass on what he wears while walking through the airport? Anyone tell him to get a haircut, do you think? If they want the top talent in an image-conscious sport, they should be prepared to deal with a little bit of scruff.
Business - haha, you're right, you weren't trying to invalidate my opinion IN THE LEAST with a dumb-ass ad hominem. And why would I take it personally that you think I'm a weakling! Clearly I am overreacting, being too serious and taking it all too personally. My bad! :smug

Maybe you guys should redirect your excess gym horniness away from each other.

and toward...? :-*

I gotta go and work out for a while first. :-[

I got your workout right here, baby :-*
-
I'm ready for high reps and long sets. :hump
-
snowboarding pants have to be big to fit over the boots
also those arent jeans they just look like it
-
I want a pair of them.
-
Exactly. It's the Olympics and during the games you're not just an athlete, you're an ambassador.
Hogwash. If that were true they'd be selected in part based on pageants to show who could project the best image, or (if we're talking about actual ambassadors) based on their large campaign contributions to their nation's ruling party.

He did so, saying he was "reflecting on" the way he had dressed, but managed to worsen the furore by sarcastically dragging his words out.
The Ski Association of Japan reacted furiously and wanted to put Kokubo, who is competing in the half-pipe competition, on the first plane back to Japan.
Sounds like he was about the half-pipe and a full bowl.
