Yea someone leaks it from PartnerNet (or maybe even an early review code) and then it spreads. That is how Sonic 4 got around.

To be fair only JTAG Xboxes can play it. Regular people who just have a flashed firmware can't.

You should probably wait until just wishing does it for you.

In a similar manner, I'm waiting until just wishing will prevent them from blocking hacked xboxes. Which I assume is never.

you'll need a jtag x360 if you want to pirate xbla/dlc stuff. it's a x360 that hasnt been upgraded past a certain dashboard version (sometime during 2009 i think?)

So those look suspiciously like non-transferable 'cheevs. I'd been mis-remembering these as 'cheevs that transfer over to the main story, but I must have been thinking of Crackdown 2.

This is an XBLA title based on the same engine/gameplay, but with no other save-file connection to DR2 such as outfits, advantages, equipment?
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: iconoclast on August 30, 2010, 09:56:50 PM
All I know for sure is the character level transfers over to DR2. The achievements aren't shared though, this game has its own set since it's technically an XBLA game. It's kinda like Fable 2 + Fable 2 Pub Games in that regard (I guess, I've never played pub games).
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: The Sceneman on August 30, 2010, 10:06:23 PM
yep it's just like Pub Games. Own set of cheevs, but transferable levels and 'combo' items. It's an awesome idea, it means you get more achievements! :hyper

And of course you get a taste of DR2 a month early.

Hey, has anyone seen any reviews for Case 0 yet? I mean its out tomorrow...

Man I just owned myself real bad. After reading demi's comment I realised I share the exact same sentiment as him!

distinguished mentally-challenged fellow reviewers docked points off DR1 for the save system, becuase they totally missed the friggn point of the game. The save system was awesome becuase it owned you if you sucked. I hate people so much.

This game is amazing, and I only watched the first cutscene. Right away you feel that connection to Katey. Here is a father just trying to be with the possibily only thing he has in this destroyed city (or world). Doing whatever he can to survive for him and her.

Chuck also sounds badass. And he doesnt have a bulky jew nose.

Um... I guess I'd say it's on par with the first. I found the Gas Can for the bike outside the Gas Station.

Weapons I've made:

Bucket + Drill = Drill Bucket (put on Zombies head)
Nail + Bat = Nailbat
Nail + Propane = I.E.D
Rake + Battery = Electric Rake (I saw this in the Pawn Shop so I just assumed it was able to be created)

What would you change given the chance?

I mean honestly I wouldn't change anything. If people like the way it feels then that should serve that audience rather than me. I just don't like how deliberate and animated the game feels sometimes. I don't feel like I have great control over my character like in some other action games. It's like that early boss fight in the first one while you are shooting at that guy in the food court and it just feels awful.

I get that is kind of the point. To not make it like Ninja Gaiden or something and instead have a different feel especially with all those weapons and things in the environment to interact with. But I find myself frustrated when they set up the boss battles and such. But for what its worth I did enjoy that trial demo like I said. The first Dead Rising was always a game I wanted to like but didn't. But there were other reasons for that. So I'm hoping DR 2 fixes a lot of my quibbles. I definitely can enjoy a game even if the controls aren't great or my cup of tea so I hope I will enjoy DR 2.

This game is awesome but I'm surprised by how rough it is.  Dead Rising 1 came out around four years ago and I don't remember it being this choppy.

Is there a drink mix and weapon creation tool yet? I remember hearing in an old E3 demo that flashlight plus something makes a lightsaber.

loading times are also crazy.  People were saying it was because the guy in the video was skipping cutscenes.  Just going to the roof feels like a minute.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

It's not bad, but I'm not loving it either.  The framerate is freaking low when there's a lot of zombies around, the loading is kinda hmmmm, and you move so slooooow at first.  Also too much cutscenes at the start when you just want to get zombie killing.

But beating up zombies with stuff is fun.  And there's lots of stuff to beat them up with.  And even in the Case Zero there's a lot of little places to explore.  Graphics are pretty decent besides the framerate.  I like that they still kept the time urgency of the game and the bathroom saving.

Still on the fence about the lead guy though.  He's so boring compared to "I've covered wars" Frank West.  And no photography is sucky.

Actually thinking about picking this up now.  Might Day 1 it on PC because 60fps >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the framerate in Case Zero.  Hope it's a smooth running port.  Is the PC version going to be GFWL so you get achievements?  Achievements were half the fun in Dead Rising.

I've played through Case Zero now twice and it's a lot of fun. As someone who played through Dead Rising and never came back due to the horrible saving, I was happy to see it asking if I wanted to save after certain events but not all!

I was on the fence and didn't want to pay full retail for the game but if its like Case Zero It'll be a must buy for me. I love the electric rake and the chainsaw paddle's.

Just beat this. Pretty good game aside from all the technical problems. Awful framerate (so bad it was starting to give me a headache), texture pop-in, clipping, etc. Clearly, this is no Framework game. But still, I really liked it. Looks like DR2 will be a worthy successor, so I'll be there day one. Just hope it runs a lot better than this.

Also, the credits were kinda interesting. It looks like Capcom has their own small set of producers and game designers working on the game, so that is very reassuring.

Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: iconoclast on August 31, 2010, 08:28:14 PM
I know. I wish it was though, because that's pretty much the best engine this generation. Capcom has to learn to share.

Oh, and is it just me or do zombies not grab the survivors any more? Whenever I was escorting someone, not once did they get grabbed by a zombie. I just ran to the safe room and they were always right behind me. Protecting the survivors was part of the fun in the original, so I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: The Sceneman on August 31, 2010, 08:36:58 PM
One of the main criticisms of the first game was how frustrating a lot of people found the escorting to be, I guess they made it a bit more forgiving
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: BobFromPikeCreek on August 31, 2010, 08:50:45 PM
Are the zombies less aggressive to survivors, or do survivors just avoid them better? Because as much as I loved DR 1, the survivors made some dumb fucking choices. Like diving head first into giant zombie pits instead of following me.
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: iconoclast on August 31, 2010, 08:58:26 PM
The zombies are still aggressive toward the survivors, but it seems like they can fight them off better. I even ran through a whole crowd of zombies with multiple survivors behind me and no one ever got grabbed or anything. Might just be a fluke though; going to play through it one or two more times at least to get the rest of these achievements.

I like that the AI has better pathfinding and it seems like they can protect themselves better, but on the flip side of the coin it seems like the zombies don't pose much of a threat to them, and that's no fun.
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: iconoclast on September 01, 2010, 02:26:13 AM
Just got 200/200 on this. :spin

FYI, the zombies can grab the survivors still, it just almost never happens. One of the survivors was stuck in a crowd of zombies before I got to him, but after he joined my party, I pressed Y a few times, ran off, and he came running over to me in no time. Doesn't seem like protecting the survivors is going to be a big deal, which is kinda lame.

Game is still pretty awesome anyway. Wish I pre-ordered it from newegg the other day when it was $48.

Man, the graphics engine is so bad.  MT Framework was way ahead even back in 2006 (and now it's not even close).

It's missing all of the standard visual effects you get with an MT Framework game while failing to deliver reasonable performance.  It's just bad.

The PC version might save the game, but I'm not even convinced these guys are going to be able to deliver a competent PC port.

He's right. This game is uglier than the last one. Maybe the on-disc one will be better.

I don't mind how the game looks.  My issue is just how choppy it gets.  I remember one thing they were talking up was more zombies on screen so that could be slowing it down.  Not like there weren't a bunch of zombies in the first game.

Why is the strong attack so fucking easy to trigger? I just want to swing my way through a crowd, I don't need to snap into the same cinematic kill every 2 seconds.

Blame the slanty gremlins for not sharing. Though this looks above MT Framework. Sorry it doesnt have that silly visual blur effect.

It only takes between 2-3 good runs to get 200. The achievements aren't hard. You'll be replaying anyway to hit Level 5 for Chuck
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: iconoclast on September 01, 2010, 01:00:31 PM
Yeah, I did it in 2 runs and started another one to quickly get 1000 kills. You can do it in 2 runs though, I didn't look at a guide or anything for my first playthrough.

You could probably get all 12 achievements in one run actually, but you'd have to know where everything is and really haul ass.

Just wait for it to end and you can restart the story with whatever level you are. Just like the first game.

You might not even need to wait for it to end actually; on the screen where you select which file you want to load, I think you can press X to restart the story. Not sure if you need to beat it first or anything though.

yeah from what I can tell making a weapon upgrades the cards... I had a Drill Bucket scratch card and made one on a bench. I then had the combo card, and now earn 500PP for kill as opposed to 250.

I'm willing to bet that the final product will have a lot more polish, as it's been in development for so long.

i thought it was pretty much agree'd upon that the boss fights where the worst thing about Dead Rising. right?

they just aren't fun. some of them require you to use the (really bad) shooting mechanics. and they break up the flow of the game. i see it as, they designed the game around you needing to kill zombies. they didn't design it around fighting enemies with some form of AI that fights back.

i understand that I guess this is the established format for this series but I originally played Dead Rising so I could do the following:

1.) Kill Zombies

I don't want to be fighting stupid cartoon characters like clowns, fat dudes in a grocery store, prisoners in a jeep, or this dumb enemy you fight at the end of this, some guy with a rake and a shotgun (?).

Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: demi on September 02, 2010, 06:18:01 PM
The bosses are in fact NOT the worst part of Dead Rising, they are awesome and add to the overall flavor of the JAP quirk. It is the braindead AI when escorting survivors.

The only thing left I gotta do in this is spend 100,000 at the pawn shop and I could knock that out right now if I wanted to but I want to see if the money carries over to DR2 as well as your stats.  If it does, I'll just leave it alone......maybe.

I liked Case Zero though. A lot more than I thought I would.  Sure it's uglier than before and it doesn't appear to running anywhere near as smooth as the first but it's still a lot of fun to play.  I'll be there when they release DR2.

Capcom is happy to announce that its recently released downloadable title, Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO, has broken all records on Xbox LIVE with the best week one unit sales in the history of all content distributed through Xbox LIVE Arcade. The prologue to the highly-anticipated Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO, launched last week as a unique piece of downloadable content exclusively for Xbox LIVE Arcade. A standalone title that helps bridge the gap between the original Dead Rising and the soon-to-be-released Dead Rising 2, it allows fans a taste of the new Dead Rising world on Xbox 360.

The unique prologue experience gives gamers a glimpse of what’s to come in Dead Rising 2 as it includes new combo weapons; your first look at survivors and a psycho; an introduction to new protagonist, Chuck Greene and his daughter Katey and a system that allows you to carry your character attributes collected in Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO into the main game.

Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO is now available exclusively to download on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Dead Rising 2 will launch on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on September 28, 2010. If J-boritos are curious, I tried downloading tonight: the IP-based lockout is still in effect.

So, to sum up: Capcom launches the game, but locks out Japan to prevent Japanese speakers from downloading the English version and maybe being confused.

Capcom launches the Japanese version of the game; the game is now available in each territory. Unless you're a US account user who is physically in the Japan territory. In which case, no dice. Good jon, capcum!

Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: chronovore on September 15, 2010, 12:08:04 PM
Ooh, I bet that's it. There's no beheading allowed in Japanese games. That makes more sense for the lockout; Capcom would get in trouble with its own government.

Probably not, no. But that's why I said send a USB stick/memory card. He can download it there and you should (should) be able to play it as long as you are logged on Live (since its purchased on their console, you would need to do license transfer)

Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero

Violence is as abundant as sex here, where media is concerned. There was an incident about 13 years ago where a mentally disturbed 11-year-old student's head was put on display in the front of his school. When they caught the killer, he also turned out to only be 14.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seito_Sakakibara

This caused a moral panic about media depicting violence, and videogames depicting decapitation are either outright forbidden, or given the Z-rating. I think it's the former; Dead Rising 1 is a z-rated game, and it probably doesn't feature beheading in the J-version.

Just think Chronovore. If this were on PS3 you could have bought the UNCUT, UNEDITED version of Case Zero off the NA psn.

Thankfully disc games are region free so you could import the NA ps3 version! UNCUT!

Yeah, well, that would also involve turning on my PS3 which never happens.

I'm going to get the US version of it when it launches, no problem. It's the weird hobbles they put in place on downloadables that frustrates me.

No Xune movies, Netflix, Last.fm, some games... even stuff I purchased a license for prior to the IP lockout doesn't work anymore, after they repaired my mobo. It claims to be licensed to a different profile even if I use my Download History to re-get it.

Chrono, I don't know much about this stuff but couldn't you bypass the block by using a VPN? Or does MS have a way to block those too?
Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero
Post by: chronovore on September 17, 2010, 12:31:55 AM
Thanks for that thought; it had occurred to me as well: It's possible I could use The Onion Router to spoof my IP to purchase it through the xbox.com site's Marketplace, but I don't have the foggiest idea how I'd do that for the 360 itself. If I paid for it and then the IP check still blocked the 360 from downloading a valid purchase, I'd go postal.
I've been told a means of doing it at the router level, but pfffffehhhh...

Capcom will not be releasing the IP block, I'm SOL, end of story. I'll just buy the disc version and be satisfied.

Wait...I thought Case Zero was coming out in Japan, albeit censored?

Just think Chronovore. If this were on PS3 you could have bought the UNCUT, UNEDITED version of Case Zero off the NA psn.

Not necessarily.  Resistance 1 was censored on Japanese PS3s no matter which version you bought.  No blood, no hero moments or whatever they were called.  I remember there was a hacked save that put the blood back in, but not the hero stuff AFAIK.

Also for those wondering about downloading outside Japan and then bringing it back into the country, I'm pretty sure you'd get a region lockout message preventing you from playing it.  A few years back, MS changed Live to start doing this.  I used to be able to download American TV shows off their marketplace, and then one day after an update I couldn't watch them anymore and got a message saying they weren't valid in my region.  When I moved back to the U.S., they worked again.

Title: Re: DR2 Case Zero

I was pretty ass-backward in the way I've gone about this, but: In January I was in the USA, brought my USB stick and Gamertag, bought points, and then purchased these on my brother's-in-law 360. Now, nearly a year later, I'm getting around to playing this.

If I'd had this before DR2, Case Zero would have made me so :hyper for getting the full version. What a fantastic, bite-sized chunk of dead-rising-ness, playable in a couple hours, showing all the basics, but keeping a number of minutiae out of the picture. It's a very solidly designed game, with an entirely different sense of place than Fortune City (and Willamette, for that matter).

I thought I was doing really well, and was about to potentially finish the game in my first playthrough, with Chuck at Level 1, when I noticed that there were only moments to get back to Katie. As I'm running back to the gas station safehouse, I notice another Case is flashing red, "Above the Law," and I don't remember even receiving it. Holy crap, I'm doomed!

I get Katie her Zombrex, and it shifts to a cutscene for the town's psycho battle. I'd been messing around and only had one health pip left. Oh, crap I'm double-doomed!

In the end, I got him down to 1/2 health, but I ended up getting a shotgun pitchfork to the gut. DOOMED! :lol

I started over, was way, way ahead of where I was last time.

Man, I loves me some Dead Rising.

I'm 650 zombies away from having a perfect 200/200 gamerscore out of this. Probably just going to restart and use the wheelbarrow, since it's indestructible. First I'll give the Queens a shot though. It may be fast enough, since the blockade gives about 50 kills per Queen.

This game was fun, start to finish. People made fun of it for being a "non-free demo," but clearly a lot of work went into it. It's fantastic.

the wheelbarrow and the moose horns will get you that cheev in minutes

Thanks, yeah. I actually got the first 200 in this last run using the wheelbarrow, after noticing that it was not taking ANY damage, unlike every other weapon in the game. By the time I had wrapped up the other cheevs, I was 40% of the way there, so I wrapped up the last bit just using Queens, broadswords, and nailbats.

Good times.

200/200!
