The Cons

    * Unforgiving time limit discourages exploration

You're not supposed to be running around aimlessly... talk to the hillbilly on top of the building and he'll point you to new survivors to rescue.

PS. Do Gemini's quest ASAP.

This game is awesome but I'm surprised by how rough it is.  Dead Rising 1 came out around four years ago and I don't remember it being this choppy.

Is there a drink mix and weapon creation tool yet? I remember hearing in an old E3 demo that flashlight plus something makes a lightsaber.

loading times are also crazy.  People were saying it was because the guy in the video was skipping cutscenes.  Just going to the roof feels like a minute.

Hmmmmmmmmmm

It's not bad, but I'm not loving it either.  The framerate is freaking low when there's a lot of zombies around, the loading is kinda hmmmm, and you move so slooooow at first.  Also too much cutscenes at the start when you just want to get zombie killing.

But beating up zombies with stuff is fun.  And there's lots of stuff to beat them up with.  And even in the Case Zero there's a lot of little places to explore.  Graphics are pretty decent besides the framerate.  I like that they still kept the time urgency of the game and the bathroom saving.

Still on the fence about the lead guy though.  He's so boring compared to "I've covered wars" Frank West.  And no photography is sucky.

Actually thinking about picking this up now.  Might Day 1 it on PC because 60fps >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> the framerate in Case Zero.  Hope it's a smooth running port.  Is the PC version going to be GFWL so you get achievements?  Achievements were half the fun in Dead Rising.

I've played through Case Zero now twice and it's a lot of fun. As someone who played through Dead Rising and never came back due to the horrible saving, I was happy to see it asking if I wanted to save after certain events but not all!

I was on the fence and didn't want to pay full retail for the game but if its like Case Zero It'll be a must buy for me. I love the electric rake and the chainsaw paddle's.

Just beat this. Pretty good game aside from all the technical problems. Awful framerate (so bad it was starting to give me a headache), texture pop-in, clipping, etc. Clearly, this is no Framework game. But still, I really liked it. Looks like DR2 will be a worthy successor, so I'll be there day one. Just hope it runs a lot better than this.

Also, the credits were kinda interesting. It looks like Capcom has their own small set of producers and game designers working on the game, so that is very reassuring.

I know. I wish it was though, because that's pretty much the best engine this generation. Capcom has to learn to share.

Oh, and is it just me or do zombies not grab the survivors any more? Whenever I was escorting someone, not once did they get grabbed by a zombie. I just ran to the safe room and they were always right behind me. Protecting the survivors was part of the fun in the original, so I'm not sure how I feel about that.

One of the main criticisms of the first game was how frustrating a lot of people found the escorting to be, I guess they made it a bit more forgiving

Are the zombies less aggressive to survivors, or do survivors just avoid them better? Because as much as I loved DR 1, the survivors made some dumb fucking choices. Like diving head first into giant zombie pits instead of following me.

The zombies are still aggressive toward the survivors, but it seems like they can fight them off better. I even ran through a whole crowd of zombies with multiple survivors behind me and no one ever got grabbed or anything. Might just be a fluke though; going to play through it one or two more times at least to get the rest of these achievements.

I like that the AI has better pathfinding and it seems like they can protect themselves better, but on the flip side of the coin it seems like the zombies don't pose much of a threat to them, and that's no fun.

Just got 200/200 on this. :spin

FYI, the zombies can grab the survivors still, it just almost never happens. One of the survivors was stuck in a crowd of zombies before I got to him, but after he joined my party, I pressed Y a few times, ran off, and he came running over to me in no time. Doesn't seem like protecting the survivors is going to be a big deal, which is kinda lame.

Game is still pretty awesome anyway. Wish I pre-ordered it from newegg the other day when it was $48.

Man, the graphics engine is so bad.  MT Framework was way ahead even back in 2006 (and now it's not even close).

It's missing all of the standard visual effects you get with an MT Framework game while failing to deliver reasonable performance.  It's just bad.

The PC version might save the game, but I'm not even convinced these guys are going to be able to deliver a competent PC port.

I don't mind how the game looks.  My issue is just how choppy it gets.  I remember one thing they were talking up was more zombies on screen so that could be slowing it down.  Not like there weren't a bunch of zombies in the first game.

Why is the strong attack so fucking easy to trigger? I just want to swing my way through a crowd, I don't need to snap into the same cinematic kill every 2 seconds.

Blame the slanty gremlins for not sharing. Though this looks above MT Framework. Sorry it doesnt have that silly visual blur effect.

Yeah, I did it in 2 runs and started another one to quickly get 1000 kills. You can do it in 2 runs though, I didn't look at a guide or anything for my first playthrough.

You could probably get all 12 achievements in one run actually, but you'd have to know where everything is and really haul ass.

Just wait for it to end and you can restart the story with whatever level you are. Just like the first game.

You might not even need to wait for it to end actually; on the screen where you select which file you want to load, I think you can press X to restart the story. Not sure if you need to beat it first or anything though.

yeah from what I can tell making a weapon upgrades the cards... I had a Drill Bucket scratch card and made one on a bench. I then had the combo card, and now earn 500PP for kill as opposed to 250.

I'm willing to bet that the final product will have a lot more polish, as it's been in development for so long.

At least I'm hoping thats the case. I can live with the framerate but it should really be a bit smoother, like the first game.
