This is breaking news just coming in as I type this, emanating from the Twitter account of GAINAX's Yasuhiro Takeda, but it appears that the renowned and much-admired anime director Satoshi Kon passed away today at the age of 47.
During his life, Kon was responsible for a numer of high-profile animated efforts featuring his distinctive themes and styles, not least the movies Perfect Blue and Paprika, as well as the Paranoia Agent television series.
I'm sure it goes without saying that Satoshi Kon's influence will be immensely missed by anime fans around the world, and our thoughts go out to his friends and family with this tragic news.
Did he work on Final Fantasy?:rofl
I don't care for Tokyo Godfathers, but the rest of his output is so incredibly well done that it doesn't matter.
haha you mother fucker
It's going to be sad watching his new film in theaters :(
I was hoping it was that Beetrain guy who did Noir and .hack.

Koichi Mashimo? We can only dream.
Oh god RIP. At this point I'm seriously afraid Mr. Miyamoto will die this year, and I don't think I could handle that
Will be ordering Tokyo Godfathers from netflix to watch in tribute.

In the anime thread there is discussion about a show where school girls play pop music and another where a guy fires bullets that travel between a teenager's bouncing breasts. Then I read this news about someone extremely talented, who was still putting out excellent material, dying at a relatively early age. Time to jump ship on this hobby.
