its not the kind of game where something might happen.
you're the one that makes stuff happen.
mine and craft
I had to buy this for someone because they dont have a paypal account... but they gave me a 1600pt card in return. So it was about $5 profit.
I still feel dirty about it.

Do objects like that just disappear permanently on screwups like that?

You can play it for free, I guess. Don't know what the benefit of not paying for it is, yet.

You can save your game, play the 'game' mode (where you have to gather resources and fend off zombies) and play multiplayer.
I can save my game as a non-premium member.
is this like animal crossing were everyone is amazed by the fact that they can stand on their ass doing nothing?

This is probably one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. I haven't stopped playing since I made that last post. Help me
Addictive indie computer game Minecraft was knocked off it's little block wheels yesterday apparently by a group of self-identifying disenfranchised Minecraft players demanding more updates from the game's creator.
Developer Notch writes that the game's servers are getting hammered by a distributed denial of service, or DDOS, attack.
"A real world example would be running up to the cashier at a super market and paying in small coins, counting every single one really slowly, then finding out at the end you didn't have enough in the first place," Notch wrote on his Tumblr today. "The "Distributed" means it's done from a lot of places at the same time, so it's much harder to simply deny access to the clients that do that. Usually this is done via computers infected with trojans, so people participate in this without even knowing they're doing it.
"As to why minecraft.net is being targeted, I'm not sure."
A post on 4chan claiming responsibility for the attack says that the group launched the DDOS because they want more updates from Notch. They also point out they are not active 4chan members or people from rival games.
Here's the full statement. Do keep in mind we have no way of knowing whether these really are the people behind the ongoing attack.QuoteMinecraft is currently experiencing a stimulation provided by us.
It's purpose is to send Notch a clear message of how the future of minecraft will turn out unless he gets to work, namely by influencing the amount of sales taking place, due to the attacks.
Start providing your customers with the updates that you promise them.
We have roughly 83,000 bots available, and preserved for this seizure, we could if we wanted to keep this going for weeks, however we have decided to give it a week, and see whether or not your attitude, and commitment will change, we believe it will when money stops rolling in for the time being...
anyhow, no we're not from roblox, or any other minecraft clone, not to mention none of us have been around 4chan for years, and nor has any real 4channers for that matter, its all newfags now, and has been for quite a few years."
Is the official quote. I don't know the origin of the quote, but it is happening.
If I was him, I'd just shut it down.

This is the only game I can think of that I have no interest in playing, but I love seeing what people can do with it.
I can't even wrap my head around the rationale at work here.

You can't understand aspergers, it just is what it is.
I have the same problem with this game that I have with level editors in games. I have all this creative vision, but when I try to execute it it looks like a pile of shit, I get disheartened, and I lose interest.+1
So what do you do when this is finished?
So what do you do when this is finished?
DUnno. The inside of the house is way too cramped, I didn't build it high enough and it has 2 floors with a fucking tree growing through the middle. I guess I'll build a new house?

I have to tell you, Gillo, I love that avatar so goddamn much, even back when it was being used on GAF (not sure if it was by you or someone else). What the hell is the origin of it?
And so do stairs now. They will never auto-turn ever again!
With Beta comes a larger focus on polish and content, and we’ll start early on with adding proper modding support with a stable API, and we’d love all input we can get on this from the modders out there. We’ll also add some kind of non-intrusive narrative to the game to help drive the game experience early on, and to provide some kind of late game goal. There will be a bigger focus on testing and stability as well, with more time between updates.
When the game enters beta, the price will rise to 14.95 Euro.
We will also change the license to remove the line that promises all future versions of the game for free. Please note that this change only affects people who buy the game after December 20, so if you got the game for during alpha, you will still get all future updates for free, despite this change. A promise is a promise.
Buying the game during beta will include all updates up until release, of course, and bug patches will be free.
Soon, you will be able to buy gift codes for Minecraft, perfectly timed for the holidays! Even better, if you buy those before December 20, accounts created from these codes will count as alpha accounts, and will receive all future updates for free.
And the next game update (with server-side inventory) is coming next week, before Beta

I have no interest in this "game" but I feel like I should buy a version now just in case
That's the risk I'm thinking of, but what it only ever appeals to them and never gets any better? I'm out like $15.
I'm so addicted now. :( Just got to the Nether. Feel like such a dork.
Oh god, I can play the alpha version in browser. I'm going to be playing this all day now. :'(
After putting some time into Minecraft, I've determined that there's two things I'd like to see added during the beta phase:
1. Towns with NPCs
2. Stats
I want mounts.
Cant see shit.
Beta today won't contain any noticeable game changes, but Notch is please to say that today broke the previous sales record. What a fucking dick.Really? Wow i was looking forward to actually seeing some new stuff.

I have 0 idea what your point is. The guy came up with a game, developed it himself, offered it at a 50% discount while in Alpha, added a zillion new features and your problem is .... ?
I don't know if this is common knowledge, but I just figured out a way to dupe. Load up a game, take something out of your chest and put it into your inventory, then ALT F4. The game saves the contents of your inventory but nothing else, so when you load the game back up the item is in your inventory still and back in the chest.

I'm gonna use this to make a house out of diamond blocks! :rock
You don't think it's slightly unethical to declare a date when the game would no longer be "free forever" or whatever and declare it in official beta,but not actually add any features, simply to increase sales of a game that's already made him millions of dollars? On top of that, the update actually broke the game (any items dropped out of inventory are duped online). Granted business ethics is an oxymoron but it just seems shady to me.
* Working server-side inventory! Finally! (And as a result of that, a whole pile of bugs and issues got fixed)
* Made SMP servers save chunks way less often in most cases. Chunks don’t resave if they got saved in the last 30 seconds
* Moving too far away from a container, or having it blow up, closes the inventory screen
* Fixed /kill
* Introduced leaf decay again. It acts differently from before
* You can now throw eggs
* On a whim, added super exclusive clan cloaks for Mojang Employees
* .. and something else, which is even more rare
Client 1.0_01 is up, fixing a double chest issue and a rare crash on load level bug.
There’s a serious problem getting the client started for some people (especially Mac OSX?). I’ve also heard about weird item duplication bugs with dropped items, and a severe performance reduction.
It’s 7:40 PM here, but I will work on these bugs tomorrow.
I’m also hoping to be able to squeeze in some fun for xmas.. Perhaps a new mob?
What's that on fire on the roof?
Something that also looks cool is suspending tree logs in air and burning them.
Wow, wicked flying house. Been thinking about doing that but it seems sooo tedious.
I just love exploration, and it sounds like it's got a ton of it, even if it's all procedurally generated.
Minecraft Beta 1.2 is live. All servers need to be updated to 1.2.
New features:
* Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
* 15 wool dyes
* A new water dwelling mob
* New tree types
* Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
* A bunch of new crafting recipes
* One secret useful block
* One secret pretty block
* Cake
* AND MOAR, probably. I forget!
Bugfixes:
* Paintings work in multiplayer
* Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
* A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer
* Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC
* Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
* Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
* Falling sand behaves better in SMP
* Fixed a few crash on load level bugs
Spiders climb walls now! :bawl
Dig like 25 blocks under the surface?
Dig like 25 blocks under the surface?
I meant one surrounded by water on all sides, made from glass. Anyway, I already built it, so whatever.
Beardo, how do you get screenshots like that?
I'm wynonaforever. Maybe I'll see you on the server. Or maybe you'll quit to play somewhere that has ant-grief protection. :(
Camouflage?
Minecraft Beta 1.3
* Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
* Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
* Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
* Added three new half-size blocks
* Added Delay/Repeater redstone dust blocks
* Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist <cmd>” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add <player>”, “remove <player>”, “list” or “reload”
* New save file format, old maps need to be converted (that might take a while..)
* It’s now possible to have more than five save slots, and to rename saves
* Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
* Replaced the Mojang splash image to reflect the new logo colors
* .. and a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks!
* Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
what server do you guys play on?
Yeah, and had a tunnel cave in on me. lol
So far our underground city consists of:
A critter killer
An automatic egg farm *NEW!*
A couple of nice houses
A furnished apartment building
A temple
A sugar cane farm
A park area
Come join us, Bore Bros. You're welcome to take up residence in the apartments and help us build some cool city crap.
If you update you wont be able to connect to our server as we are waiting for bukkit to release the 1.5 compatible server files, they are holding back untill notch releases a stable patch sine 1.5 had some nasty bugs.
Notch has released a 1.5_01 update but bukkit are still holding off.
Follow the details of bukkit here: http://bukkit.org/
And updates from notch here: http://twitter.com/#!/notch
I will be keeping the server 1.4 untill bukkit updates or nothing will work, should only be a few days at the most depending on notch and bukkit tho.
If you did update download this and set it to 1.4_01

please don't be awful
One of the new aspects of the game added in the Adventure Update is the Food Bar, which governs several aspects of gameplay. Eating food, instead of directly restoring the player's Health, now fills up the Food Bar, which is constantly draining very, very slowly.
If the Food Bar is 90%-100% full you will slowly regenerate health, but if you let it drain all the way to 0%, you will constantly lose half a heart instead, as you are starving to death. On Easy difficulty, the player's health would stop dropping at 5 hearts, Normal stops at 1/2 a heart, and on Hard it will keep draining until you die.
Contrary to popular belief, having a full Food Bar does not keep your health bar from completely depleting.
While the player is sprinting, the Food Bar will deplete faster than when not sprinting and will be unable to sprint at all once the bar falls to 30% or less.
This game mechanic would allow food to be stacked, increasing the amount of food one can carry in their inventory at a time. It has been hinted that this will be added when Hardcore mode is added. Despite that fact, some community modders have already created Single Player mods and Multiplayer mods, both of which incorporate the hunger mechanic.
The Food Bar does not drain when playing on Peaceful mode, but its effects on your character's health bar remain.
When you eat Rotten Flesh, your Food Bar gets poisoned and depletes faster. There is also a small chance of your food bar poisoning every time you eat Raw Chicken.
Yeah, I died in lava before and it made me stop playing for a while because you can't even get back the stuff you dropped.
