XBL closed system is being exposed - if MS do not adapt they will die and i will happily drink 50 litres of gas to make sure i piss it all out on their dumbfuck faces if they fail to see the warnings.
I'm going to say the same thing I say when people rag on the wii. Who cares if microsoft's internal studios aren't actively involved in supporting their platform with software output. The system still gets lots of games from various sources via various delivery mechanisms. Its like hating on Apple for not developing first party app store games, which I should clarify would be a distinguished mentally-challenged attitude.

What is this all about anyway?

but wii doesn't get a lot of games from various sources!

Sony has been more amiable to third party networks, Steam in particular, compared to MS having everything locked down. The PS3 version of Portal 2 includes 3 copies of the game (PS3, PC and Mac), cross platform play, patches and DLC updates via Steamworks whereas the 360 version gets nothing extra.
Aren't you that dude that used to make all the wii threads where you basically talked to yourself for 20 posts in a row? Just kidding, I already knew the answer was yes.
The closed system is getting to be a real problem. People are having to hold back because they want parity between 360/PS3. Awesome to see that Valve doesn't give a shit and is doing cross-platform on PS3/PC while leaving out Xbox (and making it the clearly inferior version)
halo gears wild punt kinect halo gears wild punt kinect halo gears wild punt kinect....killzone move uncharfuck home littlebigderp move resistance wild punt derp
pretty clear MS are fucking dopes
as stupid as it sounds due to my complete lack of understanding how any of this shit works, why can't there be more scalability in console/handheld games? for PC games, generally a modest rig can run any game at low resolution, and as you beef it up, software looks and runs better. That's how it has always been for that. But it's the same for the ipad and iphone, right? games run smoother on the newer hardware, and even when games released are more for the new hardware, they can still run on the old hardware.
like, what if Microsoft put out a box that isn't a drastic improvement from the the 360, but the games are still playable on the existing 360. When you play it on the new box, it's 60fps 1080p, better AA/AF, etc. When you play it on the 360, it's blurry, choppy, jaggy, tearing, and basically what the average 360 game is like today (hurrr).
I'm not taking a lot of things into account, like the real benefit of doing that when the original system would be phased out soon enough, but still, I don't get why games are basically disposable on consoles.
Stupid thought, yeah. wait, what's this thread about?
side note: does anyone realize Motorstorm 3 and SOCOM 4 are coming out this month? does sony even market their games?
Well, i sold my 360.

this
this isn't about this gen, Em, this is about the next gen and the gen after that. MS are starting to show that they don't particularly see what is on the horizon. That may be a little unfair and we may see all the bugbears and stupidisms of the XBL closed system suddenly vanish at X720 launch but i can honestly say i'm not confident.
As per Iconclast - amazing until 2008 but since then it's like they switched out the management to have the Excel team run the show and it seems to be all falling apart a bit. If anyone could really fuck things up - it'd be MS. I really am half expecting IP checked accounts next year - "oh wait, you aren't in the Merica? or Non japan asia? then you can't play this glorious import ! Wait for the Japanese version... oh wait, we aren't releasing it! Never mind!" *
* - exaggerated for effect, but i honestly think this is the sort of dumb fuck move we might see. I have no faith at all in the current management.
PC solves all your problems. One platform, no waggle :bow2:wtf
PC has had waggle for ages, it's just that no one ever cared.

And no one develops for it.
i find my self agreeing with Methodis - gamers should be selfish and MS are pissing in the mouths of all of us once they had "done enough" - i seriously believe they are thinking about X7200XBFUCKNAME right now and they will be massively on the ball for about two years and then fuck it all up again.

The big thing for the Xbox 360 will be apps, bank on it.
Or don't but I think this years big deal from them will be the integration of Windows Phone 7 apps and a wider release of XBLA games on WP7. Obviously I expect game announcements and the typical "GUESS WHAT SERVICE IS COMING TO THE 360" but it's all about apps in my book.
Good thing? Probably not but this is the closest I think the 360 will get to being open. I wouldn't hate it if I could stream music while playing games or hit the guide button while playing to pull up the youtube app.
Android has a bigger potential to be a huge player in the mobile market if Google can get some standardizations in place.

It is a great thing when eyes start to open. MS is on borrowed time with the 360. Hope they are enjoying the ride now because everything will have to reboot soon, including Live subscriptions. Once Call of Duty as a franchise dies off Live subscriptions will go into the tank as well.
Not to sound like a Nintard but Microsoft is just doing whatever they can to make up as much money as possible on their investment. They're playing it as safe as possible and as cheap as possible. It is perfectly understandable that they've essentially given up on the first party front because even if Kinect falls apart later in the year, they can keep the 360 going for a while. The 360 is _the_ multiplatform console of choice and new sales of COD, Madden, and NCAA Football will keep it going until the new system is out. Obviously Microsoft knows this or it wouldn't be such a virtual desert.
When you say "these days" it implies that it hasn't always being a piece of crap.
