Really it's the fact that they make no effort before they leave the house, are completely oblivious while out n about, talk about stupid he said she said bullshit, then blow off responsibility for gumming up the works for everyone.

Pajamas outside the house/drive way...what universe is this? Ok when you say pajamas do you mean PAJAMAS or like a sweater and pajama pants. Cuz I can kind of forgive the latter

How can you forgive pajama pants outside the house?

Easily if the pants are worn by a woman and made out of flannel.
Title: Re: People and their stupid faces
Post by: Phoenix Dark on December 26, 2011, 02:55:46 PM
So the person you saw was only wearing pajama pants? I can give it a pass on a woman; to me, it's on par with wearing sweat pants. Not exactly kosher, not something you'd wear to a restaurant but perfectly fine for a quick run to Whole Foods or the bank.

WTF are grown men thinking when they make the conscious decision to put pajama pants on and walk out their front door in public?? This phenomenon boggles my mind and I have seen it increase at an alarming rate.

There is a commonality amongst these men – a large belly, usually semi-covered by a food stained, yellow arm pitted t-shirt, a cough that sounds like a mix between 2 packs of marb reds and a bout with tuberculosis and the smell of stale weed permeating from their person. I am pretty sure most are unemployed or seasonal workers, living in a basement of their mother’s home who clearly have no pride in themselves.

Here is a tip – try dressing in real clothes and maybe you would feel a little better about things, get some swagger if you will. In the meantime, please tuck your swinging balls that I can see through your open fly because you’re wearing PAJAMA PANTS IN PUBLIC and keep moving… Your stench is disrupting my meal.

See now if this thread was about grown men who leave the house in pajamas - complete with the two unbuttoned buttons at the top of their pajama shirt underneath their pea coat - THEN I'd be all aboard this rant. But....a woman in a hooded sweater, pajama pants, and running shoes getting a coffee at Tim Horton's? That's America, man

The WORST is assholes buying scratchoff tickets in front of me at the convenience store. Hey, hey dumbfuck, how about knowing what the hell kind of ticket you want to buy before you get to the register? How about not standing there and scratching them when I just want to buy my soda and pack of crackers and get the hell out of here? Oh, you didn't win anything? I did. I won the satisfaction of knowing you just wasted an amount of dollars equal to my wasted time. I hope you never win, you oblivious, self-centered dickface.

I used to go shop in pajamas all the time back when I was self-employed/pothead. It was neat. Some days I classed it up by going out in a robe and spider slippers.

That's true. Also true for spandex, though that craze has surely died out by now, no?

It also reminds me of a story from a couple years ago. Low-rise jeans were huge in Japan, and there was nary a day that went by where I didn't see some slim-hipped Japanese lady in them. I thanked god daily for being born a heterosexual male, and living in Japan.

Then I heard some American podcast guy saying how low-rise jeans were the worst fashion mistake of the last decade. That the design should never have come out into the public. "WAT?! HOW WRONG CAN ONE MAN BE," I thought to myself.

Then I took a trip stateside and found out what was meant by "muffin top." And I understood.

The only time I leave my house in sweatpants is if I'm getting the mail or something out of my car.  Being a fat dude that runs in nerdy circles, I'm super cognizant of being "that guy" and don't ever want to be looked upon that way.  I mean fuck, it's hard enough getting laid as a fat nerdy dude, let's not up the difficulty level.

Post by: duckman2000 on December 28, 2011, 04:00:46 AM
I was also raised to dress nicely on airplanes and it's something that's stuck with me as well. Sometimes my girlfriend and I fight over it because she wants to fly in sweats.

Flying in a proper clothing is so stupid. Maybe if it's a short flight, but flights 7 hours long and up are strictly comfy clothes situations. You're going to reek of other people anyway, and you need to get twice as drunk to get half as comfortable. Fuck that.

I wouldnt feel comfortable wearing sweatpants outside cause I know what people would be thinking.

Meh, I don't give a shit what other people think, I'm cooler than they are anyway. I dislike sweat pants so those are out, but the robe and slippers combo is unbeatable. Especially when you happen to stand in a crowded coffee shop with a bunch of suit and tie drones.

I dunno duckman, it's easy to say you don't care but you obviously do a bit since you like to shock drones in your robe ;)

I'm not a fancy dresser (lately I have been wearing mostly "outdoorsy" clothes) but I like to dress apropriate to the occasion.
Title: Re: People and their stupid faces
Post by: duckman2000 on December 28, 2011, 04:57:15 AM
Different strokes for different folks, but I've noticed people dressed nicely get treated better than those who aren't. Sitting 8 hours on a plane in office clothes is no different than sitting 8 hours in an office. :)

I've never really had a problem with that. Granted that I don't dress like a slob either, but half the passengers typically look like they are about to hit up a real fancy dinner as opposed to being shoved into a can for 8+ hours. And then they fight to get out of those posh clothes as soon as the plane is in the air.

I dunno duckman, it's easy to say you don't care but you obviously do a bit since you like to shock drones in your robe ;)

I'm not a fancy dresser (lately I have been wearing mostly "outdoorsy" clothes) but I like to dress apropriate to the occasion.

Touché. Although I don't think it's about shocking so much as bugging them, and loathing the suit and tie mentality of the American workplace in general.

Just ready to leave the house in sweat pants. I going to the gym tho (which also is only ten minutes away). I never wear sweat pants outside on other occasions. Maybe once in a while to get some bread buns for breakfast, but the bakery again is only 5 minutes away. I'd say anything within 10 minutes around your home is fair game in sweat pants.

I don't even own a pair of sweatpants. However, I will spend most my time at home parading around in my underwear. This only got awkward once when the FedEx guy pulled in without me hearing, and then had the front door swing open when he knocked because it was improperly latched.

I don't own a pair of sweat pants, and I only own one pair of shorts which I rarely wear. I guess it comes from work, and not wanting to kneel down on bare knees in the filth others have left behind, or having to yank dried paint out of my leg hairs.  I generally just go with a button shirt, darker jeans, and a nice pair of shoes or boots in public situations like flights.

I do own flannel pajama bottoms, those and a t-shirt are what I generally wear around the house if i am not leaving for a while.

I am not opposed to dressing down, and have a nice (ish) suit I wear on occasion, I just don't ever have much call to wear it unless someone's getting married or buried.

If it's a short enough run, I'll wear pajamas out of the house in the AM hours. I'm married. Who the hell am I trying to impress during my brief but harrowing journey to the grocery store for eggs and milk?

As for short pants, I wear them almost exclusively in the summer months. Obviously, different places have different standards, but practically everyone in my office is in shorts and sandals when the weather is nice.

Pretty sure you're excused from thinking about flexibility, considering you have to wear a uniform most of the time.

Wearing shorts and a t-shirt to work is one of the "perks" of being a game developer; never meeting any humans outside your team unless they let you out for GDC or E3 is the downside.  :-\
