It's easier than you think. One of my insane aunts got a book published this or last year. It's not very well written, either. Of course it was published by a company whose only other publications are the works of its owner/founder, but hey, it's still published!

Rumbler, if old ladies going through menopause can shit out crappy love novels, you should be able to publish your book.

One of my roommate's in college, he had an aunt who wrote those shitty novels. His mom was so proud of her. LOOK, HAVE YOU READ THIS? HAVE YOU HEARD OF IT?! And there's this chick in a bed, eyes wide open, ready for a dicking while this bare-chested Fabio looking wannabe walks through the door on the cover.

Suffice to say, YOU CAN DO IT MAN.
Title: Re: 2012 GOALS
Post by: Great Rumbler on December 30, 2011, 11:56:35 PM
What would it be about?

It's about an exiled prince searching through a massive desert for his sister. The idea was to make it a bit surreal and draw from Heart of Darkness, though I wasn't quite as successful in that area as I would have liked. That's a stand-alone story, I've also got the more typical grand fantasy novel that's the first part in the series. I'm still doing a bit of work on both, but I've got some hopes for publishing progress next year.

It's pretty easy to get a book published on Amazon as a ebook.  And there are people who have had million seller self published titles on Amazon and got real book deals out of it what's to lose. Goal is easily achieved if you can finish a novel.

Why go the agent route? Ebooks sell better than traditional books now anyway. No reason to hold on to the old way of doing things and hope to get a agent a book in actual print. Having a popular ebook would likely make getting an agent way easier for book number 2.

One goal for next year was to pay off my car, but I paid it off last month. :bow2 Maybe I'll replace that with my husband's car instead.

-Gain weight
-Birth a child without pooping
-Raise baby without destroying marriage
-Replace tiny paid off car with a 4-door... :(
-Pay off debt

I've already started buying furniture, picking out paint and decor, clearing out one of the spare bedrooms, etc. It's all pretty gender-neutral so theoretically it could be started soon. Once we find out what we're having, we can add gender-specific accents.

- Buy a car
- Train myself back up to present-level tech in game art
- Get a new job
- Move family across the Pacific Ocean to somewhere near the new job
- Enroll kids in US schools for the first time in their lives
- Take care of wife's immigration

 :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

-Finish writing my story.  Then I can turn it into a film, a game, or a novel (don't want to pin myself to a format until most of the plot/dialogue is done).  I want to sit down and every day spend time on this, so I can create the ultimate epic story of :uguu

-Put on some muscle weight.  Will start going to the gym with a personal trainer for a few months and learn how to actually build muscle to go along with all the cardio workouts I do.

-Join a Japanese speaking club.  My listening/reading is fine from all the jrpgs and stuff I play, but the last time I spoke to someone in Japanese was probably 3 years ago at this point and I'm sure my spoken Japanese is awful currently.  Want to join a club where I can talk to Japanese people and practice keeping up my language skills.

-Take an intro French class.  Been wanting to learn a few more languages for like FIVE YEARS now, but haven't made the time to do it.  2012 is when I will learn some French.  Goal is to learn French and then Spanish.

-Travel across Europe.  Never been anywhere in Europe.  Hoping to make the trip to Italy, France, and UK in 2012.

-Mayyybe learn how to play Guitar again like I did when I was 15.  I own ROCKSMITH and an electric guitar; so I'm hoping to combine the two and see if it can refresh my ancient memory on how to play a song again.  I've never really been musically inclined, but hey, always worth a shot!

PS.  Himuro, how do you read 50+ books while still playing videogames?  Juggling a book & videogames & some movies during my free hobby time, it takes me about a month to read a 1000 page book.  I try to make it through about 5-6 books a year.

Stop wasting money.

This is my 2013 goal.

-Be a good dad.
-Run two half-marathons.
-Buy more shitty Gundam games.

I'm sure you'll be an awesome dad.  Your kid is going to have the BEST mecha collection in Seattle!

Another nerdy goal that I have is that this is the year that I'm going all digital.  I'm donating all of my books to the local library and put whatever I like onto a Kindle or Nook (haven't decided yet).  Won't own any physical copies of games, they'll either be rented through Gamefly or downloaded (I'm downloading PS3 full games as I speak).  I'm going to sell or donate my tiny DVD collection and use Netflix or Hulu Plus.  As for music, I'll be downloading illegally, like I have been for 12 years.

Not a difficult goal by any means but might as well get all modern and shit.

Feedback's always cool, by the way, guys. If you hated it, BE SPECIFIC. I'm kind of entering a brave new world here, so I really don't know what to expect. This is definitely a learning experience for me and I think that what I really need at this stage in my growth as a writer is to have my work out there for the people to see and read and comment on. It alters my whole mindset to know that every word and every sentence is now coming under scrutiny from people who have no emotional attachment whatsoever to the story.

You don't need to write 10,000 essay describing every aspect of my story or anything! Just some comments about what you liked, what you didn't like, things like that. You'd be surprised at how much even just an offhand comment from an outsider can mean.

Finish my game or at least release some version of it.

I already have "some version of it." :P

Also mine is to finish my game too. Not much longer... Also to release SOMETHING about this stupid Flash series I've been sitting on for like six years.

I just got a salaried job and I'm moving out next week so I don't have to put "don't be a loser!" on my list this year. Yay!

Ah yeah, I want to become super digital (but not completely so, I don't think the tech is here just yet.) Also to get my backlog down to like 10% or less. If a Pokemon comes out though that's going to murder my free time, with a knife.

I just got a salaried job and I'm moving out next week so I don't have to put "don't be a loser!" on my list this year. Yay!

I skipped ahead and Alison seems to be some kind of martial artist, so I'm assuming he's a Joss Whedon fan.

What chapter are you reading where this happens, because I don't remember writing any fight scenes?

Why did you write from the female perspective?

I'm not really set into any one perspective, my stories tend to skip around a lot in that respect. I've got another novel from the perspective of an older man, another with a younger man, another with a young boy, and another with a lot of different perspectives from a lot of different characters, I just go with whatever feels right at the time.

a person's ACTUAL age is irrelevant on these here internets. the age that matters is the one they present: are they a voice of understood, insightful life experience; or do they LOVE NINTENDO PRODUKT

Eh, I'll give OKC another whirl this summer.

Right now I need to get myself fit and confident. 2012 is still young so there will be plenty of time for pussy later on in the year.

Damn. Grindr is scary. Found a bunch of guys living 300-500ft away. This is the closest thing we'll ever get to a rape directory.
