Title: This week in Bronyism - anime talk RUINED our point and laugh brony thread :(

You know, I'm starting to think maybe all of these anti-bullying movements have gone too far if this is the price we have to pay.

This bothers me.  Mainly because I consider myself a Brony, and I don't beat off to ponies.  Most of the people I know that like MLP don't.  This is a classic example of taking the worst of a group, and making it seem like the majority.  That bugs the hell out of me.

I like to think I'm reasonably open to people pursuing niche interests, but I was not happy when I found out a guy at my last job is a Brony. I had a difficult time conversing with him after that. That diaper pic is not helping me find peace within myself.

I believe that screen-cap is really old, way before the rabid fanbase fully mutated into this disfigured, deviant monster. I personally don't believe the creators can look at some of the extreme displays of affection and not feel any remorse or disgust. I have no problem with bros watching this show and enjoying it, I really don't. What I don't approve of is how it can overtake their lives, imagination, and rears its ugly head in every form of expression they contribute to. It's an unhealthy obsession that starts with meme macros and ends up with adult diapers, holed plushies, and...

True story- back in the late 90's when I was an affable stoner/drunk in college at Athens, GA, my friends and I liked to get high and watch the Pokemans cartoon.  This was before it was a cultural phenomenon and shit.  Later that year as it exploded we all sort of looked at each other and were like "shit we're in our early 20's" and stopped watching it.

:larry  could be, could be.  I mean, people do this with Pokemon and Digimon and all kinds of kids stuff too.   Then there are the scalies and furries for whom it really is just a sex fetish and not some love for anthro art.  When it gets down to that level, it's hard to say what the worst is.

They have dog and horse dicks, too. Just saying. I don't want to demonize the entire furry community, as much as I don't get what they're about, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the incidence of pet-fucking is higher among the community than it is among the general public.

:o
I can never un-see that.  :yuck

Furries, afaik, are the dudes into anthropomorphic animal cartoons. Think about Disney's old Robin Hood movie with the fox in the title role, except with tits, or a penis, or both. I think Omaha the Cat Dancer was the ur-furry or proto-furry source, with all kinds of furry comics in the wake.

Then there are plushies, who sexualize stuffed animals, either dressing up as stuffed animal toys or engaging in frottage with stuffed animal toys. I'm specifying toys because there are probably sexual fetishists who interact with taxidermy. Ew. God, I'm unhappy that my mind even went there.

Bronies are a subset of furry. The object of their obsession is a partially-anthropomorphized cartoon character.

The family in your picture are just weird, and possibly sick. I mean, why is the girl touching daddy's fake junk? Good god.

Also, how do you know that in that pic it's daddy's fake junk, maybe it's like a sock and his real junk is inside it? shyamalantwist.jpg

Quote
Q: Are there any restrictions on what can be sold?
A: We do not allow any consumables (Food or beverages) to be sold in our Dealer’s Room.  As BronyCon strives to be an environment suitable for all ages, we also prohibit the display, sale, or exchange of any art or merchandise that is Not Safe for Work (NSFW), or above a PG rating.  If you have any questions about what we will allow sold, you can always email vendors@bronycon.org for more case-by-case information.

The ponies, a Hasbro staple for 30 years, have experienced a resurgence of popularity lately, thanks in part to the TV series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.” Hoping to build on that interest, Hasbro recently revealed plans for brand extension called Equestria Girls.

The new property will get the red-carpet treatment when it premieres as a full-length animated feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June. The movie, created by Hasbro Studios, the company’s production division, will then be released in more than 200 theaters nationwide; its trailer will start appearing in theaters on Wednesday.

I... I... I don't even... What? Why would they do that?! I have no words. Maybe they thought that it was their moral duty to shift the bronies' attentions back to human females so they can't be blamed when bronies start getting caught having sex with horses. That movie has to be because of the bronies somehow.

Anyway I'm posting this pic I already posted in the GAF bitching thread, will someone please tell me what the fuck that is? Is it a trans person? If it is, try harder. If it's a girl..... No words. Again.

So, apparently John De Lancie is the voice of a character on that MLP show, he didn't even know what the show was until he was being approached by Bronies, which in turn interested him, and he participated in making a documentary about them -- effectively equating Bronies with Trekkies, as a form of life. Did I get that right?

Nah, the bronies hate it. They like the horses because they're horses, and they're mad that Hasbro hasn't been marketing the show toward its true audience, not realizing that no amount of money is worth Hasbro ruining its credibility as a children's toy manufacturer by catering to a horde of austistic, adult sexual deviants.

Haha for real? I saw a couple bronies on my Facebook (don't ask) who were excited for it, I assumed this is what they've been waiting for.

I don't know whether to be proud of bronies for rejecting this shit, or laugh at them for thinking they are the target demographic.

I always assumed a large appeal for many bronies was the absolute lack of sexuality and other real world affairs. it's basically the softest, lovey dovey escapism pillow for these socially scared and broken lads to sink their heads into and block out all that stress of finding a girlfriend, getting an education, holding a job, having a social life, and so on and so forth.

You're definitely not wrong there, a large portion of anime currently being produced is aimed squarely at basement dwelling trogs with no social life, no girlfriend, and no job.

If I'm being honest, I watch and enjoy some of these shows, as well, but I view them only as disposable, low-investment snack food that I can enjoy and then toss away when I'm finished.

I like a fair amount of anime, but i like animated stuff in general.  As another token "cowboy bebop, Vampire Hunter D, etc." guy, I really have to dig for stuff that I like in that vein...but I'm a sucker for searching for hidden gems and there is a metric fuckton of anime produced in the past 30 years to dig through.  I'm usually looking for good cyberpunk, cheesy 80s/90s action, and darker/understated/experimental stuff.   I still couldn't tell someone flat out "I like anime" irl, since that's associated with uguu~  have to qualify the fuck out of it, like i just did.

It didn't get a lot of love when it originally was released [despite airing on Cartoon Network], but Outlaw Star is a pretty solid scifi series.

Then there's quintessential shoujo/mecha anime Escaflowne, although I think most everybody's seen that at least once.

Can't have a recommendation post without Patlabor, especially the movies.

For superior mid-90's mecha, you can't go wrong with Martian Successor Nadesico.

For a series that perfectly captures the mood of Japan at its economic height, there's You're Under Arrest, the four-episode OVA and the movie are the best of the bunch.

I think this is everything I've watched over the past few years and enjoyed on some level, whether it's genuinely good or just fun.

action, dystopic, sci-fi, cyberpunk, love letters to Blade Runner etc. etc.

Angel Cop
Bubblegum Crisis (and all the spin-offs like A.D. Police and especially Parasite Dolls, which isn't 80s/90s but captures that feel perfectly.)
Cyber City Oedo
Hokuto No Ken (Fist of the North Star) movie
Megazone 23
Violence Jack
Wicked City
Grey: Digital Target
Ai City
Neo Tokyo
Ninja Resurrection
Ninja gaiden
Serial Experiments Lain

weird artsy stuff--
Cat Soup
Angel Egg

not 80s/90s exception:
Ergo Proxy

Some of this falls under "so good it's bad"

So basically, i go to the other extreme from cutesy kiddy-fiddling to violent/grimdark/techno-babble anime.

I feel so weird as an anime fan. Like, I know I'm not the the textbook example of an anime fan as I like all forms of animation. I dunno. I've never liked nor watched the moe stuff and when there's something that caters to me (like a space opera, or a drama, or something) I watch it. What devolution described is just so foreign a concept to me as I never watched anime to 'escape sexuality or life' or whatever. I just watch it for cool stories.

But whatever brehs. I don't see really see any difference between Pixar and anime. Maybe it's because of the stuff I watch. I just don't know.

I have no opinion on MLP. I watched like one episode, clearly for children. Bronies are weird, although harmless.

aw man this anime is the shit shooting bitches in the tittys and shit its like Golgo 13 but with cops YEAAAAAHHHH

Angel Cop rules, but you miss out on this by watching the dub:

Quote
The original Japanese language version of Angel Cop is controversial for its anti-Semitic plot points. In the original Japanese, it is revealed that the Jews are the main threat to Japan's standard of living, and are trying to sabotage the country's economy and turn it into a dumping ground for radioactive material.

Other than those two... Cat Soup (released in 2001 yeah yeah). Honestly, fuck anything released beyond the 90s. Just trash.

I would love to be given an opportunity to beat each and every brony to death with their own prized My Little Pony merchandise.

That or dump them all in Detroit and then barricade that shit up into a dome like that one in the Truman Show.
