Hasbro, the toy company that brought its Transformers and G.I. Joe properties to movie theaters, has set its sights on its next summer blockbuster: My Little Pony.

The ponies, a Hasbro staple for 30 years, have experienced a resurgence of popularity lately, thanks in part to the TV series “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.” Hoping to build on that interest, Hasbro recently revealed plans for brand extension called Equestria Girls.

The new property will get the red-carpet treatment when it premieres as a full-length animated feature at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June. The movie, created by Hasbro Studios, the company’s production division, will then be released in more than 200 theaters nationwide; its trailer will start appearing in theaters on Wednesday.

I... I... I don't even... What? Why would they do that?! I have no words. Maybe they thought that it was their moral duty to shift the bronies' attentions back to human females so they can't be blamed when bronies start getting caught having sex with horses. That movie has to be because of the bronies somehow.

Anyway I'm posting this pic I already posted in the GAF bitching thread, will someone please tell me what the fuck that is? Is it a trans person? If it is, try harder. If it's a girl..... No words. Again.

I don't really care about gender as much as the blatant disregard for every societal norm I can think of. I feel I should be impressed they haven't had their teeth removed just for the fuck of it.

So, apparently John De Lancie is the voice of a character on that MLP show, he didn't even know what the show was until he was being approached by Bronies, which in turn interested him, and he participated in making a documentary about them -- effectively equating Bronies with Trekkies, as a form of life. Did I get that right?

Oh I'm fine with the MLP original, it's a fun cartoon that my little cousins love and I enjoy (it's better than most of the cartoons they like...). But this new show seems like fan service to arguably the weirdest fans in existence today.

I've never seen the new MLP, just pictures online. Totally cool with my daughter watching it if she shows an interest and it's still around.

Not like I'm gonna make her watch Gundam cartoons or anything... nope...

Nah, the bronies hate it. They like the horses because they're horses, and they're mad that Hasbro hasn't been marketing the show toward its true audience, not realizing that no amount of money is worth Hasbro ruining its credibility as a children's toy manufacturer by catering to a horde of austistic, adult sexual deviants.

Haha for real? I saw a couple bronies on my Facebook (don't ask) who were excited for it, I assumed this is what they've been waiting for.

I don't know whether to be proud of bronies for rejecting this shit, or laugh at them for thinking they are the target demographic.

I always assumed a large appeal for many bronies was the absolute lack of sexuality and other real world affairs. it's basically the softest, lovey dovey escapism pillow for these socially scared and broken lads to sink their heads into and block out all that stress of finding a girlfriend, getting an education, holding a job, having a social life, and so on and so forth.

You're definitely not wrong there, a large portion of anime currently being produced is aimed squarely at basement dwelling trogs with no social life, no girlfriend, and no job.

If I'm being honest, I watch and enjoy some of these shows, as well, but I view them only as disposable, low-investment snack food that I can enjoy and then toss away when I'm finished.

There are some I've genuinely enjoyed like Cowboy Bebop, Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the North Star. Been watching Berserk lately too. I really like a certain era of anime when they got creepy just right.

they do that pretty well today too :teehee

I like a fair amount of anime, but i like animated stuff in general.  As another token "cowboy bebop, Vampire Hunter D, etc." guy, I really have to dig for stuff that I like in that vein...but I'm a sucker for searching for hidden gems and there is a metric fuckton of anime produced in the past 30 years to dig through.  I'm usually looking for good cyberpunk, cheesy 80s/90s action, and darker/understated/experimental stuff.   I still couldn't tell someone flat out "I like anime" irl, since that's associated with uguu~  have to qualify the fuck out of it, like i just did.

Watched cyber city.  I'll check out the other one!

I've never laughed so hard at anime before:

These older shows are chock full of that 80s retro synth vibe that people sweat so hard.

yeah, I'd put it under that.  Seen it many times.  The full 30 minute episodes are so weird and good, though the VA can be pretty off at times.
