Title: FOOD BABY - What are you eating?!
Post by: lennedsay on March 29, 2013, 10:46:33 PM
Mupepe would be so proud. I just left my first churrasco.

 :dead

Holy fuck balls. It was so good. SO GOOD. Meat on sticks everywhere. The restaurant just opened and is one of the closest restaurants to my house now. My body is doomed. My husband is my designated driver because I am too food-drunk to be behind the wheel right now.

 :whew

fogo de chao... so many memories haha... I never got the all you can eat, but all of my friends do, which means they are usually crawling out of the building when they are done.

Awwwww snap!! I told you like 2 years ago that churrascarias are the shiznit! Woot. Did they have the cheese bread??

fogo de chao is good but overpriced as fuck. Luckily these fucking restaurants are all over Houston. They're usually better than fogo de chao and like 2/3 the price or less.

Had sushi at a small nondescript place down the road from me... "Port Jeff Sushi and Teriyaki". It was good! Had spicy yellowtail, and a specialty roll - avocado, eel, mango and spicy sauce. Tomorrow I'm going to a Spanish restaurant on Staten Island for a friend's birthday, and Sunday it's Easter dinner at a steakhouse in Port Jeff.

Omg I know! 2 bites into my salad I remembered your wise words to stick with the meat. Thank god because I was still miserable. But I did try the cheese bread and these tiny cheese filled rolls. Omg soo good but I only had a bite of each.

$20.99 for dinner! So cheap for all you can eat deliciousness, plus a good night's sleep.

The baby had her first steak and she's in love. I was shredding tiny bites for her on her placemat, and she was pushing my hand out of the way to look for fresh bites. Thank god it was so loud in there because she would squeal with happiness. GIMME THEM BITES MOM!!!! She's a total fatty friend already, despite being so skinny. She ate and ate and ate, and then I look over and she was sitting back in her seat and had found her pacifier and looked content and exhausted. She was asleep by the time we got out of the parking lot lol She's still asleep!

We're going to Cheeburger Cheeburger tonight with some friends.

Not sure about Cheeburger Cheeburger yet. This will be our first time :) I hope it's more like Smashburger than Five Guys, but I have no clue what to expect.

Smashburger is my favorite chain burger by far. We have a few local places that are similar where you can get Mac&cheese on the burger and shit. Plus I work in the middle of locally-owned restaurant Mecca so we're always going to these little bars for amazing burgers. Blows Five Guys out of the water.

Edit: Nm Just saw it's near 270. Mannnnnn I can't go at lunch then. :(

Oh man, Cheeburger Cheeburger. :drool

You order what size burger you want and then pick your bun, cheese, and whatever toppings and sauce you want. I'm boring and only got a few things, but the boys got all these sauces and crazy shit. I was more impressed with their huge selection of shakes. I didn't know what to get, so I ended up with a frozen hot chocolate shake. Delish. I'm too picky to get wild on the burgers though.

Went for conveyor-belt sushi for lunch. Everything is automated. Regular conveyor belt carries the standard selection. You can special order through a touch-screen, and those items arrive on an express conveyor belt above the regular one.

The number of plates you've eaten is counted by a return mechanism; feed the plates into the return slot, you get a chance to win stuff from a gachapon/capsule toy vendor above the sushi lanes. Definitely felt like I was in Japan.

The food wasn't bad, which was pretty surprising. Not exactly an ancient artisan's work, but the automated environment made it a memorable experience.

Hmm, Smashburger opened fairly close to here a few years ago and I was kinda disappointed with it... everything seemed to be so wet. I think I prefer 5 Guys to it (though some of our local fast food chains are still the best). Haven't been to Cheeburger Cheeburger yet though... and I'm jealous you got to go to a Churrascaria, I LOOOOVE those.

Too often, chicken pot pie and a bottle wine for like $7 is a good deal but getting kind of old.

You're in Santa Cruz right?  There's a Trader Joe's on Front Street.

If you want to put a LITTLE more effort into a meal: a quick and easy recipe I taught rodi was to just grab a bag of those frozen meatballs, some canned red sauce and some artichoke hearts and throw them into a pot and heat through.  Takes like five minutes.

Ends up like this:

I've also heard you can microwave fresh corn on the cob (also five minutes) but I haven't actually tried it myself.

I like CG's suggestion.  TJ frozen meatballs are really flavorful, I cook them up for a quick 5 minute meal all the time.

Trader Joe's: I used to get the rigatoni, frozen cooked shrimp, and a tub of pesto. I'd cook the pasta, then drain, and toss the pesto in skillet, and toss in the pesto and shrimp. Double-yummy.

Oh lord, my parents came over for Easter. It was surprisingly nice outside so in lieu of traditional Easter food, we grilled some strip steaks. I made some crazy broccoli cheese bacon side dish, a corn cake better than the thing you get at Chevy's, and a salad. For dessert I made banana cream pie cupcakes with homemade whip cream frosting. :drool

What a fatty weekend.

It's okay, but the big surprise for me was how creamy raw chicken liver is. Yummy with soy and ginger.

Cheated on this one: they came frozen.  Love pao de queijo. Saw them at this Brazillian grocery store that looked like a front for something else (they have like literally one shelf of food in there) so I thought I'd give them a try.  Pretty good.

We have a gas stove, which creates dead spots in the center of pans.

Then again any fool knows you can simply move the pan around so it heats equally
There's also buying a thicker pan, which will distribute heat more evenly. My family grew up using a pancake griddle to marvelous effect.

PM'd. Also, the key to cooking a pancake is to wait until the bubbles stop closing, but its still visibly wet. Waiting until it looks like a crumpet is bad form.

I have a pancake recipe that has so much in the batter that you don't really need syrup. It's like nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, molasses, and the other usual stuff. Make a crepe variation of it, too.

CG can't handle it doe

I always end up eating them all by myself.

I had pork schnitzel covered with cheese and a mushroom gravy. Potato pancakes, applesauce and spatzle on the side. :drool Hubs had sauerbraten. Baby ate pretty much everything and was in love. Although we have yet to find a food she doesn't like.... lol she's a skinny foodie.

When I was staying in Germany, they made all sorts of food for us, but honestly, I think I ate more Italian food while I was there than traditional German food. We did eat a ton of schweineruckensteak which is a lot like our pork steaks in STL (more meat and less fat), and we had a few schnitzels, so that's easy. But I specifically remember this soup with white asparagus, cubes of scrambled eggs (that were baked in a casserole dish beforehand and cut into cubes), and little meatballs. Omg. It was a broth soup, but I have no clue what kind of broth.

They also had this cake, but it wasn't super sweet like our cakes (obviously). It was baked in a loaf pan and instead of frosting, they melted sugar and poured it over the top of the cake so that it made this sweet hard shell.

I ate like 6-7 times a day there and lost 10 pounds. It was amazing.

I had a doritos nacho taco, doritos cool ranch taco, and a volcano burrito for lunch.  it was good while I was eating it.  But once you're done stuffing your face and you can smell the ingredients on your hands and upper lip while you're sitting there digesting, it pretty much ruins the whole experience.  then the itis sets in.

If I can eat dinner, tofu stir fry it is.

We haven't tried eggs yet per her pediatrician, so I'm wondering how she'll like those in a few months. Now that she's outgrown the dairy allergy, good lord. I'll give her just a few bites of something with cheese just so I don't overload her system, and she just goes "MMMMMMMM" the whole time she's eating it and starts to cry when she finishes the bite. Her mother's daughter :heart The kid doesn't cry, ever, unless food is involved.

I stuffed a leg of lamb with cloves of garlic, roasted it and then made Tzaziki, cut hunks off the base, whacked pitta beard in the microwave for 40 secs, stuffed pitta with lamb, Tzaziki, cooked cloves, pink salt and sriripachan hot sauce.

It was good. It's weird that the US regard lamb as luxury meat, you guys with your fried chicken and spicy tacos. Apart from the girl with the crackling pics that basically look a bit like fried aliens.

bully or coward - sure, that would suck, depending on context

unpleasant unless you have something he wants - welcome to adulthood.  seems to be the norm, where upfront friendliness is the exception.  Super Type A guys like him are pretty much uniformly dicks until you're useful.

I was training in a dojo in San Jose -- holy crap, like 15 years ago now -- when some Russian guy came in and said, "I want to fight your instructor. Our instructor politely declined, and the Russian looked like he wanted to cajole our shihan into fighting, but realized there were several other black belts there who probably wouldn't have been as... indulgent about petulance.

I wanted to say, "Dude, this isn't feudal Japan, you're not Musashi Miyamoto, and this isn't actually impressing anyone. Go join a fight league."

Sounds like Bobby Flay and the Russian would get along.

Gordon Ramsay at least seems capable of admitting when someone impresses him.  This is all based on his tv shows though.  I don't know anything about him outside of those.  Like on "the taste" or "Hell's Kitchen" he'll give props when it's due.  And Kitchen Nightmares is about helping half ass restaurants clean their shit up.

I find it easier to reconcile my hatred of Ramsay when faced with such insolent simplicity laced posts such as yours Flamengo.

The fact is, the purity of Kitchen Nightmares has been molested into something UTTERLY contrary to the series' original intention. And that fault lies at Americas doorstep, only their blind arrogance represses their deserved elucidation.

The use of the word extrapolates is also unimpressive to my huge brain.

That's pretty hardcore, I prefer white pudding to black but I'm slowly getting used to it. A year ago I always skipped the pudding but one day I forgot to mention it while ordering and when it showed up I decided to give it another go. It was so full of spices and tasted very good. Ever since I've been making it a habbit of always eating or trying some.

Yeah. It's not something you should eat on its own in large quantities.

Crème fraîche is used both hot and cold in French cuisine. It is often used to finish hot savory sauces; with fat content > 30%, curdling is not a problem.[1]. It is also the basis of many desserts and dessert sauces.

LOVE liver!  I never understood all the liver hate.  I think people just don't know how to cook it properly.  I think I liked boiled liver the best (ie in congee or hot pot).  It keeps the liver from drying out too quickly and the texture is snappy like a really good hot dog or sausage. :drool

Eschaton's first try at Bibimbap. It was pretty good, but no pickled vegetables hurt the taste a little bit (just soaked em in some vinegar for an hour before), and I def. needed more meat. I also need to figure out how these bowls work because my rice wasnt crunchy enough.

How are those bowls?  I've been wanting to be a few to play with for a while now.  Are they kind of like cast iron?  Do you need to presoak/season/ prep them in any way?

STL-bore is pretty big isn't? Someone go to dierbergs and tell me what I need to google to recreate their four bean salad. I was looking around online and none of the recipies seemed to be the same (of course I say that without bothering to try any of them :-\)

What is with the midwest and awesome grocery stores. Hy-Vee in Iowa, Dierbergs is St. Louis... fuck the east coast :'(

I'm not about to bag my own groceries. :yuck (:usacry)

Now that this kid eats real food, we've been doing most of our shopping at the Town & Country Whole Foods. I'm too good for the Brentwood Whole Foods, despite it being far more convenient. I'm not some kind of peasant or something.

The cioppino was from Anchor Oyster Bar in the Castro (San Francisco).  It had mussels, clams, white fish, prawns, and crab meat.

I love all their frozen pasta

I don't like dealing with frozen pasta; boiling it just takes a few extra minutes, and yields more consistent results!

From Trader Joe's, I like to get their pesto sauce, and their frozen shrimp. While the pasta's boiling, run the shrimp through some warm water to defrost, then toss in a frying pan with a little oil. Once they're plump, throw in the drained pasta, and a couple spoonfuls of pesto sauce.

Trader Joe's was pretty much the majority of my bachelor life.
