Playing Alundra right now.
:rejoice
Secret best Zelda.
Getting past this and moving forward was the best plan, especially since we have some PSOne RPGs coming to PSN before too long.
Let's not get THOSE rumors started. It is, alas, not the LUNARs, but these upcoming are not disappointing additions to PSN in the least. Should go up around E3ish, if all goes well.
may try Japanese Alundra next. no Working Designs balancing~
Hmm maybe I'll play SoTN for the eleventybillionth time. I modded my Xbox controller so the D-Pad ain't butt anymore.
I played some bushido blade with a friend this past weekend. I'll pay a ridiculous amount for a XBLA/PSN/Steam version with online play--$20. Don't upgrade the graphics or anything.

US version, bosses have like 5x more HP and your sword hits for half damage, I think? It was made BRUTALLY harder, or at least sloggier.

I don't know about Alundra, but Silhouette Mirage is pretty fucked. Japan version has unlimited ammo and lets you focus on actually playing the already weird and challenging game. U.S. version limits the ammo and does other things to make it a giant pain in the ass to play. WTF were they thinking making major balance changes to these games

argh, my Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero got damaged in the mail so bad that usps didn't even deliver it. :wag
i know it's an awesome game guys, you don't need to tell me how awesome it is.
What about Legend Of Legaia?
Ore no Ryouri had probably the coolest demo. I've always wanted the full game. The fact we never got a translation always devastated me. But I don't think you need to know Japanese to put it off. Still had one of the coolest and unique uses of the dual shock dual stick set up I've ever seen in a time when right sticks were used for more than just cameras.
Thinking of it, Ore no Ryouri would prolly work well on smartphones

PSX had the best JRPGs of all time.
The Gia, rpgamer, that sites belong in this thread too. Esp the GIA. Honest stuff.
DC, was rollcage really good? I only played the demo cd.

the reason both those sites were good is because Drinky Crow was the webmaster for both of them :O
Yeah, I remember playing the demo for Future Cop LAPD, G-Police and that 3D brawler I forget the name of several times over. The demo was the only reason to get the official magazine.
Another great thing about the 32 bit era, demo cd's. I played that mgs and ff8 demo to DEATH. I seriously watched the ff8 intro every day till it came out.
What was the name of that worms knock off with pigs in 3d? Shit was great. ( hogs of war?)

thegia was my favorite news site.Word, can't believe it's 12 years gone. Met my wife via their forums. :heart
I'm gonna relaunch the GIA (or at least thegia.com) later this year. Gonna "officialize" the archive and set up a Penny Arcade Report-style area for editorials and link-sharing.

that's it.
need copy of LINDA^3, man I miss the days of hardcore console games from JP. I mean the PSP is kinda what I'm looking for... but I prefer to play on console rather than handheld..

PS1 is one of my fave systems ever... so good. The RPGs were to die for. Valkyrie Profile, Suikoden 2, and motherfucking Star Oean 2 and Arc the Lad 2....
fuck the new systems, PS1 was the best. I love all the shitty 3D games with the awkward controls in the games. But the RPGs are where the system really stands out... Star Ocean 2, you can pickpocket your party members, hwo good is that?
Fuck I am so drunk. But seriously, I lvoe the PS1. Second favorite system behind the SNES, truly the golden age of gaming. The reason why it was so good is because the dev. costs were so cheap, so you got a lot of random JP companies releasing random shit on it, that had SOUL. Unlike most modern games. Check this out:

Popolocrois is one of those jrpgs I've wanted to play but couldn't due to language barrier.
:yuck Azure Dreams.
Yeah Azure is the wrong game I'm thinking of. One of those b tier rpgs. Thousand Arms! Right. It has been over ten years. Sorry.
on that same trip, I got Misdaventures of Tron Bonne, both for $5. FUCK THE CURRENT TRON BONNE PRICES TO HELL. $250 for a complete copy lick my balls :'(

Just WHY is that so rare? :wtf
To be fair, DMC3 US still used the difficulty of the jp version iirc. It's just that normal mode is japan hard mode, and easy is japan normal.

MML2's price isn't that crazy though. A complete copy can be had for roughly $80. Not sure why you'd want it unless you were just collecting, tho. It kinda sucks.

YouTube Soundtrack Playlist (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL2639DF160391AC0B). The game came out the same day in Japan as Jet Set Radio, very similar visual and musical style.
I didn't remember that either, but I wanted to know which one came came first, and...it's a tie!

I'm trying to remember if I've played Slap Happy Rhythm Busters. It looks familiar. Is it on dreamcast? I played more DC import fighters than ps1.
HOly fuckin shit those games are awesome, whatever happened to JapanYeah, I moved here and started working in the Japanese game industry just in time for it to become a detriment, rather than a benefit to my résumé.
Dew Prism sounds vaguely like an euphemism for something sexual.
"I gave my gf a dew prism last night, and she won't return my calls."
FFTSW and almost dying is what happened. Then they got Yoichi Wads, a conservative businessman as president whose main priority is always in profit. Of course now SE is as the point where if they don't release FF regularly they'll die.
Then again that is half their fault for failing to continuing to craft successful new ip's, so fell into a loop they themselves created by playing it safe. We can only hope the new SE president brings us back to a time when SE were experimental but I fear they've ran off almost half their talented staff.

Your description of the PS1 reminds me of the old prototype Sony made for the system. What do you think of this?
I think it looks like a CD player with controller ports.
I think to this day the original PlayStation is the classiest looking console.
the Pamela Anderson game is more playable than I thought it would be.
mainly because the combat is like the easiest QTEs ever--
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcFkrV3-RRk
so it's a QTE-based beat em up with some Hogan's Alley sections...on rails. that's the safest game design I've ever seen.
the opening cut scene seems like the set up for a porn movie
Do you have Suikoden II in it?
Ok.

BS, you can't get that much for the whole PSX library
Threads of Fate and Brave Fencer Musashi are the superior action rpgs.
i'm buying this ps1 shit, if anyone is selling.
tobal 2 quest mode is hard as fuck. love how the game has randomized tripping on back dash...it's like they knew i killed the first game on my first try in 15 years by backdash timer scamming.

Is it random? I recall it was the same as backdash stumble settings per character. Then you can unlock characters in the dungeon such as Sylph (or was it Dryad?) which was the same as Gren, but with no backdash stumble.

Imagine this with a more modern paint finish with no controller ports, eject, reset, and power made small LED buttons along the front panel and a wii esque disc tray that glows blue.
I want to make a mock up of that when I get home. :gladbron

seemed random, unless it's like a running tally that stumbles you each time you backdash a certain amount of times.
in that case, I want that char because I use Gren!
also, aside from shmups and namco fighters, Tobal 1+2 are the only 60fps 3D ps1 games I can think of.

I'm going to be playing via emulator so no big. :obama
any here play X-files on PS1?
It's the only game I don't recognize. I've been curious about it for years.
Bork, would you be willing to part with that copy of Persona 1?
hell yeah! That's a great collection.
How is Silent Bomber? I've been looking into picking that up.
Damn nice collection. Jelly. How are the Lupin and Macross games? I played the demo to an import Macross game and loved it. Iirc it was a rail shooter? Or an Ace Combat clone? Either way, was great. Is that it? What kind of game is the Lupin game?
HAHAHAHA
You bought One Piece?! did you buy it thinking it had anything to do with the manga?! :rofl
BTW, awesome collection, bork.
I remember when one piece for psx dropped and people thought it was tied to the manga/anime. :lol
The Lupin game is a simplistic music game. Just time the button presses to various Lupin-related music videos. It has the Pizzicato Five Lupin theme, so I bought it. :P
Macross was originally released on the Saturn and ported to the PS1. It's a 2D side-scrolling shooter based on the original movie and has original animation plus clips from the movie, plus the soundtrack is from the movie too IIRC. It's a pretty easy game but they did such a good job of making a good movie-based game out of it...
...Whereas that Cowboy Bebop game is total CRAP why do I still have that? :lol :yuck
No Grandia Bork Lazer? :'(
ever played this?
Damn bork, abusing his mod powers again, locking threads! :maf
Used to have it; sold it off. I got rid of almost all the JRPGs I had- bought them for collecting purposes and then decided I didn't care.

As a latino, I think I'm offended by this travesty.
that's not a churro. in that screen, you're slicing chikuwa (a tube shaped fish paste) to add to ramen.
you can get churros in japan, but they're pretty much ordinary, basic ones. nothing exciting or wacky.
