This is a disaster in the making coupled with the reputation system.
Suddenly Nintendos barebone online approach looks amazing compared to this.
-
Holy shit. :lol
-
Don't get banned then.
-
this is actually illegal in many countries xbone is launching in. It might even go against European Union laws which basically cover most of Europe. I expect a long drawn out law suit.
-
What's with all the GAF linking lately?
-
I get 5 cents for every click. But youre right captain it shouldnt be done.

Source? Valve can also lock out access to banned users' Steam libraries.

Bro, there are so may fegs though
-
Fyi you can still play your steam games offline I think

wasn't Valve's polices deemed illegal by a German court? Drawn out court case in progress anyway. Also, the Norwegian consumer bureau (forbrukerrådet) released a statement saying the right to resale was fundamental and they hoped consumers would shun the xbone which I take to mean they aren't going to start shuffling paper just yet, but when RROD was a hotness they eventually forced stores to give out replacement units because MS's policy on the matter was too poor.
I would assume Sweden is similar to Norway on consumer rights?

You're thinking of VAC bans. Those lock you out from VAC secured servers, but nowhere else. Getting your entire account suspended is another thing entirely.

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5406-WFZC-5519 Suspension
Yeah, I mean, this was expected. Steam does this, Origin does this, I imagine if it were possible to get your Apple ID banned it would probably do this too?
Origin did it kind of weirdly though. You could get your game library jacked for getting banned on their forums, because those accounts where merged.
And them adopting existing policies is better than adopting worse policies, true, but it's still shitty for perpetuating such a stupid system.
-
Still you know things like steam dont have a reputation system like xbl does.

I don't think any of those laws cover downloadable content. You're absolutely right about the physical disc though. Microsoft is going to find it difficult to sell those in Europe.

You'd hope they wouldn't ban people from their own game libraries for being shitheels online, but I guess it's not impossible.

No, downloadable content is still a bit murky, and we have certainly lost rights there, but the retail discs functioning as delivery mechanisms for digital content (essentially stripping consumer rights from purchased goods by claiming them as digital services) is going to face resistance. Forbrukerrådet is of course a bureaucratic slowpoke and they need noise to get moving, which is why they never really got on PC games' ass over one-time-use codes, but xbox is far more of a everyday-man appliance and them putting out a notice about the xbone straight after the reveal of these polices indicates that they are at least paying attention.
-
Interesting. Where did you get that from? I've been banned a few times in WoW so Im not really keen on this kind of system.
@Brob/arch: European courts are only getting to digital content now, I think we all know the kind of demands they will make as proven by the ruling in Germany. It will take a while but the companies will have to bend over.
-
Nobody is going to bend over to fix this for video games. We'll have to wait for the services to be much more prevalent and then for some landmark case where someone like Apple or Amazon fuck up massively.
-
Oh yeah that's what I mean.
Digital has to be more established before this happens, next 5/10 years.
-
Stuff like this could be a big problem in the future, more and more games are "blurring the line" between single and online player.Get banned from PSN/XBL=console becomes useless brick, subscription money gone too.
On PC you can at least use other services in the worst case scenario.

http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/05/microsoft-office-wont-go-subscription-only-anytime-soon/
Like Adobe, we think subscription software-as-a-service is the future. The benefits to consumers are huge. Subscribers are always up-to-date. They get the latest and most complete applications. They can use subscriptions across the multitude of devices people use today. Web services like SkyDrive and applications like Skype are also more easily integrated with subscription services, like the new Office 365 Home Premium.
However, unlike Adobe, we think people's shift from packaged software to subscription services will take time. Within a decade, we think everyone will choose to subscribe because the benefits are undeniable. In the meantime, we are committed to offering choice—premier software sold as a package and powerful services sold as a subscription.
If only MS listens to their self.
-
Likely two completely different divisions that have nothing to do with each other, mcd
-
Uhm Adobe has a completely different model. You pay per month and get the software.
If Xbox One would have setup like Netlfix but for lets say 15/20 euro a month i'd be onboard definitely. Now THEN you could say you are licensing games.
-
I'm stretching it here with Office (my point there was that the push for all digital is still too early) but I wish MS would hurry up with unifying the Phone and Windows OSs.
-
This won't last long. Some furious Mom will get on the local news after her little shithead gets himself banned and loses hundreds of dollars worth of games, that story will get picked up by the AP, suddenly it's everywhere, MS backpedals with the quickness
-
Its the same when people bitch about their infant spending 5000 bucks in IAP.
-
LOL at the justifications on the first two pages alone:
Here's a thought; Maybe you shouldn't get fucking banned

I'm not gonna watch that, but I'd like to know if the hat is addressed in the interview.
-
He basically spinned everything to flexibility so maybe his hat is also due to flexibility.
-
Major doing that overtime shilling for his paycheck
-
Leper everyone that commented about the hat and not the chick.
-
Poor Major Larry, that's a position I can't envy

I was going to post something similar, but then she started talking. She's got a grating voice. Great look though.

Yeah, he seems like an actually nice guy; too bad MS policies put him in a position where he can't talk about stuff that is either TBA, or will go off like landmine under his career's feet.

Have you seen Titan Fall? Enough said. Conversation over.
-
Its really stupid to push titanfall cause
1. Its not a launch title
2. Its ea ergo it will come to ps4 too sooner rather then later
-
Plus it is also 360 and PC. Enough said.

Those people are their target (gaming)consumer,Titan will be pushed hard.

I'm guessing it's in EA's favor to push the 360 version, but Microsoft wants to sell its newer hardware. Apparently Respawn isn't even directly working on the 360 version.
