Also, the Norwegian consumer bureau (forbrukerrådet) released a statement saying the right to resale was fundamental and they hoped consumers would shun the xbone which I take to mean they aren't going to start shuffling paper just yet, but when RROD was a hotness they eventually forced stores to give out replacement units because MS's policy on the matter was too poor.

I would assume Sweden is similar to Norway on consumer rights?

You're thinking of VAC bans. Those lock you out from VAC secured servers, but nowhere else. Getting your entire account suspended is another thing entirely.

Origin did it kind of weirdly though. You could get your game library jacked for getting banned on their forums, because those accounts where merged.

And them adopting existing policies is better than adopting worse policies, true, but it's still shitty for perpetuating such a stupid system.

No, downloadable content is still a bit murky, and we have certainly lost rights there, but the retail discs functioning as delivery mechanisms for digital content (essentially stripping consumer rights from purchased goods by claiming them as digital services) is going to face resistance. Forbrukerrådet is of course a bureaucratic slowpoke and they need noise to get moving, which is why they never really got on PC games' ass over one-time-use codes, but xbox is far more of a everyday-man appliance and them putting out a notice about the xbone straight after the reveal of these polices indicates that they are at least paying attention.

@Brob/arch: European courts are only getting to digital content now, I think we all know the kind of demands they will make as proven by the ruling in Germany. It will take a while but the companies will have to bend over.
