Gaben coming to save you dirty, undeserving dirtpeople motherfuckers from physical media and closed operating systems
:rejoice

And none of them will be Half Life 3.
-
Controller, Linux-based Steam Box, Half-Life 3 exclusive to Linux (therefore validating the existence of vidya forums so we can witness the meltdown). :rejoice

And none of them will be Half Life 3.
One can only hope.
-
Watch none of them be software.
-
Valve could never release another game again and still have one of the bigger influences on 21st century gaming, period. Cry moar.
-
Geoff Keighly's descent into being unpaid PR for game companies continues unabated.

We've decided to integrate a crowdfunding platform within Greenlight for....ease of use

Wouldn't surprise me if there was some kind of crowdfunding integrated into Steam very soon [although Early Access Beta is already halfway there].

Series 2 trading cards :hyper

Hopefully one of the things they'll announce is Steam not being a gigantic piece of shit anymore!
-
Maybe an offline mode that works ~70% of the time!?
Would love to see that.

Half-Life 3 will happen long before this does.

I hope that .gif is true except that Valve did it only to fuck with people

HL3 is like Dre's Detox. Why would Dre waste his time releasing an album when he's making millions off headphones. Likewise, why would Valve waste time on HL3 when they're swimming in Steam monies
watch it be HL2 for Vita or something :sabu
-
And none of them will be Half Life 3.
Came in here to say that. :-[
:'(

Left 4 Dead 3 and 2 pieces of DLC :rejoice
-
One of the three announcements will be the integration of Neal Stephenson's CLANG sword-combat mechanics into a Half-Life spinoff featuring Gordon Freeman's brother John.
-
Left 4 Dead 3 and 2 pieces of DLC :rejoice
Left 4 Dead 3 and Source 2 were leaked last month. Only one piece of DLC I'm afraid :-\
maybe Source engine 2 is like super Unity. maybe Source engine 2 is code for Alien Swarm 2.
-
Maybe Steam will offer a sub model
-
There would be no point due to DOTA2 (and Steam), but I wonder what a Valve RTS would look like. I remember hearing rumors about them working on on.
-
Just wait until the Dota 2 map editor hits.
You'll get your Warcraft 4 before Blizzard even thinks of a design draft.
-
zomg almost 12 hours to go
*tweaks nipples in anticipation*
-
Wasnt expecting HL3 so.
They wont make it unless they know it can be huge.
-
HL3, as a single player 12 hour corridor shooter, doesn't fit Valve's current corporate culture.
They're really big on the 'games as a service' ideology and exploiting integrating community work into their products.
-
they should really call the lower end "plays indies and streams games from your PC" version the steam gaming companion cube and offer a dolled up version for the portal fanbase.

first thing my daughter said when i told her and my son about the announcement was she hoped it was going to look like a companion cube.
-
it's no surprise that you homo are so excited for the gaycube :supergay
-
I hope they release an official controller. I like the 360 controller but an official steam one with steam buttons and such would be nice
-
Steam OS!
-
hey, look, it's gabe's hubris moment
-
linux
:neogaf
-
So is this like the Android sales model? Give away the OS free to hardware manufacturers and make money on the built in store (Google store, Steam store, etc.)
-
:yeshrug
-
All this because of that shitty microsoft windows 8 shop.
-
For fucks sakes...
a) linux
b) improve your existing client first, for the love of fuck
c) linux
-
What do you dislike about the current PC client? Its slowness or something else?
-
Even when it's not hanging and /or crashing, it's slow as shit
-
It's just massively in need of an update. It's not very user friendly.
-
It's stable for me. I'm mostly annoyed by that it's always much slower than my regular browser. Making it user friendly is not an easy task with all these new features.
-
So what was the big deal here?
-
this is it?
-
There are two more announcements left this week
-

superior pc race getting shafted :sabu

There are two more announcements left this week
so Steambox with this OS
Half Life 3 exclusive :shaq

It's better than Origin/Desura/PSN/XBLA/iTunes/Google Play.
-
COG is right, Steam's UI is pretty 90's. It's not iTunes bad but it's still worse than the other services Joe listed (UI-wise.)
-
I really should design UIs for a living. Everything would be simple, easy to use, and suck your dick.
If you're a woman, it would grow you a dick, then suck it.

at least with all of those i can read the on-screen text without using a fucking magnifying glass
-
I'm pretty curious about SteamOS, but don't know where I need it. Still, I'm as or more likely to bite on SteamBox than XBone or PS4.
-

Woah, woah, woah. No way is the redesigned PSN store (pretty to look at, horrible to load) better than Steam. Neither is the X-box Live Marketplace.
Origin's the only one on that list I can say is better than Steam.
Speaking of Steam's UI... redoing the entire stat page and other things with this new update... :lol ::) Not bad, but man, I hate when UI designers do "minor changes" like that. What is the point?

Steam. Not user friendly? Please indulge.
-
think they will announce controller today.
-
Am I going to be using a mouse and a keyboard in the living-room?
If you want. But Steam and SteamOS work well with gamepads, too. Stay tuned, though - we have some more to say very soon on the topic of input.
looking forward to announcement three

We've been Gaberolled?
-
How about that controller?
I'm terrified by nonvirtual virtual thumpads. No, thank you.
-
I don't get it... dual analogs suck for control. We're all just USED TO IT at this point. The controller is the only legitimately interesting thing so far. Why is everybody so freaked out by it?
-
Trackpads for movement suck cocks that's why.

change is difficult
these things.... they take time.
-
The new controller looks pretty cool to me. I embrace change if it's an improvement, and dual analog sticks could definitely be improved on.
People complaining just because 'it looks different', maybe take another look at it?
If Gabe can bring mouse/kb type accuracy and movement to a controller, that would be great.
-

I don't agree with this at all. In fact I remember mentioning that I was slightly disappointed that neither PS 4 or Xbox one were really adding anything control wise and the prevailing opinion of the posters at that time was that the current controllers were fine and it was a good thing that nobody was doing anything "innovative".
Dual analog works for a wide variety of games. There is a reason it has become the standard on consoles. It wasn't just coincidence. Now if there is a better format that can take over and is easy to use, and doesn't involve a lot of hardware then cool.
-
A very definite advantage is that you're not accelerating and decelerating the cursor as you would with a stick. Well, not unless the game in question treats the pads that way.
-
yeah, depends what you mean by control. I know a touchpad is better for aiming, like, this is something I've been convinced of for years and have been waiting for someone to do. But it's the left stick behavior, the general character movement, that's the hurdle for this thing. Always thought it'd be analog stick on the left, touchpad on the right.

Every single impression from devs we've seen is positive thus far
:umad
Maybe mad, but I don't see a lie in his opinion. Like him, Gabe and Company need demo days (or send me a demo unit :-*) to convince me. Developers say a lot of things, but that doesn't make them the "authority" like the mass-consumer base. If the consumer-base doesn't like it and doesn't buy it, well... it's a "flop" no matter how "innovative" some people find it.

Given they've said people can modify the API and controller hardware, it's only a matter of time until someone does that I feel.
I think the biggest thing for me from the controller announcement is Valve going "okay, if you don't like this you can hack it yourself." It's gonna be realllllll interesting to see what hardware and software nerds do in regards to the "OS" and controller to improve them.
