Let me preface this post with saying: I love buying gifts for people. I think I've posted here about being a little dumb about buying my family things here before, but I just enjoy the act and paying what I can forward.

That said:

It's weird trying to find gifts for yourself and struggling to pad your own wishlist out. But that's the hidden cost of having disposable income and little financial sense. :'( #firstworldproblems

My hesitation in fully signing up this year is because I feel bad for whoever gets me based on my paltry wishlist filled with expensive things (that I actually just use more as a bookmark for myself of things to buy when I have the money.)

Although actually, the best gifts from last year's SS were the cheap ones.

Tasty Meat I had so much fun buying you stuff and others that I did last year. It wasn't so much that you were hard to shop for, I just had to rise to the occasion and get creative. Don't be afraid to take some chances and get stuff that isn't on peoples lists. You might find that those gifts are the most rewarding, I know I certainly did.

Seeing how some has sent or already getting ready to send their stuff, I just wanna tell my SS that I'll be away over Thanksgiving break, from the 22nd 'till the 29th, so there's no need to rush lol.

And speaking of which, how do you guys usually do this: do you order everything package it and send it, or just order a couple of stuff from different places and have them arrive at different times?

I already have the Bill Simmons one thanks to an awesome Bore SS past, and the History of the ABA. Books about sport, history or conspiracy type stuff are my favorites. Also local candies are great too, since Australian stuff is pretty dull outside of Tim Tams. Basically anything I can open without my fiance giving me weird looks is fine.

I can't think of much.  There's a ton of local food stuff I can buy in Brooklyn probably some crafts or something similar, but i dunno if my giftee would be into all that.

Went to USPS last night and waited nearly 2 hours to get some stuff I needed. They stayed open till 9pm to make sure to get everyone's gifts out, I was shocked. I'm still waiting on USPS smartpost aka the slowest thing since the advent of modern logistical delivery systems. Oh well I just sit here with my wrapping table ready to wrap stuff up. I'm kinda getting discouraged at this year and my lack of finding anything truly awesome. I think that just says more about how I'm feeling about the holidays in general this year. Which is to say I'm pretty depressed about this years holidays for whatever reason.

Yeah I've never copped shipping too bad myself, I've mailed shit to the US and Korea in past SS, was never more than $20NZ (around $15US) for the package, which is very reasonable IMO.

I remember Billy Rygar (or whatever he was called before he left) FedExed me some shit from Cali to NZ one year as his first gift got nailed by customs. The docket on that said shipping was like $70US  :-X

I got a Retro Duo in the mail today, though there wasn't any return address on the package, nor a card or note or anything... just an Amazon Prime package. Truly a 'secret' Santa! But thank you, this is a great gift... I've been interested in trying out some of the retro clones and seeing how accurate they are to the original systems... especially since my front-loader NES is annoying to get to work some times (my brother replaced the pin connector and now the games are almost impossible to take out).

Captain Commando manga which, while totally sweet because I freaking love Captain Commando, was made even MORE awesome by Sceneman's letter describing how it's so I can remember Capcom when they were actually awesome  :lol Yes!  The only thing I like better than Capcom manga is trolling modern Capcom!

Plus he drew this freaking awesome picture and wrote a letter on the pac-man notepad I gave him for SS (btw, someone screwed up since we got each other in SS).

I missed this. What we call "Tahini/Tahiniah candy" or "Rahash" is indeed a unique sweet flavor-wise and texture-wise. Express shipping my gifts tomorrow. A series of unfortunate events with my landlady ended up delaying this so appallingly; I do apologize, but I hope my Santee still cares about Christmas once the package arrives (hopefully soon!).

In the meantime, I haven't received anything yet from my Santerbearz. Hopefully my landlady hiding a pick-up slip in my room I found three weeks after the fact hasn't resulted in my Santa's gift being returned to sender instead of my crucial Santee gift as I assume it was. I just actioned a contingency plan for that, so my Santee should be taken care of no matter what. If my Santa ends up with the short end of the stick, I'll pay the shipping rates to see it through. Sorry for the mess I've made of this, but all should be well soon enough.

FUCK YES! A copy of Blazing Dragons. I remember wanting this game as a lad because they used to run two-page spreads on Next Gen and Game Players. Now I can enjoy the comedic stylings of Cheech Marin, in video game form.

Wasn't a big strategy gamer back in the day either so Outpost 2 is definitely a reason to fire up DosBox when I get all settled.

So OK, I just received my package back due to it not being claimed by the recipient. I spent close to $50 on international shipping, not to mention the cost of the items... so what should I do? I haven't even seen my SS on the Bore or whatnot.
