Drive, Pacific Rim, and Oldboy directors tell us what they think about the new MGS5 trailer!
"Refn compared Kojima's work to 'the spirits of Dostoyevsky, Stanley Kubrick and Caravaggio.' "

I could've sworn there was an old story about Park Chan-Wook dismissing Kojima and sure enough here it is.

"I can see why my films remind people of computer games, but I've never played one. Actually, I was approached by a Japanese designer of a PlayStation game called Metal Gear Solid. When I met him, I found that there was nothing really to talk about. But I was told that I was idolized in the world of computer games."

That comment in the end nailed it on the head. His game is 70% movies.

I'm still a bit of a Kojima stan after all these years and even I wouldn't want to see a movie he directed.

You already have. :teehee
-
Kojima should not be encouraged. :snoop

It was a good trailer. It was also pretty well directed. Not really seeing a problem.
-
I haven't watched it.

So grimdark. Much layers. Wow.
-
Now contrast that with attaching balloons to sheep and hiding in cardboard boxes.
Not to implay that a guy smearing dead people's ash on his face is to be taken seriously.
-
Wow the director of Only God Forgives likes self-indulgent tripe. I'm shocked. SHOCKED!

It looks like a FMV you'd see on NarutoKurosaki96's YouTube account. Only the video is set to a song from the game and not Evanescence's 'Bring me to Life.'
::)
Whatever man. It's a really well put together trailer. It really dosen't look amateurish at all, so I really don't know what the fuck you're talking about. The action scenes alone are well done. No, they don't look like some Weaboo Naturo Advent Children shit. There's really nothing super ridiculous on display in choreography. They have the modern "handheld documentary" style, yet everything is clear and you see all the actions.
Like you can dislike MGS and Kojima, I don't care, but it's really not a bad trailer.
And please, the song is better then white boy angst music.
So much salt.

That part where Snake wipes the ashes of his dead friends all over his face was incredible, one of the most impactful cinematic moments of all time.

Kojima is an amazing trailer director. Can't disagree with that. ZoE2 trailer omg.
He's a pretty good cutscene director too when he doesn't self-indulge and keeps cutscenes to a couple of mins. He's got good style but his problem is lack of self-editing so some scenes go on and on. MGS4 is a joke, like I think he was trolling and making fun of himself and how much people would put up with, with his 40 min long cutscenes at that point.
MGSV GZ cutscenes were fine. MGSV seems back to form.
-
His problem is he's cramming his passion for a passive medium into an active one.

Modern Japanese film is pretty... Uhhhhh.... From what I've seen
-
At least Korea is delivering solid films. What happened to Japanese film anyways?

Kiyoshi Kurosawa :rock
-
Japan needs another good live action film director a hell of a lot more than it needs another long-winded game director. Kojima made the wrong career choice.
All his films would be 6 hours long due to redundant dialog.

Play4Real missed a decent joke by not copy/pasting this article on their site.
