cousin just sent me a picture of marinated jackfruit. she lives in the bay area and loves Sparklehorse :fbm

Is this the new wave? remember once, lobsters were food deemed fit only for australian prisoners and untouchables.

I agree with vularai, it has to be peasanty but able to weave a narrative that can elevate it to artisan status.

I'm thinking pickled things and jams and spreads.

oxtail-bacon and sweet habanero spread.... :larry

the reason I listed this one is because I went to the butcher last week to get some for stew. I noticed that the price had jumped 2$/lb. When i asked, he replied that ''a lot of young dudes like you have been buying them recently''

In New York it's the collar of the animal, especially pork and fish.  Also cauliflower is being served a lot.

Damn, need to do a gratinated cauliflower casserole soon.

Living in a country the size of California, this is actually pretty easy for me, outside of coffee and a few creature-comfort imports. Supermarkets here list which area their produce comes from, by prefecture. Sadly, I’m still sketchy on buying produce from Fukushima, though I know that area is still struggling to recover from the earthquake, tsunami, and reactor failure four years ago.

imo integration and peripheralization is anything but trying to do the right thing.

Quote
“It’s kind of discouraging to see stuff like this happen, but that’s part of life and economics,” said David Schnorr, the president of the Quinoa Corporation of Los Angeles, one of the largest importers of quinoa in the United States, which has worked with Bolivian producers since the 1980s.

10 dollar burgers crack me up. All they do is make the bun bigger and add something stupid like peanut butter to it.

If only, this is just a burger with a slice of tomato.

No fries no nothing.

Now I'll admit in Denmark this is a normal price ALMOST, but not if the place is posturing to be some authentic down to earth place.

Jalapeno Cheeseburger with some spicy cheese: 9.99

The fuck? 3 dollars for 3 jalapeno caps and some shit ass processed cheese?

Hate it when people dont see through it either, like this Tommis place opened up in the now trendy meatpacking district. The decor is irritatingly hipster.

These places set out to be special from the get go, how about they just make good burgers and if they are still around in 25 years with the same decor they can be famous and a local legend.

I just want to open a mickey d right there to spite all these manufactured hipsters
