Writing was on the wall when they brought their services to iOS and Android. I wish they would have put up a real fight, because they were the closest competitor to Apple's amazing software. Android is lazy and shitty and gets worse and worse over time.

Wow, I'm sorry to all those five people using a Windows phone.

 :lol

Well you got me there

Samsung is shitting up the Android marketplace. I still argue that Google hasn't done enough to fix their platform.

It sucks because Windows Phone had by far the superior aesthetic. iPhone has been merely good. Android has always been trash.

For once I agree with you

I still use a Lumia 640 :yeshrug

it's getting increasingly janky over time, headline is misleading as this article is just about the end of support for older versions of the OS though.

I'm talking about iOS 7+.

Windows Phone used Metro, which was completely flat and highly typography-based (stemming from it being an evolution of the Zune HD's UI, which was great.)

Material Design shares some traits like an emphasis on digital authenticism vs. skeuomorphism and a rejection of gradients in favor of solid colors, but the similarities end there. Drop shadows separate various layers of the UI and Material Design highly stresses motion design as a core tenet.

MD is also more icon-based (vs. Metro's typography and tiles), but only to an extent (and doesn't get nearly as absurd as iOS 11's impenetrable Control Center (http://cdn.iphonehacks.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/iOS-11-Control-Center-customized.jpeg).) MD apps are structured around a header, hamburger menu, tabs, and the floating action button - the latter of which gives users immediate and prominent access to the current screen's most-useful function.

I encourage you to read the Material Design Guidelines (https://material.io/guidelines/), which are comprehensive, consistent, and beautiful.

Found the OS quite pleasing aesthetically. Certainly more than IOS or Anrdoid. Too bad the rest kinda sucked.

Still can't get over how well the music service and OS were integrated. Being on Android has been a huge downgrade in this regard. Google Music is a POS as far as functionality and UI.
