What would you do if you were the age you are right now when Unforgiven sweeped in 1992 oscars?

Nothing. I'd just wait for it to come out on VHS and watch it. I'd probably be more disappointed though, because I'd see all that hype first hand and then see the movie didn't deserve any of it

I still can't believe you didn't understand that movie. Even the slightest knowledge of American history and the Western genre is all that's needed to comprehend the film's themes.
You have absolutely no eye for subtlety. I pity you.
Err, an example of what? Look, man, Unforgiven is about the whitewashing of America's frontier history and western expansionism and tearing down the violent, heroic myths that arose from that period in the form of the traditional Western film.

That's all well and good but it doesn't excuse the movie's flaws. I know enough about American history to tell you yes, that was indeed a savage period in the US - yet that's not even portrayed in the movie. Instead we get a pussy ass sherriff and a town that lets a black guy fuck prostitutes (as if that would EVER happen in 1880). So please, don't talk to me about American history.
What was the relevence of Eastwood repeating the same lines over and over again? I must be too ignorant to understand why he had to tell the audience "no, I used to be a no good dirty son of a bitch killer back in the day but my...wife straightened me out" every ten minutes?

Yes, I'm so ignorant. ::)
he's NOT a reformed killer -- he *is* a killer. his "sermons" are LIES. there are no heroes in the movie -- everyone is evil, and the man who lies to himself the most is the worst of them all.

Don't you get the meaning behind the repetition? He's a bad man who's trying to convince himself that he's reformed and that he's no longer violent and out-of-control. He's basically repeating a lie and trying to make it true. He desperately wants to believe (and wants others to reassure him) that he's a moral man, especially because he's getting older and death is getting closer. Look at how quickly he decides to take the job to murder a man, and recruits the Morgan Freeman character.
he wasn't tamed. he knew what he was getting into, and he wanted to do it, despite his pleas to the audience. he was a bad, merciless man, and we only liked him because the movie taught us to side with vengeful prostitutes and greedy hired guns. it was a great performance from clint.
I'm not impressed at all by this opinionated take on such a mediocre film

maybe something simpler would be more to your tastes: the quick and the dead, maybe?
I didn't like Citizen Kane. He wasn't evil enough. Now maybe if Darth Vader was the bad guy...
The Nazisd should have been aliens. And Bergman's role should of been played by a latina with a large ass.I didn't like Citizen Kane. He wasn't evil enough. Now maybe if Darth Vader was the bad guy...
I didn't like Casablanca. Why didn't Humphrey Bogart end up with Ingrid Bergman? So lame. Also, they should have killed more Nazis in an awesome action-packed shootout at the end.
i hated fried green tomatoes. why couldn't we see more of kathy bates' tits?:-\

What movies would you qualify as masterpieces, O Man of No Taste?
News: Phoenix Dark doesn't "get" Unforgiven - let's all LOL at him!
Jesus, I have read PD's shitty reviews before, but this is the worst. He didn't even understand the movie.

It would have been better if Kane had a shrimp boat or fought in a war or shook hands with Woodrow Wilson.I didn't like Citizen Kane. He wasn't evil enough. Now maybe if Darth Vader was the bad guy...
Citizen Kane is my favorite movie ever.
Can someone explain Singin' In The Rain? I don't get it.The rain represents bitter Sega fanboy tears. The singing represents fanboy spin in the face of a downpour from Sony.

Yeah, it's one of the worst things I've ever read. Never have I seen someone miss every single thematic undertone in a film...

to his "credit", he'd probably already selected unforgiven as his "bash movie" long before he actually sat down and watched it. he's kinda predictable like that. trouble is, this time, he really picked the wrong movie.

Yeah, this reeks of pre-planned Internet persona hijinks. Wrong movie to do it with, though.
himu, as evilbore's resident gay black man, does hating unforgiven sound like something a brother would do?
Bullshit. Anyone can tell you I was looking forward to watching the movie.

the best movie to troll is either i :heartbeat huckabees or garden state
the trolling for spider-hyphen-man 3 will be spectacular
willco will run squealing into the night
I bet PD never imagined the shitstorm his Unforgiven review would create. He needs to print out that review, frame it, and put it up on his bedroom wall.

I'm not vouching for Spider-Man 3.
