it also played like ass. Crappy controls, crappy aiming, everything about it sucked. Too bad because the themes and story were first class, but the actual gameplay was handled by distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.

Didn't it sell like 9,000 copies or something ridiculously small like that?  I think the sales may have been affected by the godawful dubbing.

The game fucking rocks. It owns and I want to replay it.

The first month it sold less than 25k.

It's really because the mainstream press expected it to be fucking GTA in Japan and gave it 6's and ridiculous bullshit like that.

It was the best Sega game in ages too, and it bombed.

Let's not forget to mention that the script was written for juvenile teens like Himuro, you can tell from his posts.

fucking dog simulators, feeding the fucking dog, crossing the fucking dog, babysitting the fucking kid, doing the same fucking combo over and over, distinguished mentally-challenged fucking everything, what the fucking shit fuck.

The Japanese version's script isn't anything like that. I don't know why Sega of America decided to do that at all.

Doing the same combos over and over? That's you. The game's interactive weapons and environments gave me an incentive NOT to use the same moves over and over.

If you think Yakuza had bad voice acting, go and play Baten Kaitos. Haruka is the only person in this game with truly horrible voice acting.

I have no problems with the combat in this game. Yeah it does get a little repetitive, but there's all sorts of weapons you can use and you learn newer moves later on. Nothing is forcing you to keep doing the same combo over and over.

Nothing is forcing me from doing different combos either, and if I can achieve the same result with that, why bother?

Who is complaining about voice acting? They may say FUCK a lot, but they can at least say it right. Well, some of them. SHOT THE FACK AP

The first game sold poorly enough that any parties interested in licensing it would be put off.  It's not like it has a sizable niche fanbase drooling in anticipation.  Also, it will look too poor very soon.

But any publisher could see that Sega completely fucked it up when advertising and localizing it.

But now it's more than a year later, and the game doesn't look good in comparison to other new releases.  Plus, localization for such a voice heavy game would be costly for anyone but a large company; precisely the kind of company that would roll their eyes at the original game's sales.

It would be enough if they just subtitled it, but I know that will never happen. :(

Btw Himuro, I just fucked up the Triads and their boss. It was in chapter 9. :hyper

I was looking forward to it before release, but playing it at DigitalLife changed my mind. I played about 60 seconds of the tutorial.

"Remember this combo"
"Perform it"
"Also remember these 20 combos"
"Perform them one by one"

I walked away with no intention of buying it, I want to play a game, not memorize tons of unnecessary crap like a high school math final.

The game sold pretty well in Japan. Bombed everywhere else, however. Doesn't help that it was expensive as hell to make too, and that I think Sega probably got halfway to breaking even.

Demi liked it; Himu, why did you dislike it?

It has extremely loose and crappy controls, too much emphasis Sonic and friends mentality, average levels, and questionable mechanics (the character switching thing is pretty wonky).

Not enough meat to it, and completely average all around. Still better than Shadow and Sonic 360/ps3 though. But considerably worse than Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, and those were average to begin with.

To keep this topic going, rank the sonic games (you played):

Console ones:

1. Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles (linked up together :bow)
2. Sonic The Hedgehog 2
3. Sonic Adventure
4. Sonic The Hedgehog
5. Sonic Heroes
6. Sonic Adventure 2 (sucked)

The final boss fight OWNED. Holy shit was it crazy. I didn't bother with the weapons in my inventory, because  the environment was nothing but couches and chairs and shit, and it was too AWESOME not to use them. I used my charge kick to move the couches out of the way towards the final boss, and he was just knocked over repeatedly. Goddamn was that final boss the shit.

Dude, the fight before the final boss fight was annoying. THOSE GUNNERS
Someone gave me a bulletproof vest earlier on, so it wasn't too bad for me. Plus I learned his final move just before that fight. So fun to do and it made fighting multiple people much easier. It's the one where he grabs the enemy at the end of his combo.

I got a table thrown at me during the final boss fight. I wasn't expecting him to pick up items too. :lol

Bullet proof vest is fine and all but those gunners surrounded you and your bulletproof vest means nothing if they get behind you.

What're your favorite heat moves? I love the heat move you get if you have a pair of pliars (I often found them in the alleyways during fights). Kazuma grabs the enemy's hang and cuts off one of his fingers. It rocks.

I didn't even know that there were pliers in the game! :o

One of my favorites is when when he hits the enemy with one of those electrical signs while they're on the floor and then he jumps and stomps on their chest. It really surprised me when I first saw it.

One of my biggest disappointments in Yakuza was the story. I liked the "twists" at the end, but the story didn't emphasize the crime aspect of the game too much. I really really hope we get the sequel.  :-\
