ARGH Somebody kill me. I have to resort to YOUTUBE.

 :'(

I'll probably pick up another copy tomorrow at FYE. It'll likely cost like 20 dollars so some shit.  :'(

Anyone got recommendations of bands that sound like MBV?

Loveless has long been one of those "Great Value!" CDs. You should be able to get it for $7.99-$9.99.

My Bloody Valentine. Late 80's/early 90's shoegaze band from the UK.

Shoegazer stuff is easily my favorite musical subgenre. Easily. It's so pretentious, fits me like a glove.

Anyway, the best shoegazer albums IMO are:

Slowdive - Souvlaki is IMO the best album to come out of the scene, period. I adore Loveless like any good human being, but Souvlaki is better. Just for a Day is slower and more meandering at times, but the times when it does go into the etheral wall of guitars, it does so with complete perfection.
Catherine Wheel - Ferment is better at the shoegazer sound, Chrome is better at fusing it with pop. I like both.
Chapterhouse - Whirlpool omg
Curve - Doppleganger is badass, as is Pubic Fruit. I liked Cuckoo but it is definitely more pop than the other two.
Ride - Nowhere is the definitive Ride album, I think Going Blank Again is just as good but that's arguable.
Swervedriver-Mezcal Head

Pavement and Lush are also pretty popular but I always thought Lush was a bit too skewed to vocals and Pavement never really did much for me.

Lesser known but also awesome albums are Drop Ninteen's Delaware-impossible to find nowadays outside of MP3 and Everything's Alright Forever/Giant Steps from the Boo Radleys.

What exactly is the definition of "shoegaze"? I hear that term thrown around a lot nowadays.
^_^

The lead singer of Swervedriver is doing an in-store performance and signing at a record shop in Seattle pretty soon, I'm so stoked.

I haen't seen them since they opened for Smashing Pumpkins back in 1993.

The genre is based around tons of guitars and guitar effects to generate a wall of sound. If you've ever heard any of the above albums in full, you'd hear it-it's pretty distinctive.

The actual term was coined by early bands in Britian, who would often just play the guitars and look down through the entire live act without much motion or the usual dynamics of a live event.

I like to experience all different kinds of music. I think it's a good thing, rather than listening to mainly one type of music my whole life. :)
