has anyone here beaten dmc3 on dmd?
« on: June 30, 2007, 01:07:45 AM »
i stopped playing a good while ago because i couldn't defeat vergil-2, but after having my interested renewed by a friend i decided to give it another try. i still can barely get past half of his health. his regen is a nightmare.

i might be able to beat him if i use a star or two, but items are for pansies. :punch

Im up to level 9 I think, Im inside the Leviathan body, basically the heart boss creams me within a matter of seconds. I know I probably just need to practice but its so off putting having to do the whole boring level again when you die

you can buy yellow orbs - continues - on the statues, y'know.

as for that boss, leave both hearts with low health before destroying them temporarily. it helps to focus on both because the enemies won't be able to keep up. once the core opens, don't try to hit it too much so you don't get damaged.

stay on the middle of the screen and use rebellion's double damage + trickster's air dash to dodge the lasers.

anyway, vergil got beaten tonite. once he was down to 1/3 he started using sword attacks, being able to take 1 life bar without giving barely any chance to defend myself. it was awesome.

missions 14-17 suck tho. it'll probably take me months to beat them.

thx for the tips, I really like this game but put it aside as I was a bit stuck. I'll try buying some yellow orbs as that will probably help my resolve a bit. Will get back to it once Im done with Onimusha 3, which I am really enjoying, despite not having played the 1st two games

I always thought DMC3 was easy as shit on normal mode. Funny thing is that it's Japan's hard mode. Once I got to Beowulf, I never got hit once from a boss. Either I evaded with trickster, or I parried the attacks with Royal Guard.

I parried every one of Beowulf's attacks the first time I fought him lol

maybe thats my problem, Im not using the Trickster or Royal Guard styles :( I'll give em go. Also Im not sure why I find this game so difficult, Ive always thought of myself as an pretty decent gamer. Maybe all the memory cards and hand holding of the past 10 years have spoiled me a bit. People say that God Hand is difficult, but I breezed through that pretty easily on normal difficulty so I dunno. I guess DMC just hasnt 'clicked' with me yet

Those guys were tough until you learn their pattern. Stick with it.

Trickster is by far my favorite style. So fun and sweet just DODGING enemy blows, teleporting in the air, and crap. Trickster for life. Swordmaster and Gunslinger are USELESS.

gunslinger is useless because guns are weak.

swordmaster is helpful against mobs, but bosses are a different story. there's only so much damage they can take before resuming to their defensive stances, so it doesn't matter if swordmaster can give you new ways to attacks, since in the end you'll deal the same damage in the same timeframe while not having the advantages from other styles.

royalguard is the best style, but it's the hardest one to use. trickster is the safest bet.

there are 2 additional styles later on, but they eat up the DT gauge. one is better than swordmaster and gunslinger, the other is only better than gunslinger.

sweet just wailed all over that stupid heart boss using those tips. Was actually pretty easy once I figured out what I was doing. Trickster style rules, Sky Star move combined with Air Hike make dodging even the nastiest move a breeze  :D just finished Onimusha 3 so I can work on finally completing this game now. After that its on to NANOBREAKER and GRADIUS V :punch

Played about an hours worth of both said games last night and they are both AWESOME. Nanobreaker might be technically mediocre but Im enjoying the combo system and combat techniques. The presentation is excellent, you can tell IGA wanted to make something like MGS but fell way short lol, loving the corny dialogue and the blood effects look pretty cool. Ive been getting boners over B-grade 3d action games lately, so I might give PN03 another look lol

Gradius V is just OMG :bow Treasure :bow Hitoshi Sakamoto
