Very positively recieved. Made a pretty big sum (by Japanese standards). Flags of Our Fathers came and went without much notice.
But, its not the only WWII Japanese army film to come out as of late. There's been "Men of the Yamato" (watch people die on a big-ass battleship) and "For Those We Love" (watch people die as kamakazee pilots). Both of which somewhat lucrative and positively reviewed. I think Letters From Iwo Jima came out on top of those other films did, both comerically and critically, I'm just not looking it up right now.
and I'm NOT a Japafag. I hate most anime (Satoshi Kon excepting). I'm a world-cinema connisour. Ask me about Hong Kong, French, Korean, or German cinema and I'll elaborate on whatever.
So there.
