PRESENTATION: 9
Awesome adaptation of the Top Cow comic and a really immersive experience. Probably my favorite superhero game to date. Paul Jenkins crafted a wonderful story and Starbreeze created a wonderful world. Truly a joy to play.
SOUND: 8
Most of the sound work is downright awesome and the score is incredible. When its blaring and you're taking apart enemies with your overpowered abilities - you feel invincible. That said, there's major lip syncing problems and absentee noises. I should hear something if I toss a body two stories up and it splats on the ground. There's no splat!
VISUALS: 9
Beautiful looking game and the best textures I've seen in a 360 title to date. Some of the models could use more polygons and the world is too "boxy" looking. Everything looks so angular. It's hard to complain considering the amount of detail they put into the environment - which sucks because not enough people are inhabiting the world!
GAMEPLAY: 7
Most of the Darkness powers are a ton of fun to play with, but the Creeping Darkness still needs some extra tweaking. The game gets repetitive near the end, since your powers increase dramatically, so Starbreeze's answer is to just throw more enemies at you. Problem is, the A.I. is not very smart. Getting around is simple, but outside the subway, the world is barren - not to keen on that.
LASTING APPEAL: 6
Unlocking extras is pretty awesome, as some of the videos are kind of neat (like how they hired graffiti artists for textures) and the ability to unlock new and old Top Cow comics is also neat. They look great. The story is so much fun that I can definitely see myself replaying this. For folks that want to breeze through the game, there's not enough meat here. And the multiplayer is broken. Period.
FINAL SCORE: 8
If you're a fan of the comic property whatsoever, you owe yourself to pick up this game. If you just like comic books, it's also a great play through. It's a ton of fun and the presentation in the game is top notch. That said, there are so many flaws that it would be hard to recommend this as a must buy to everyone. It's a great example that if Starbreeze would ever embark on a sequel, a handful of changes could make that game incredible. As is, we're just left with a damn fun one. Fun game and cool story compensates for broken multiplayer and a nagging flaws.
