Weird Mouse Scroll Wheel Problem - what could be causing this?
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:20:58 PM »
So I bought a Kensington Pilotboard Wireless Keyboard and Laser Mouse set.  At first it worked great, but about a week after I bought it, the mouse scroll wheel started going crazy - it "jumps" up and down randomly as I scroll down a page, making it unusable.  I changed the batteries, reinstalled the software, rebooted - still did it.  I figured it was hardware failure, so I took it back and exchanged it.  Again, the replacement worked fine at first - now, a week or so later, it's doing the same thing as the first.  I can't believe that two different sets are failing, so now I'm thinking there's some sort of conflict going on.  It reads as functioning fine, though.  Does anyone know what might possibly be causing this?  I'm only about 4 feet away from the USB plug-in, and it's supposed to have a range of 30 feet, so I dunno.  If I can't get it figured out, back it goes, and this time I'm getting something different.  Sucks, because when it works it a great mouse, ergonomic and plenty of extra buttons.

My guess is the crap build quality.  Kensington?  C'mon, at least settle for Logitech.
