SAN MATEO, CA - Capcom™ announced today the newest installment in their award winning Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Operation Escort, exclusively for the Nintendo® Wii™ home entertainment system. Coming off the retail success of their recent release of Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, the latest entry in the survival horror series will feature an all new, exclusive story mode with a focus on third-person shooting and escort missions. Capcom™ did not divulge much information, but said that gamers will play as a NAVY Seal named Juan Guitierez, who escorts refugees in and out of zombie-infested areas to "green zones". Players will be able to compare their best times and scores on online leader boards, a first for the Nintendo® Wii™.
"We wanted to create a unique game for Resident Evil fans that was fundamentally different than what is out there or featured in out Outbreak series," said Kenji Maeda, Senior VP of Development Operations, "And the reactions to the limited escort missions in Resident Evil 4 were so positive that we thought it'd be an interesting direction to take the series."
Boasting multiplayer, online leader boards and exclusive content that will perhaps lead into the anticipated Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil: Operation Escort hits Wii consoles this Christmas with a MSRP of $39.99.
