Jesus, I've just been looking at some preview clips of this stuff in motion and...who the hell designed these things? The designs are way too busy and clunky. They look...OKAY...in still pictures, but once the things start moving, especially during action sequences, it 's really hard to tell which part is which. I'm not saying they should keep the designs from the animation (I realize the studio feels those designs are not "realistic" enough plus they wouldn't be able to sell quite as many new toys) but they could have tried to keep things a BIT more simple and elegant. Maybe they could have recruited some Japanese mechanical designers, guys with years of experience in the world of giant robots and giant robot toys...

I mean, if they want big, badass looking mecha, they need look no further than the designs of Katoki Hajime:

I would've preferred to have seen something like this than what we're seeing in the movie. But then again, I am a japafag. :/

Movie was awesome.

The best parts were the stuff with Shia (wtf I know). The robot history nonsense and pure robot action got a bit boring. I ADORED the banter with shia and his parents. I never seen a movie with this kid before, consider myself impressed with this guys acting.

I really didn't expect the humor to be that good. Shia's timing was great. The bedroom scene was hilarious, also the Bumblebee scene with Shia and Megan Fox (when Shia wanted to give her a ride) was absolutely hilarious

Doesn't come out here until next month...MAN, I want to see it, but I hate the mecha designs with a passion. They look so damn sloppy.

I hope this is successful enough that BT's dream comes true and they make a live-action Gundam movie.

I do agree with the designs.

The Gundam designs (or Japanese mecha in general) have a very very sleek stylized look, very badass with over the top weaponry. Where American robots (or just the Transformers) are more boxed and crude.

Japafaggotry or not, I love Gundam. The Gundam Wing movie was the first DVD I ever owned. I also love everything about mechs that look like Gundams. A live-action Gundam movie would kick ass!

Also, Gundams look fucking AWESOME. Even when the stories are shit, the basic mechanical design of the Gundam is great and I would love to see that in live-action.

They look boxed because they are 20 years old. And as far as I know, the Transformers were designed by a japanese company, even though the first animated show was an american production.

The Transformers were all originally Japanese toys before they were bought by Hasbro for the show, this is true.

They don´t look that bad. Gundam-like designs would have looked goofy, they still looked boxed for a live action film, even though they look awesome on anime/manga.

Btw I want fucking Star Saber for the sequel. Of the original G1 animes he is my favorite one.

I really dug the designs actually - I hate that boxy animu trash. The only gripe I had is that in certain scenes it was hard to differentiate between Decepticons, save for Megatron. Like, the Autobots all had designs that felt invidiual, but not the Decepticons (again, save for Megatron).

Hate the designs. HATE. They were a busy mess in the original publicity renders, and they're even worse in motion. Can't see a damn thing that's going on, and can't focus on any one detail other than the eyes. Maybe the head. There's no flow or sense of proportion in the designs. It's just DETAIL DETAIL DETAIL OH GOD WE'VE GOT TO ADD MORE DETAIL.

The one cool design/animation sequence I noticed was when the Pave Low helicopter Decepticon (I don't remember the name) turned into a robot, and the rotor blades folded up and rested behind its back like a cape. That was cool. And the tail rotor as a weapon on one hand made sense, too.
