No CGI In Indiana Jones IV
« on: July 05, 2007, 04:50:45 PM »
From the producer of the film (along with George Lucas), Frank Marshall:

Quote
Marshall and Spielberg wanted to shoot the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie in the same style as the first three.

"Steven is very aware of the process and we're not cheating with CG (computer graphics) at all," Marshall said. "It keeps the B movie feel."

Agreed, he is a very likeable young actor. He does sarcasm well and can be damn funny. I can see him playing off Ford very well which I never expected before seeing Transformers.

B movie feel?  I don't think that was what he meant to say.

Well, I knew he could act and be funny.  He was good in Even Stevens and in Holes (fuck you guys!).  I just didn't know how he would do in a more mature movie.  He did wonderful :bow :bow

I disagree completely.  If you want to compare Indiana Jones to classic Golden Era Hollywood shit, it's more fair to compare them to high adventure movies.  They feel like throwbacks to an older era, but there's nothing at all B-movie-esque about any of the previous Indy movies.

Lucas and Spielberg created Jones to be a throw back to the adventure pulp serial's from the 20's-30's that kids watched, similar to Star Wars.

And nobody is arguing that.  That doesn't change the fact that Indiana Jones movies do not have a B-movie feel.

I am thinking marshall (and myself it seems) kind of throw pulp and "b-movie" into the same definition

argh it doesnt have aliens IN it (at least from what we hear). It's about aliens taking part in ancient society building things lol. There will be like alien bones or something.

Live aliens running around with lasers in it because it has a alien connection would be like Jesus showing up at the end of last crusade and killing the nazi's cause his cup was in it.

I thought Lucas and Spielberg created it because they wanted to do their own type of Bond movie?  When did they decide to make it like a 30s serial?

Lucas came up with the concept and story of "Indiana Smith" around the time of star wars as a 30's pulp serial like movie. He created both it and star wars to try to revive the simple blockbuster adventure of the 30's serials (which at the time was unheard of in film-making) He didn't want to direct it since he was so busy with Star Wars and when Spielberg told Lucas of his dreams of directing James Bond but being turned down Lucas asked him if he wanted to direct it, since it had a Bond like quality in its style and structure. Thus it became a joint Lucas/Spielberg franchise. Lucas creating the story's & producing (and funding it personally) with spielberg directing
