Trebuchet MS is a nicer alternative to Comic Sans.

So is Verdana.

Tahoma is nice, too.

Impact is nice for the titles of handouts.

Georgia is the prettiest serif font.

Times New Roman looks very nice when italicized.

so i will take this opportunity to pimp helvetica, the popular, tried and true sans-serif font that was invented in switzerland

i've always been a fan of century gothic, but it's definitely not useful for actual body text. it's nice for headers and i've used it a lot in graphic design

helvetica is still a pioneer in the sans-serif game though. that shit has been around forever!
