The red ring of death scares the shit out of me. Really does. I don't think she's bought the 360 yet, since I keep mentioning it to her and that we should wait a little while longer for things to improve in terms of them not breaking.

Just tell her to get it from Costco, then you don't have to wait for MS's service if it ever breaks down.

I thought Costco recently changed their return policy?

I think it's still the same thing for consoles but I'm not sure.  If you're not too concern with ethics, you can also just swap and return at Costco's.  My friend says that you can get away with it because Costco doesn't keep track of serials unlike other retailers.

THIS GAME IS GORGEOUS

The battle system is easy enough to understand - was a bit confused at first, but I figured it out.

AND ITS PLAYING CHEESY HAIR METAL FROM THE 80s FOR THIS BOSS FIGHT

I CANT FUCKING WAIT FOR THIS GAME

urgh, I'd never think I'd say that but... I'm SERIOUSLY turned off by that game after having tried the demo... Raoul Duke seems to be right

I didn't like the battle system, even after having perfectly understood how it worked, it felt pretty unfun and really cluttered... the battle view and all the fighting "action" are confusing, the frame rate always gets ultra-low to the point of being embarassing, everything moves slowly and I REALLY didn't look forward to doing more battles... after a long while I turned the 360 off because being forced to do ANOTHER of these slow-ass battles with unsatisfying "shadow" weapons just felt like a royal pain in the ass

and God, that little yellow toad's voice is ANNOYING AS FUCK... visuals are good, if a bit barren, but the game's "pastel" visual style is way over the top... sometimes you can't see jack shit but some shades of Crayola

the plot and the characters look like absolute rubbish, sorry but this, it's got NONE of the charm of classic RPGs like Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VI-- instead it's got the charm of a bad Digimon episode

one thing that you got to recognize, the image quality is splendid, and this is probably the best-animated game EVER... the production values for this are frickin' unbelievable

it's got Toriyama's character designs, but the plot and characters themselves sound even cornier than in Dragon Ball

the battling and leveling system is pretty fun but I really don't understand half of what happens.  WHY THE FUCK CAN'T I HIT CERTAIN BOSSES AT ALL WITHOUT USING CORPOREALS?  By the way, the corporeal battle animations are even worse than the mega attacks in super robot wars.

Corporeals are when you turn your blue phantom thing into a living creature and it does some 15-20X damage attack with a 20 second animation of it dancing and throwing magic.  The corporeal attack for the big-boobed 11 year old is pretty funny because she rides on her flying pig.  It's like irony or something, I don't know, it's 5:00 A.M. and I stayed up to play Blue Dragon.

game looks fantastic, and the gameplay seems "different" than what i'm used to in turn-based JRPGs, but what bugs me the most is the screen tearing.  seriously, this game isn't pushing that many polygons, why is it a stuttering mess?  this mostly occurs in battle when the blue dragons begin to appear.

other than that gripe, day 1 purchase no doubt.

No screen tearing on my 360. Running VGA @720p.

I enjoyed Eternal Sonata demo much more than this demo. My Cutesy JfagRPG money is going to Namco this round.

I played for about 5 minutes. Gameplay is like FF5 mixed with FFX with a bit of BoF DQ mixed in (field abilities).

The one song I heard for non combat sounded like parts were lifted from FF6. The post battle music sounded like the FF Fanfare remixed. Don't remember the in battle music.

Story seems straight out of the SNES pre FF6 era of RPGs.

well after spending more time with it I began to quite like it, pretty much to past levels of hyping actually

it's just fun to notice the little touches of 2D RPGs that have been transposed into this nice 3D engine, and all the quality cel-shaded animations and the transitions too

I'm still wary of the plot and the characters, and hope that it doesn't stay as childish and corny as a saturday morning cartoon

Got this demo and it fucking ROCKED... amazing BUTTROCK boss theme with the horrible singing. Field effects were a really nice touch, graphics look pretty decent (though I've noticed tearing when using your compound attacks or whatever those were called), music was good but not mindblowing (I expected a bit more from Nobuo)... but yeah, I am loving this, the subtle changes to the default turn-based battle engine are much appreciated, I love seeing enemies on the map too. There just seems to be a LOT of enemies around the levels, making it slightly annoying to explore, is it like this in the finished game?

I decided to give this demo a chance...

Great music, hilarious boss music.

Battles themselves are cool. Moderate slowdown sucks however. Easy enough to learn battle system.

Amazing graphics. The boss battles especially. That giant robot battle was the most impressive, with all that debris floating around in the background. The laser eyes attack wowed me.

probably will buy the retail version, hope they fix the slowdown.

I'll give my initial short impressions.

Right now, I'm underwhelmed. :(  I really, really, really liked the Eternal Sonota demo and it greatly increased my already high interests for the game.  This game, has slid quite a bit to (I'll wait for a price drop).  I know that a demo can't tell the whole story, but what I can say is, the battles are okay at best (nothing really special, compared to many other turn-based RPGs I played).  I didn't exactly like how I got into combating (selecting enemy to fight, or touching them feels awkward).  They felt like something I was playing during the old SNES time.  Character models looks good, but the graphics are blurry (especially the forests).  Soundtrack is decent, but definitely far from being Umetsu's better work (like on FFVI, VII, and VIII for an example).  Voice acting is terrible, but that's normal for RPGs.

Like I said, I'll still get the game eventually, but the demo let me down, and I was really wanting this game too.  I'll still play the demo a few more times to see if my mind changes.  It has nothing to do with getting all the skills, there are just some little things I don't like.  I still want this more than Lost Odyssey, since I love little anime characters a lot. ;)

Fuck the demo, give me the actual game

I can't believe in this day and age it takes this long to get something translated. There really needs to be concurrent things going on in game development for a country (in regards to localization). Tranlsate your shit during game development, fucken Japanese.

If Kojima (Konami) can do it for Metal Gear 4 (Simultaneous Worldwide Release) why can't these fucken Japa RPG makers do it? FUCKERS, ALL OF THEM.

the game has probably been 100% done for 2 or 3 months now, Microsoft just strategically decided to release it in late august in order not to hurt the sales of its first party titles
