Nintendo conference was sad for me....
« on: July 11, 2007, 05:00:58 PM »
shows the direction they are heading, give Mario, Metroid like 20seconds and then half hour on the Wii Soccer Moms and fitness crap.  :-\

can only hope they don't entirely take over and MS and Sony have to change for the worse.

Sony did show a lot of new IPs in addition to their sequels, though. Nintendo has literally zero new gaming IPs.

He didn't say "gaming" IPs. And it's 2007, how much surprise do you need from Nintendo? They're like the Milton Bradley of gaming, something that you butthurt nerds can't seem to grasp.

Heavenly Sword?
Little Big Planet?
Echo Chrome?
Uncharted?
Folklore?
Infamous?

What was the new IP Nintendo had on display?  Oh yeah, that.

Just because you're a jaded gamer that expects "boundaries to be pushed" all the time doesn't mean everyone else is.  Note that I only picked the new IPs that I think are actually interesting and potentially good.  Aside from Heavenly Sword, I think each one of those games does something new or different.

Also, if "boundary pushing" equals fitness games, I'd rather go outside, take a walk, and play with my camera.

Uh, it's 2007. Gamers SHOULD expect boundaries to be pushed. Merely slapping the Playstation brand on a console and expecting it to sell isn't going to cut it anymore.

Well, I am sorry, then, Corny, because I think it cuts fine, especially when these new innovative Nintendo games are either silly gimmicks like Wii Fit or the same ol games from the past with new gimmick controls that don't change the gameplay that much.

Nintendo came up with an "innovative" new controller, and the only thing they can think of doing is remaking the same 6 staple games with controls that in the end don't even change the game that much.

It's not cutting it with the public, is it?

And were you all up in arms when Microsoft came out with Yourself!Fitness?

Well, Sony came up with a $600 home entertainment system that plays prettier FPSes than the competition. I'm really surprised people aren't rioting in the streets for one!

I probably would have been if MS made it a keystone product in their lineup.    Well, up in arms is wrong--puzzled is more accurate.

well, saying that Nintendo had more new IP than Sony is really disingenuous. which is a long word for "wrong."

like Keith said, none of the games he listed were FPSes. he didn't talk about Haze, Killzone 2, Unreal Tournament 3, Kane and Lynch, CoD4, etc. And all of the games look interesting and doing something new. I'm sorry if you're so jaded that any game with textured graphics looks like a "generic FPS" to you!

I hope it doesn't bother ToxicAdam if I pull down my burqa and speak my mind a little bit

well, saying that Nintendo had more new IP than Sony is really disingenuous. which is a long word for "wrong."

It's the same old thing though man and I'm sorry but if you don't agree it's because you're trying to justify the price tag.

I mean, how many PS3 games come with a SCALE??

like Keith said, none of the games listed save Killzone 2 were FPSes. and all of them look interesting and doing something new. I'm sorry if you're so jaded that any game with graphics looks like a generic FPS to you

I liked this simpler version, pre-edit. I guess I'm not checking for PS3 games because I don't own one, I'll never own one and I really don't give a fuck. Ok! Jaded gamer FTW.

I don't own a PS3 and I'm not going to buy one for a long while yet. But the price tag has nothing to do with the games/IP on display!

but the ONLY new IP Nintendo had was Wii Fit. There were at least a dozen non-sequel games on display in Sony's tent, and there'll be a dozen more come TGS.

I spent like $200 for a fucking DC Pop N' Music controller, I ain't letting go of SHIT

God that link is depressing.

Nintendo pissed on the sweet memories I and many other people had of them in our chilhoods and alienated most of its past fans over the years by innovating less and less, and simply milking their established franchises like there was no tomorrow. There were still some quirky games made, but those REALLY took a backdrop to the milking of the cash cows.

It's so eerie to realize now that other than an Earthbound RPG, there is NOTHING left that Nintendo could produce that I'd give a flying fuck about. They could go bankrupt and I honestly wouldn't even feel a thing.
