more gta iv info.
« on: July 12, 2007, 10:49:36 PM »
from gaf:

* McReary, the character we learned about in GamesTM, is a corrupt cop. He has "dirt on Niko's past." The mission they previewed is called "Call and Collect."
* Little Jacob (a caribbean arms dealer) is a good friend of Niko's cousin. When you buy weapons from him (which are kept in his trunk) you can scroll through them like you did in Ammu-Nation in the previous GTA games.
* Rotterdam Hill (the place where Niko agrees to meet Jacob) is in Alderney - the GTA IV equivalent of New Jersey.
* Niko kills Goldberg (the shady lawyer) because he owes a favour to somebody.
* Rockstar showed the sequence where he kills Goldberg twice. The first time he fell out of the window, the second time he merely crumpled on the floor.
* When purchasing clothes, you have to choose the items from the shelf individually.
* Determining which figures you need to kill requires perception - there are no arrowheads to direct you like in the previous games.
* Once you gain a wanted-level, the map flashes with circles of blue and red, with each circle representing the line of sight of the police chase. The circles differ in size depending on your wanted-level.
* The default camera view when driving rests around the left-hand side of the car above the road.
* Multiplayer is accessed via your mobile phone.
* The combat rests somewhere between Resident Evil 4 and Gears of War in terms of style, allowing you to roll, find protection and blind-fire from behind cover.
* Shooting different parts of the body has different impacts (e.g shoot a security guard in the foot at the top of the stairs, and he'll come tumbling down.)
* In GTA IV you have to develop relationships with other characters. Your relationship with Little Jacob, for example, is maintained through phone calls and loyalty. Developing good relationships with different characters can provide different rewards.

i hope the targets are marked on the radar since there are no arrowheards. i also hope i don't have to purchase clothes often, because the new system seems to be worse than sa's.

i like the loyalt thing.  i loved gta 2 because you had the loyalty bars or whatever.  you could be on bad terms with the gangs, or on good terms.  i loved it.

I cannot wait. Most anticipated game ever.

There won't be any blips on the radar most likely. It seems pointless to not show arrows, but had blips on the radar showing your target.

You have to use tricks in order to find your target. In the last piece of info, they said that Niko didn't know who his target was so he called him on his phone to confirm who the guy is. Once he hung up, so he was positive it was the guy, he went up to him, shot him three times in the head and got an instant 3 stars.

So fucking awesome omg.

Of course, if you want to, you could likely just go up and kill all the people near the guy without inquiring, but since we have a new Loyalty system in place, you could fuck up your connections with the boss that hired you. Depending on how you play the game and how you do the missions, your bosses will end up betraying you or befriending you. :)

i don't know, in the hitman games for example there are no arrowheads but the targets are shown on the map. if they're unknown you can only see them after you find out who they are too.

those missions where you have to follow someone while being hidden or just follow another car could become frustrating without some sort of radar indication, so i hope they have something to fix it like the in the hitman games.

I don't know, it seems they're completely retooling the game. They may be a stealth element a la the Warriors in place.

I don't want stealth missions, I just want the ability to go into the dark and decrease visibility ala The Warriors. Handy when running from cops.

Anyways, yeah, I see them using blips on the map. As long as there's now arrows over doors and people's heads I'm cool.

It's afrobeat. It seems they are going to continue with the multi cultural, multi genre theme from San Andreas.

Finally something done right in a GTA Game, you can shoot people anywhere in the body, without killing them, WOOOOOOOOOOOO.  You can do this in vice city, but its not actually done right. Now when do i get my option to disable blood and gore?

Not necessarily. Do you really think that COPS and your enemies will pussy out and run away because they got shot in the ARM? NO.

You can also use this to your advantage. If you shoot someone that's on a flight of stairs in the foot, he will fall down the stairs and die.

If they have common sense, i hope so. LOL

You can also use this to your advantage. If you shoot someone that's on a flight of stairs in the foot, he will fall down the stairs and die.

Not everyone who falls from stairs, dies.
