The Nintendo 64 Starcraft is NOT Starcraft.

Jesus, we all had PCs.  StarCraft 64 is a slight against humanity.  We'd play TFC, CS and StarCraft in a rotation because we were manly nerds.
All the exact same games I played the hell out of.  I've played those 3 games more than any other games ever.

So far so good. I like slicing stuff up with my brushstrokes.  They could have really cut down on the text/story though.

He just watches me play  :P I like it a lot so far. It's more task oriented rather then battle and enemies at every corner. Just my type of game. I really like doing the side quests for each area and saving up money/items. Did you know that the load screens are actually a mini game?? I found it out by accident. You can get free dragon claws from it if you fill up the screen with wolf paws (best to try while loading up the game) or make sure all the large paws are on the path in the alternate load screen (Press X).

The only real complaint I can see came SORTA from etiolate. It would have been nice to be able to skip the larger story segements. I dont wanna do it but an option is an option.

I got all achievements in Condemned, sent it back today. I should get Okami, I bumped it to the top of my list. Is it short?

No, it's about 40 hours long.

There's 6 chapters I think in all, it took me 7-8 hours to do the first one while attempting to complete as much as possible. Someone running through for the bare requirements I am sure could get through it faster, but half the fun is doing everything. Plus if you do a lot of the side-quests your brush techniques will get upgraded.

I'm enjoying it so far... I just find it _slightly_ overrated... dazzling graphics and art style for sure, though

maybe this is just because it's the first few hours (and so it's just a string of pretexts to teach you gameplay mechanics), but I find that the game pauses the action far too frequently, and that most quests aren't really challenging or interesting to do... Zelda games are definitely far better in that sector... the draw detection system is also somewhat spotty

still very well worth playing and fascinating... what an ambiance man, I've shouted "wow!" at the game's allure, and only did so for all of next-gen's games with like Metal Gear Solid 4, Motorstorm and Heavenly Sword... the wolf character is incredibly well done... amazing characters and presentation that're very theatrical too, it's just gorgeous all around :)

Well to put things in perspective Mon, there are games I have played recently, that stick you in one room, full of NPCs, that walk you through the instruction book.

Its fine to recognize pretext, for whatever intellectual credit you desire, but Capcom would hear nothing but bitching if the tutorial was extremely structured, or if there was none at all.

At most I SUSPECTED the first act was a tutorial of sorts but I didnt much care.

Its an adventure game, not an action game. I do agree the combat thus far. 8 hours in, is still kinda easy, but its on par with the difficulty of Wind Waker. And you wanna talk pauses in action, Wind Waker had players on a fucking boat for hours between sections. Most of the 2D zeldas were more puzzle than action, and the action that WAS there required less thought than Okami.

The only spot ive noticed weird issues with the brush system is when youre on the speeding log.

yah I've got nothing against this system of gameplay teaching, since anyway basically any console RPG and adventure game has always been like that

it just feels weird to realize that the "uncanny" events and the characters' corny dialogue of the first few hours of these games is fake and only serve to put the tutorial in place :lol

well i'd guess that the entire story the game is based on is a little "fake" ;)

Glad youre enjoying it despite the misgivings. I think if a person gives it a chance there's a lot to enjoy here. There was a good interview with the creators in the latest EGM.

Is there an option to speed up the text at least? The story has interesting points, it just takes its time saying so.

Very much my type of game. I am ejoying the brushing part more than I thought. Haven't hit a big dungeon yet. Are there dungeon like areas? I assumed there was.

Also, A LOT of the music so far sounds familiar. Like, from snes Square games.

Does helping the animals pay off in the end? I keep feeding them, and they love me so.

Yes, there are dungeons.

Yes, helping the animals pays off in a big way.

Feeding animal, helping people, just doing the sidequests in general, will trigger 2nd and 3rd events from some of the other gods. This gets your brush-stroke arts powered up 2-3 times. Also the praise you get for feeding animals and the like is used to level up your stats, dont forget ;)

As for the dungeon thing, nothing about Okami was designed to be a DUNGEON. That is to the game's credit. By not creating DUNGEONS in the traditional sense they have provided an environment that is as believable as it can be for a fantasy story. I never feel like I am entering a dungeon or a hub, the game promotes a feeling of a WORLD, which is sorta the point.

As for the text, what do you have against the story? Its better than Wind Wakers story IMO.

I just like to play through my stories, not read/watch them. I'm not far enough into the story to judge how good it is.  I just don't want to keep scrolling through text.
