Are there ANY handicap-friendly countries you'd recommend?
« on: July 13, 2007, 03:36:09 PM »
Now as most of you know I am a handicap person living in America, however I want to go out and visit different countries and such. I first wanted to go to Japan, but most everyone I've talked to has said they don't treat handicap people well, so I asked people about other countries such as Korea, France, Italy, Germany, Thailand, and China and they all pretty much say the same thing "People look down at handicapped people and treat them badly". So are there ANY countries you guys would recommend?

I think I should also note that whether they have lots of handicap facility's doesn't really matter, but rather if the people would be willing to help me and not dismiss me or look down at me just because I'm handicapped.

Dude, go anywhere you want. Travel, and have a good time doing it. Just don't expect to find a culture that embraces you any better than you have it at home. Also, don't go looking for a woman to love and care for you.

Also, visit a large North American city, you might be surprised at how much different things are from your small town in Oklahoma.

What is the nature of your handicap, if you don't mind me asking?

It's one of the strongests, if not the strongest inner human instinct to intrisically resent and frown upon what looks disformed physically. People are the same everywhere.

In all honesty, from the countries I've visited, America and the UK do the most to assist the handicapped and they're the most accepting of the handicapped.

Stay in USA.  Handicapped people are treated there better than other countries.

The answer is: America.  You really won't find things much better than over there.  You just have to get out of that small town first, don't think that the place you live in is representative of the rest of the country.  Go to NYC, Chicago, LA, Seattle, Boston, etc., etc.

Well, I'm not saying that I necessarily want to live there, but I'm just asking what are some good countries to visit that would be friendly.

I think there's a big difference between "handicap-friendly" and what you're looking for, which is a place that will accept you and where no one will ever give you funny looks for your disability, and girls will date you and take care of you.  And I'm sorry to say, there's no place in the world like that.

"Handicap-friendly" or "place I can go to get laid."  Which is it?

Seriously, go visit some big U.S. cities first.  Get the fuck out of your little town and see the rest of the country before you go abroad.

Perhaps it's me, but I don't get the impression that he's looking to get laid. It looks like he just wants to do somewhere where he can expect people to not be total douches to him if he needs assistance or whatever.

I take it you missed his earlier escapades on GAF, like him saying he wanted to go to Japan to "visit" Soapland (essentially a brothel) and his lies about having a Korean(?) girlfriend.  It was the latter that made me stop wanting to help him.

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion
There's a whole generation with a new explanation
People in motion people in motion

For those who come to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there

Ok, I admit I did some really stupid stuff, I am really sorry, but I am really serious about this.

The thing is the only one that helps me is my dad and I can't go anywhere without him unless I managed to find someone. And he won't leave the US just to visit because "he's afraid of terrorists":/

I'd have to say Norway. My great aunt has been in a wheelchair for a good part of her life and had always said the the time she spent in Norway was one of the best times in her life.

Maybe it's because she is Norwegian, but I'm not a scientist.

It really all depends on the cultures as well, too. Canada would be pretty open to it. I mean, just look at Shuri. He loves everyone.

well assuming you're not a total social distinguished mentally-challenged fellow...america should be the easiest country for you to accommodate to because you can actually speak the language.  Unless you're looking for slutty pussy, which is more than anybody would do for free.

If you're going to move, it should be to fulfill some sort of long-term financial or social need and you should already know where you want to move if that's the case.

People do not collectively take their nation and decide how shitty they're going to make people with deformities feel.
