MAF's 360 OMG thread.
« on: July 15, 2007, 03:16:07 AM »
First off, Overlord rules. Demi was right. Its awesome. There is NOTHING currently out that matches the feeling of walking through a horde of your own crazy minions as they destroy everything. The game is extremely charming and that makes up for its pikmin gameplay. The first boss was awesome and disgusting, and my minions feel like my own dysfunctional family. I laughed out loud the first time I saw one of them wearing a rat that it killed on its head as a helmet, or watching them charge an angry hobbit army with only the pumpkins on their heads and pitchforks in their hands. The game is just neat, I dumped a good 2 hours just killing disgusting hobbits and their nasty chips.

Missile Command rocks. The evolved version is really cool and a nice upgrade. 400 points for evolved and classic in one package OMG OMG.

Blue Dragon Demo rocks. I love the battle system from the 10-15 minutes I played in the fortress. I was a little worried that it would be all willy nilly real time shit, but there's a lot of neat mechanics going on in the turn based approach that will no doubt prove really interesting. The voice acting is a little over the top for a cast of kids n such, but ill get over that. The game is really nice looking.

Ace Combat 6 is also omg omg. I think the games harder than first three games, but I never played the 4th or 5th so maybe it hasnt changed much. The visuals are stunning, but I will say playing an AC game on a 360 game is REALLY weird. Dunno what it is. I might just be making excuses for sucking lololol :(

Yeah, he picked it up. Gamecrazy only got a few copies I guess. He's a sucker for space shooter things I think. They only had one copy of Overlord and I grabbed that cause OMG used copy! already. Apparently the last owner beat it over the week of the 4th during vacation time. Sounds like he was hooked haha.

copy paste from the blue dragon demo thread:

Quote
I decided to give this demo a chance...

Great music, hilarious boss music.

Battles themselves are cool. Moderate slowdown sucks however. Easy enough to learn battle system.

Amazing graphics. The boss battles especially. That giant robot battle was the most impressive, with all that debris floating around in the background. The laser eyes attack wowed me.

probably will buy the retail version, hope they fix the slowdown.

thats about all Ive played on 360 lately.

Is eternal sonata worth downloading?

What is sylpheed

did you play the stuntman demo?  It's hella fun.

One trick to dodging missiles in AC6 is to just boost up.  Missiles only burn for a couple seconds so they'll  be much better at taking you out if you go downwards.  I usually use the view other than cockpit or third-person.

Blue dragon looked kinda meh to me.  I didn't like the combat system, I admit I didn't try figuring it out but I still got through the entire fortress just using my healing potions, the one magic power you have to automatically win a fight with lower level enemies you beat, and corporeal attacks.  the screen tearing and slowdown are also surprising considering this game was already released.

you should download and play eternal sonata just to see the graphics.  The battle system is really nice too.  Need a jap account bu it's in english.

sylpheed is a horrible space shooter with no yaw button.  it's made by square enix.  it's really horrible.

Eternal Sonata is worth downloading, wacky jappy RPGs are [in] this generation

Project Sylpheed is a space shooter from Game Arts, the makers of GRANDIA, which is funny.

am nintenho: its not evading so much, I just cant seem to get a lock on for missiles, I didnt look at the control mapping tho lol. Plus the analog sticks on 360 seem a little oversensitive for some of the more precision hits. I bet if I figure out how to lock missiles on thing it'll be gravy.

As for eternal sonata ill just wait, its on my must have list tho. I think the only real complaint id level against the BD is the avatar/shadow whatever stuff kinda seems like bloat animation wise. If there's a lot of battles im not sure id wanna grind through all the sub-menus and animations. Ill give it more time tho, I did like what I played so far.

you have two types of missiles; you shoot both with B button but you switch between the types with the select button.  One type is called your "special" weapon (that's what they actually call it) and it locks on really easily to any enemy in range that is in your viewscreen and it can target up to 4 enemies.  Don't worry about running out of missiles too soon, you have about 100 of each.  The other missile can only target one at a time and you need to have a bead on the guy for a little while.

If you want to be able to find enemies quickly then look at where the arrow points on you HUD.  You can also press the Y button to automatically make the camera turn to the closest enemy so that you can line up with him.  Can be useful if very far away from enemies or if you don't get where the enemy you were chasing went.  X toggles map display.

Yeah and the right stick is to change view.  I know that if you "charge" up the ally meter enough than you can tell your wingman what to do with the D-pad but there's no point I saw where you couldn't tell him what to do and he usually is good at taking out fighters so I sent him out to a lot of the fighters that were hard to catch up with and just took potshots at the bombers.

it's kind of fun for a demo (full game would be better I mean).  I would seriously recommend the stuntman demo though.  I must have played that for 2-3 hours last night.  Only has 3 scenes but they're each around 3 minutes but you don't have to have a load time if you're restarting the scene.

oh ok I need to switch missiles then, but the select button? No wonder I couldn't figure it out lol :(

Also, I believe in the demo the special missiles are long range and the regular are short or medium range. That's probably part of the reason why you had a hard time. With the regular missiles you have to make sure to get behind the enemy and not come from the side (most of the time).

I also was psyched to see Stuntman come to the 360! I loved the PS2 game and never understood why it didn't come out with a sequel.

Missile Command with a control pad.  ::)

Carcassonne, Band of Bugs and Pac-Man CE are good fun. I'd like Mutant Storm a lot better if it had online (instead of local only) co-op.

I was playing Missile Command on the 2600 when you were a sparkle in your daddies' eye. Still rather play it with a Trakball.
