I don't know who won E3, but it's clear Nintendo won my mother's heart and has perhaps turned her into a gamer.
My mother has been overweight for some time. I've seen beautiful pictures of her from the 70s, but from what I understand she gained the weight after I was born. This has always bothered me, and on many nights I tossed in bed wondering "is my mother ugly because of me?"
I tried to get her to work out but it was always a huge hassle. She would complain that the exercises were too hard, too complicated, and too stressful. On her 50th birthday I bought her an Oprah exercise tape, and that helped for some time. Then my dad got upset one night and threw away all my mom's tapes. He did this mainly to rid the house of Waiting to Exhale, but this also spelled the end for Oprah. It seemed like my mom would never be beautiful.
But then at E3 Nintendo revealed something special. To me, Wii Fit is not a videogame - it's more advanced. It's a lifestyle simulation of poetry in motion, a godsend. I showed it to my mom and she instantly wanted one. Now she is excited about exercise, and every night I dream about what she'll look like a few months after the game's release. Wii Fit is easy to understand, it's easy to do, and it looks amazing. I can't wait to try it myself.
