Hey guys.
We're having this really weird issue at work on a machine we're trying to rebuild.
Here's the gist of it:
We're rebuilding a machine for a guy, and we've given his hard drive a fresh format. We can install Windows 2000 from an installation CD without any problems at all, but if we try to install Windows XP from a CD, we get an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error.
We've done extensive hardware testing and we've ruled out any kind of hardware failure. We've also tried removing every non-essential piece of hardware in the guy's machine, leaving us with one Xeon processor, his old nvidia PCI card, 4 sticks of RDRAM, and his hard drive.
From here, we think the error is probably related to the video card. I've tried moving it to every PCI slot in the machine to no avail. the thing keeps blue screening during the 'Installing Devices' area of the installation.
We don't have any PCI video cards lying around, and we don't have any AGP Pro cards (his other available video card type).
Any suggestions for how we might be able to salvage this installation?
