Let me explain what is leading to the squeeze that will be so painful over the next five years, and then I'll give you my pick for the oil stock that's best positioned for this scenario.

This big squeeze is coming from both the demand and supply ends of the oil market.

Higher oil prices so far have not led to lower consumption. That's what's supposed to happen, right? As oil and gasoline get more expensive, people should use less, economic theory says. But not this time.

Time to buy that hybrid OMG

I thought it was already known, demand for fuel has very low elasticity.

How is it a war for oil? Oil went up in price not down.

There's some debate about just how much higher oil prices will lower consumption.

This study was making the rounds a little while back.  Basically it says that short-term, consumption is pretty inelastic, but long-term, it does change things.  So hopefully over the course of several years, people would adjust somewhat.

And yeah, I know that it's hard for lots of people to significantly change how much gas they use without buying a new car, changing jobs, moving, etc.

Well a lot of people who guzzle gas with supercars/trucks put it upon themselves and openly accept the cost. Most normal people are driving the sedans n shit which already get great milage which makes it more an issue of sprawl and travel alternatives that dont negatively impact lifestyle.

I CANT ride a bike to work, its impossible. Even a bus would impact my life way too much. I spend 2 hours getting to and from work a day, by bus id imagine that growing to 3-4 hours.

BlueFire Ethanol, Inc. is established to deploy the commercially ready, patented, and proven Arkenol Technology Process for the profitable conversion of cellulosic ("Green Waste") waste materials to ethanol, a viable alternative to gasoline. BlueFire's use of the Arkenol Process Technology positions it as the only cellulose-to-ethanol company worldwide with demonstrated production of ethanol from urban trash (post-sorted MSW), rice and wheat straws, wood waste and other agricultural residues. Our goal is to develop and operate high-value carbohydrate-based transportation fuel production facilities worldwide. These "biorefineries" will convert widely available, inexpensive, organic materials such as agricultural residues, high-content biomass crops, wood residues, and cellulose from MSW into ethanol. BlueFire intends to build a multinational company that leads the world in producing biobased transportation fuels. Its business will encompass development activities leading to the construction and long-term operation of production facilities while maintaining technological advantage and ownership of the process technology and all its improvements. Ethanol will be produced from biorefinery facilities opportunistically constructed on or near landfills, waste collection and waste separation sites. Each facility will deploy the proprietary technology, which uses all cellulosic waste materials traditionally disposed of in landfills as feedstock. www.BlueFireEthanol.com
