i can't get over this show's premise. i already fail to understand the popular fascination with serial killers, but a serial killer who serially kills other serial killers is much worse. if i give that a chance i may as well give a movie based on a line of toy robots that turn into toy cars a chance

Well, I put off watching the first season for quite some time because I figured it was just going to be Saw-inspired serial killer porn, or at best Silence of the Lambs-style serial killer porn, but the show, at least the first season, makes its high concept work. 

For one, the show is more about the characters than the high concept, and that serial killer that only kills criminals that fall through the cracks (not just other serial killers) is just one out of a pretty memorable cast. 

The show really surprised me, and it's probably my favorite new show of last year.  Yes, the concept is hokey and the show has some uneven moments, but it gets away with it in the end.  Ch-ch-check it out.  It's on itunes now.

Dexter was pretty awesome.  I'm thinking about waiting to see the series until later.  Last year when I went home for the holidays, I simply watch the entire series straight for about four or five days.  I really liked it in large chunks and I wonder if I'll be frustrated with its serialized format when I have to wait a week at a time.

Finally watched the first 2 episodes of S1 last night, after all the positive buzz the show has gotten. I liked them a lot, but the show doesnt have its hooks in me quite yet. Ill stick with it for a few more episodes before deciding to bail or stay on the train. I really like the Dexter character though. He reminds me of myself. Not the killing part, mind you, but the part about not really having much in the way of emotions, feelings, or compassion for people.

The concept is pretty stupid but the characters are so good that I really got drawn in. I'm sure a lot of people watch it because they identify with the Dexter character in the whole "putting on an impersonation of a normal person to fit in" thing he does. Also the secondary characters are great. I started out not really liking LaGuerta and then by the end of the season I was sad at what happened to her. The only thing I didn't really like from the first season was Rita's ex husband. That whole plotline was annoying as hell.

Also this show cements in my mind why a cop show without profanity just doesn't feel authentic.
