Catching up on XBLA
« on: July 18, 2007, 11:47:15 PM »
I just downloaded and played through all the XBLA trials that I hadn't played on another account. I only came up with the following titles worth buying:

Boom Boom Rocket

I was skeptical since it was just DDR with buttons, but it clicked and I liked it a lot. Though the song selection is small. Will probably pick it up down the road.

Carcassone

I played this and Catan, and the tutorial for Carcassone at least explained the game. Catan just did all these moves and was like, "See? This is how it works." and just left me bewildered, so I tossed that out straight away. Carcassone I understood pretty easy and quickly, I can see myself picking this up eventually.

Eets: Chowdown

Basically a repackaged "The Incredible Machine" so it started off on the right foot. 120 puzzles means lots of value for my 800pts, plus Marsho Madness. Will make a good partner for when the actual Incredible Machine gets released.

Prince of Persia

It's Prince of Persia repackaged, though the controls were a bit wonky since you can't use the D-Pad.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic! Plus achievements! Sonic XBLA > Sonic VC (is it even on VC?)

I played Bomberman, and it just didn't seem to click. Guess it's charm doesn't rub off on me like everyone else.

Pinball FX was a good candidate, but Pinball can get pretty boring, and it only seemed to have 3 tables which was really lame.

Missle Command was pretty wack. I didn't really like it.

I'll tell you though, the menus for Golden Axe and Sonic are really clean and well presented. Puts those poopy Konami games to shame.

I remember liking it when i tried it - just not enough to invest.

I am always looking for simple games like that for me and my girl to play - i showed her the demo and she said "no thanks" - that likely influenced my descision.
