I'm about to drop my controller

Lolz, no I haven't dropped it yet...

"The graphical power of the 360 and PS3 are essential to them attracting the Wii's user base. The fact is, gamers are attracted to beautiful looking games.
"When a game comes out - a game like a Halo or something, something they haven’t seen before - they'll drop everything and they’ll drop their Wii controllers when it does."

Dave Perry is still around? This guy is a fucking joke. Doesn't he have some more really awful movie games to make and overhype? What a joke, has this guy made a good game since Earthworm Jim?

And BTW, casuals don't really care about graphics... last gen, the ultimate casual game series, GTA, had some of the poorest graphics on the PS2 platform.

I think he just threw the name Halo out there as a generic name that people can identify with.

His overall point is that in a few years, the graphical disparity between these consoles is going to make it tough for the Wii to garner any major attention. I don't think major media outlets are going to cover the release of Wii Sports 2. But they definitely will make mention of Halo 3 or possibly MGS4 when it releases.

But Nintendo never really sought to be everyone's #1 console. They positioned themselves to be the #2 console of choice for the hardcore gamer and then pick up some new casuals/older ex-NES users. Which might turn out to be the recipie for success.

Graphics have never been what made Halo impressive tho. I mean visually the first title is solid, but the sequel is a technical mess.

I don't know why people can't see that Nintendo is placing itself almost completely out of line with the competition. No one is REALLY comepeting with Nintendo at what theyre doing because their hardware and software isn't even focused at gamers anymore. Its all about the non-gamers.

Good Point.

That's why I don't get all this "Wii is killing gaming" nonsense.  I own all three system and I'll admit to be fond of Nintendo's first party offerings, but we all knew from GDC 2006 that Nintendo was going in a different direction from Sony and Microsoft so in my mind, being a hardcore gamer for 20 years, the Wii was going to be secondary console for Nintendo games, until third parties proove that they could make decent games.  Zak and Wiki looks promising, though.  I've enjoyed Twilight Princess and SPM so far along with Wii Sports and VC, but I know that most of my gaming this gen will be on the HD systems and on the DS (Best value this gen so far, IMO).

Oh you.

And there is ALREADY a big difference in graphics that isn't going to change, both ends will improve over time.

Wii is still curbstomping, and that's nto gonna change anytime soon.

The Wii's graphical ability is already at the top end. It's improvement is going to be incremental. Also, factor in that third parties don't even seem to care about producing adequate graphics and are still being rewarded with decent sales .. and it's not going to get much better than it is. The PS3/360 will see significant improvements, akin to what we've seen in the past generation from the first year until the years 3/4.

The graphical disparity will loom even larger when the price points are within shouting distance of each other. The X360 priced in the 249-299 range will absolutely mop up the Wii priced at 149-199. I don't even see how it will be close.

The Wii's sales lead is more a reflection of it's price and novelty than it's games. Once the price and novelty is negated, it will be about the games and X360 already has it beat.

The PSP is within price range of the DS, why isn't is crushing it?

The Wii speaks to people - "non-gamers", as certain people dismiss them as - that wouldn't normally give two flying shits about them. That market is SO MUCH BIGGER than the uberleet hardcore enthusiast crowd.

Because the DS has superior games and the PSP was priced too high for much of it's existence.

Okay. Now, say you were a non-gamer: what console has the most titles that would interest you?

Wii has plenty of room to grow, hardly anyone bothered to push the GC, and when they did they got amazing results, the hardware itself is plenty powerful to push a great looking game @ 480p

Not all shovelware is selling and yes some of it selling because of the "newness" of the control and that will die down and devs will have to make an effort. EA so far has done a pretty good job, but everyone can do better. If games can hang around prime/galaxy levels the graphics won't be much of an issue, unless you are hardcore gamer.

Pricing would be a factor, if anyobne outside the US really gave a rat's ass about the 360, it'll be fight in the states, but in other countries not so much, esp not in Japan.
