XBOX: Morrowind - how has it aged for you?
« on: July 19, 2007, 03:27:10 PM »
Origonally I had Morrowind when it launched for the XBOX.

I thought the game was great, but eventually got bored of it and gave up because of the GTA syndome (games that are too open become boring as you wonder around aimlessly)

The story in Morrowind is HEAVIALLY tied to Oblivion - so since 1.) Morrowind just popped up on the BC list, and 2.) I can get the Game Of The Year edition new for $20 and 3.) I just got back into Oblivion I decided to pick it up and give it a go.

Holy hell the game looks sooo dated - it loooks worse than many PS2 games I play.

I am enjoying the story, but the gameplay and GFX feel very dated and havent aged well at all...

I chose the Kajit race - when I run down a road in 3rd person view, he looks like a sick catman running down the road 1/2 way squatting and preparing to take a shit. Thats one area elder scrolls needs work on in general - the 3rd person view animations...

The textures on the characters look so bad you shouldnt want to use 3rd person view at all if you can help it.

Remember how WOW this looked back when it launched for XBOX? Im amazed at how bad the game looks now....

On the X360, if you set the resolution to 480p before playing the game will display in widescreen - altho widescreen is not recommended as it makes all of the characters look like short/wide little shitcans....

I havent tested enough in 720/1080p mode yet to see if its better.

Anyone revisited this recently? Whatcha think?

I am going to play the game today as well.

But then again, I never liked MO or OB.  Morrowind has more quests than Oblivion, but most of them have a worst quality.  OB has less quests but they are more fleshed out (they ended being crap, just less crappy).

aged like bad cheese.  compared to oblivion, the framerate and quirky loading did it in for me.

The PC version is superior, but comparing the console version to Oblivion, Morrowind is still more fun.  Oblivion is bomba all around, except visuals.

i missed out on morrowind and because i like oblivion i'm curious about it.  i'm thinking about getting it just to check it out, but i'll need to get an asian version since i have a japanese system.

i'm also curious about elder scrolls 1 & 2 and what they were like.

i could probably just google them and see for myself....

I think you can download ES 1 and 2 somewhere.

The battle system is horrible.

HEY GUYS LET'S GIVE THIS GAME DICE ROLLS DESPITE BEING AN ACTION RPG.

Here is the typical Morrowind battle:

*user attacks pubic hair crab
*user misses!
*pubic hair crab attacks user
*user loses 10 hit points!
*user attacks pubic hair crab
*user misses!

And it makes no goddamn sense because EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. you could attack with amazing accuracy and STILL miss because the battle system is made out of G's shit left in a toilet for a whole week.

Whoever decided that dice rolls and an action rpg go well together should be fired.

i found the other elder scrolls games and they are OOOOOOOLD.  damn.

there are actually four of them.  i found them on the second post on this board:
http://www.able2know.com/forums/about8045.html

i also looked at morrowind and it doesn't seem that bad but i was only looking at screenshots.  i'd like to check it out sometime, but there are no asian versions for the xbox so i'd have to play it on pc.

I remember playing some game called Areena, and another one called Daggerfall (which I believe is a neighboring province to Morrowind)

But yea - they are pretty crusty - like playing a 1980's Lord British game.
